Pokemon The Pokemon video game franchise on smartphones and tablets?

I know it's probably old news but I've been hearing alot of bad stuff about Nintendo lately over the last 2 years up to now, how the Wii U supposedly will become the next Sega Dreamcast, rumors about Shigeru Miyamoto possibly retiring from Nintendo since he's getting pretty old, and rumors that the 3DS will become obsolete in less than a year no thanks to smartphone gaming, iPhone app technology, and iPad tablet gaming. But where does that put Pokemon as a video game franchise? Sure Generation VI in the franchise looks very promising but will it be the last Generation before Pokemon switches over to smartphones and tablets? Why not do it much sooner to keep up with the competition? Why spend money on a 3DS to play Pokemon especially competitively when you could just battle against your friends on your iPhone, iPad, Droid, etc. ya know what I mean? Nintendo would still make money off of the Pokemon games on those mobile devices somehow.

I think the biggest reason Nintendo has survived in the current handheld market lately is because of the success of the Pokemon franchise on the DS handhelds that prolonged Nintendo has a whole after the "Wii fad" died out a couple years ago due to the PlayStation Move and XBOX Kinect. With games on smartphones nowadays like Angry Birds that are as cheap to make as NES games from the 8-bit console era how would the Pokemon video game franchise adapt to that and for better or worse would it be backwards compatible with Pokemon DS Titles in terms of transferring stored data somehow without having another technology gap like what happened back in Generation III? Nintendo and Game Freak knows that If they get into that kind of scenario again that would kill off Pokemon for good. Really? All that work on a handheld gone to waste? Again? -___-

Since Nintendo and Game Freak doesn't officially sanction Pokemon VGC Tournaments for Pokemon games on Smartphones and Tablets (example: Pokemon Showdown on Smogon) that are of course mainstream mobile devices that are similiar to the DS handhelds except that you can access just about anything media-wise including texting and calling as well what would convince Nintendo to do otherwise? Having X & Y on the 3DS while it seems like a smart move is just another excuse for Nintendo to try to make money on a halfway failed handheld when they've also already failed on the Wii U with a terrible showing at E3 last year. Instead of a Pokemon MMO as well, Game Freak needs to step up on current modern day technologies and take advantage of smartphones and tablets. If they would do away with handhelds and consoles It would give Nintendo the advantage they need against Sony and Microsoft but also be on par with Apple. Sure some people won't like the change but video games are evolving much faster than we expected to.

I think that nintendo is kinda on it's last limbs to be surviving in the market, only allowing their games to very specific consoles allows more profit for them.
However what if they made a pokemon game for the iphone? Say $15-20 That could also be very profitable I would think. Also very possible. It seems teenagers are obsessed with games on their Idevices playing them 24/7 and playing multiplayer.

Nintendo's got enough money at this point that they can last a while even if 3DS and Wii U don't sell that well. But either way, I would not want to see Pokemon move to smartphones and tablets, I prefer a gaming machine that has actual buttons that aren't smaller than my fingers.

Nintendo already doesn’t want to put any of their franchises on any other companies’ devices. They are so closed minded about their games that they are losing out on so much money. So, why not petition them to do the LEAST amount of work and bring over the original Pokémon games with added online trading and battles. It honestly doesn’t matter what version of these games comes to the mobile arena, they would always be #1 on the most bought list. Pokémon is a force and having it on app stores would just reinforce that.

Atleast they've come out with two apps for i-devices.
What if they(Nintendo) made a gameboy emulator for IOS/android in which you can buy all the classic games you want? That'd be a slight improvement and may open doors for future installments for mobile devices

True but it would be much better If Nintendo had the official mainstream Pokemon video game series for Generation VI being X & Y to be exclusively played on smartphones and tablets instead of on the 3DS which some people label as a "gimmick". Sure the cel-shaded 3D graphics are nice and it's a vast improvement over previous Generations but why not have that on mobile devices like on the iPad, iPhone, Droid, or even on a Blackberry even? Nintendo just wants a good excuse for people to buy a 3DS when the handheld itself doesn't have very many good games that are exclusive to itself. It was a flop just like the Wii U and of course the Virtual Boy from 1995, remember how that console hurt people's eyes?

The Zelda remakes for OoT and soon to be re-released Wind Waker are nice on the 3DS, but you can only do so much with one remake of a video game franchise after another. It seems to be as though Nintendo of Japan acts like they only have Shigeru Miyamoto as their only game designer and producer when they can't think of anyone else to produce and design games for their company. Sure Pokemon is still going strong video game-wise (to some degree at least) but it's going through a transition where people want to exclusively play it like If they were playing an app game where they use the touch screen more instead of traditional buttons from current and past handhelds. As much as I love the simplicity of having buttons to play video games on, I wouldn't mind the step to exclusively touching your screen for commands which is what the DS attempted to do.

If it was up to me I think the official mainstream Pokemon video game franchise like Generation VI or VII should also be exclusively played on a personal computer where the save file of the game can be switched back and forth from the PC or laptop to the mobile device so that way you can play it on the go or on your own computer. The Pokemon Dream World was sort of a right step in that direction but Nintendo and Game Freak really could've done more to improve on that, the fact that Nintendo doesn't want people to abandon handhelds in favor of smartphones and tablets to play video games due to keeping with the tradition of having a handheld console which is transitioning towards mobile devices is very hypocritical on both Game Freak and Nintendo's part. They've been stuck in the past for nearly a decade now and don't want to adapt to the kind of changes we see in technology these days.

