the purpose of collecting TCG...

So...
I collect Pokémon cards. And I really like them. Pokémon is 1 of the 2 (maybe 3) most important things in my life.
The thing is... when I buy a booster box of a new set so I can get the majority of the cards of it, what I do is look at the cards for a bit, put them all in the binders, keep them in room where nobody goes almost all the time so they are safe and I never look at them again until I buy a new set or get 1 of the missing cards of that set.
And the feeling I get is that I don't give much importance to the cards or I buy them for nothing:(. Cause, why do I buy the cards if I don't use them for anything?
Like I said, I'm just a collector, not a player. I used to play at home with my sister or with myself and I used theme decks I bought and such just for fun but I already don't do it for a long time...
because I have this stupid major maniac problem that I need to feel that my cards are safe, and I want them to be so safe that I don't even touch them when they are in the binders... I even try to hold my breath when I'm looking at them so they don't get wet even though I know that they are protected in the binders!!! But since I want them to be safe, I don't use them for nothing cause I'm affraid to damage them, even the repeated cards that I could use to play for fun like I used to do...

Well, I would like to know from you (mainly collectors like me) if this is a normal thing (keeping the cards somewhere and don't use them frequently or never) in something that is essencially a collection.
I would like to know if you feel as me and what's the porpuse of collecting TCG?

well, i collect (sorta, just super-rares, X's, and legendaries i pull), but i play too... not sure if thats normal lol, trying not to breath, even on bindered cards seems a little over zealous, but i guess there are weirder things out there...

try going to a league to play, you can collect more cards, AND play some matches

but like you, i can NEVER just throw away a card, i've tried, even tho i have like 10 Magikarp, 10 Skorpi, and 10 Combee, i just can't tear them up or something

It sounds like you need to start playing at a league in addition. I know you said that you don't want to damage even the repeated cards, but it sounds like something you might need to just get past.

Oh, I forgot to tell that I live too far from a league so I can't go there and I'm not very interested on that either...

Potentially try Redshark. You wouldn't have to use real cards, but it would be like you were. With Hamachi you could play games against others and it would be like you were using cards without damaging them at all. You would also interact with others.

I am collector. My cards get organized and go into binders. Filled binders go into storage boxes. My doubles are for selling or trading.

Well, I know RedShark and I play with it sometimes.

But what I meant was that I don't use the cards for anything... I don't even see the cards often...

Beyond playing, there isn't really any purpose for the cards, so...

i wouldn't say that's completely true. Yeah it's a very big part of it but there's hundreds of people in it soley for collecting and trading. People collect them in order to have every card in their collection, trying to complete certain sets, others collect to eventually make some money off them.

Personally I do a bit of both. I make decks and play them, but I also collect cards because honestly that's the main reason I got into the Pokemon TCG ever since Base Set was out.

That's also what I love about this TCG, people get into it for various reasons which is really awesome.

I collected base set through Neo 4 when I was little. Nowadays, the card artwork is less impressive imo. Now I'm just collecting Rotoms and other cards that are especially cool, but not all of them are, unfortunately.

I collect, and all my sets are in hard cases in a box in a safe place next to the rest of my card collection. Haven't even looked at my older sets since I finished them. But I still play with my doubles and such.

You misunderstand my stance here. I'm a collector before a player, but Metalizard seems to be looking for a "use" for their cards, and beyond playing, there isn't really one.

You can always make profit off them. If your over 18, or have a legal guardian, you can start selling. I've heard people make decent money from them. Otherwise, they are playing cards, and they ddon't have much outside purpose.

I think the next best thing for a collector besides collecting is showing off their collection. However you can do that is up to you...

I know what you mean. I buy a couple packs of cards every week myself, and yet all I ever do with them is open the pack, put them in penny sleeves, and add them to my collection. I've been doing this for around 10 years now (I will be 20 in a few months). I think I just buy cards now mainly for nostalgia and I like collecting things (and Pokemon is top on my list). It's just a habit I won't let die I guess.

I'm a collector too, and I'm very cautious of my cards...I don't want people to touch them unless they're trading or buying one off me haha. I just recently started playing the TCG and i put my cards in sleeves. They're still in perfect condition, so i suggest you do that if you want to start playing. Just handle them carefully :p

yeah, i take care of my cards, i ONLY play in sleeves to keep mine mint, and my X's and such are in prefect (as far as i know) condition

Hey, it's okay if it gives you pleasure(that just sounded wrong...XD), I hardly look at my cards when I'm not playing or trading, but I have a great time just trying to complete my collection!

Hmm...well, recently, I've gotten into trying to sell some of them. But mostly I collect.

I really need to get my scanner to work again D:
