I iked when the rival used to be an actual rival not a friend that battles you every now and then. He or she has to be at least a little evil to make it fun, in my opinion.

I really want to see someone with very similar characteristics to Paul from the D/P anime; he was what a rival should have really been. Cold, only wanting to have 'the best' Pokemon, and generally being a rude jerk.

The rivals from last gen were just lol. Cheren and Bianca battled you too many times, and Hugh I never actually saw as a rival.

Eh, I don't think you necessarily need the evilness - Barry wasn't at all evil, but I still had fun pummeling him in battle every time just because he was so freaking annoying.