I would sooner see the series die than subject myself to playing it on a tablet or a smartphone. I have never enjoyed games on a non gaming-specific device, and I never will. If Gen VI will be the last, so be it. I've gotten my money's worth out of the series and then some. It's not like I'm about to get rid of my favorite games and systems because they're dying out.

This topic is a joke.

The 3DS is doing very well and the Wii U sells faster than the PS3 and the Xbox 360 did at launch. Nintendo has only "failed" at it's own, extremely high "standards" set by the Wii.

The VG franchise has lasted for how long? 15 years. They've obviously been doing something right if they've lasted this long and haven't changed to tablets and Smartphones. I'm against the idea of it on tablets and stuff, Wii U is successful afaik, and I feel like game play would be awkward on a tablet or Smartphone. The buttons would be too small

I honestly would really love to see some of the older generations on smartphones, tablets and such. I understand why they wouldn't want to make a new game for phones but I feel that a lot of people would be pretty happy (like me) about seeing older gens of Pokemon being available on those devices.

True however I've been hearing alot of people talk about wanting a mainstream Pokemon MMO instead of being stuck with Generational versions like what the video game series has been doing since Generation I. Nintendo and Game Freak says that they don't want to get rid of the experience of playing Pokemon on a handheld so why not play the officially sanctioned MMO on a mobile device like a tablet or smartphone which is almost the same? Sure it wouldn't have buttons like traditional video game handhelds do but it'd be a much better direction for Nintendo and Game Freak than what they're doing with Gen VI with
X & Y.

Pokemon X & Y is a great example of what could've been a PC exclusive MMO although Nintendo and Game Freak wouldn't be able to make money off of it unless they do DLC's and charge stuff for a dollar like what iTunes does or make it a subscription ordeal like with Netflix and Hulu Plus which would be better on their part. For all those Pokemon gamers who still want to use their Pokemon from the DS games on the MMO, Nintendo could invent a technology where you can transfer Pokemon from the DS straight to the Internet onto the Pokemon MMO and go from there, although that will probably never happen it'd be nice that all my hard work EV Training Pokemon to Lv. 100 would never go to waste as crazy as it sounds.

I really don't like smartphones or tablets, as it's impossible to get smartphone/tablet games on PC and usually on things like 3DS.
I also don't like them because they cost £150+ and you end up spending way more than that, because of all the ridiculous aps you can get.

I think Nintendo should put games on STEAM, as you can play STEAM games on Windows, Mac and Linux. That way it doesn't alienate people who refuse to buy certain forms of media/OS', like Smartphones do.
Another reason why I think Nintendo should move to PC gaming, is because pretty much everyone who's into Pokémon has a PC and that way you don't need to buy a Wii U, 3DS AND a Smartphone, just to have the latest games.

From what i read in late 2012,(Before the Wii-U came out)CEO.Satoru Iwata was talking about how the Wii franchise is at its end for gaming consoles.
Also Satoru Iwata has 2 things he does not want to see; App's and EA sports taking over nintendo.
like Apple and Amazon,Nintendo wants to monopolies the market. The Wii-U is just a stepping stone to a long awaited device that will put them at an edge to tablets/Smart phones.

As for EA-sports;Games like, Madden NFL,Battlefield and The Sims are part of the EA sports franchise.
Even though EA is still making games for the Wii-U,Nintendo does not want them to take over the gaming on there systems.

Satoru Iwata has also unannounced that Nintendo will no longer make consoles,Due to the mass market Drop in the use of gaming consoles. Microsoft's X-BOX has not yet confirmed it,but also stated that, due to a huge slump in console sells they also will stop right after the X-BOX 720 is released.

All i can say is in time, gaming consoles will be obsolete in the near future (2016-2017ish)

Everything that is in my post Is unofficial and could change.

You can play Pokemon games on your phones and tablets, download an emulator off the playstore then download the roms simple. They wouldn't make money, off something you can already do. I play Pokemon and Zelda on my phone whilst on the bus and in college.

Honestly, I wish Nintendo would release a Pokémon game for iPhone. It could just be as simple as LeafGreen or FireRed; it would still help me pass time. Also, Nintendo should release a Pokémon Battle Revolution 2 game for XBOX. I loved being able to connect our DSs to the console and watch our Pokémon battle on the enlarged screen. I don't care about the actual point of the BR game. I just love that one feature enough to buy the game, haha.

What? Didn't you already say something about XBox?
Nintendo won't make proper games for iPhone/Android/whatever, because they have their own consoles to put games on.
They also won't make games for XBox, because it's Microsoft and Nintendo isn't owned by them.

I did, I didn't think anyone saw my other post. And I know Microsoft owns XBOX.....it's called dreaming big haha.

Yeah, well you can play Pokémon games on your IPhone, Google GBA Emulator for IPhone. Yeah it's a massive dream, I don't even want a Pokémon game for Xbox or PlayStation I'm fine with Wii U and 3DS.
