I want this gens rival to be female and obsessed with fashion. She will always annoy you about your choice of clothing (if we have customization).

I don't really care about the rival's personality, but I would like them to have better teams than they did in 5th gen, I mean Cheren and Bianca only had 4 Pokemon until you beat the game. And not only did Hugh only have 4 as well, but 3/4 of them were Pokemon that Cheren used. Come on, they should have a full team of 6 before you reach the League.
The Rivals should always be stronger than you, not weaker. Like Bolt the Cat said, the teams were weak and they really should be a bit stronger than you, not less.
Like the first Rival should already have 2 pokemon, the next time his has already evolved and has 4 pokemon total, etc. By the 5th or 6th gym, the rival should have a full team with pokemon that have great stats.

I gotta say I wouldn't mind a female rival, I feel like that would be a unique change, and I hope there is rival customization as well as your character, but I highly doubt that haha
I'd really like them to continue the ability to name your Rival. I really liked that in B/W2, as it brought back memories of Gens I and II.
And, it'll only be a matter of time before someone names their rival in X/Y something dirty, but I guess that's what made naming your Rival fun in the first place...

Unfortunately, they don't allow that anymore, I would believe. They have a filter on nicknames of pokemon, so they will most likely bring that into play with XY.
Dang, I was disapointed with B2 W2's treatment of Hugh. I mean, come on. He has 4 mediocore pokemon come the elite 4? And he doesnt catch any pokemon in Routes 19, 20, and Floccery Ranch? Come on. The rival needs to have a varity of strong pokemon. Maybe the rival could have a pusedo legend (Dragonite?)

They really phoned it in with Hugh's roster, they could've gotten a lot more creative with stuff like Roselia/Magmar/Marill, maybe Drifblim, and giving him that Flygon before the Elite 4 (like, if he caught it as a Vibrava by the time you fight him in Undella Town). Yeah, Hugh was kind of a disappointment as far as battles went. But I liked that he had a motivation outside of just being a roadblock for the player character - he was out to get Team Plasma and find that Purrloin, whether you were at his side or standing in his way, and that made him interesting in a way that no rival really has been since Silver.
I'd kind of like it if X and Y went back to a single-rival model, a la Gary Oak, but that's unlikely. At the very least I'd like to at least see both rivals' last battles be formidable. Bianca and Dawn/Lucas really dropped the ball there.

As long as the rival is like Gary or Silver, I'll be happy. Just as long as there's not another May xD

At any rate, if they're gonna give us two rivals, I don't think it's too much to ask for both to be at least kind of a challenge.
