I have posted similar threads elsewhere, but I thought it was worth posting here too, different pool of people.
Just before HGSS came out, the 'general' feel towards Ruby/Sapphire and Gold/Silver shifted, from GS being the fan fave and RS being the black sheep, to the complete opposite.
Granted, I understand some of it, GS has a lot of flaws to do with the reliance on Kanto, and RS gave the basis for DP. But suddenly you can't say anything positive about GS in some places without being called a Nostalgia*Insert your insult of choice here*, from the music to the monsters to the NPCs, nothing. Say something negitive about RS, same thing.
As of late, it seems as if RG/BY have gotten in the same boat as GSC, rather obvious reasons, graphics, lack of story, lack of balance ect, for some reason the Gen 1 designs take a hit too.
Some have suggested this is just the process of the older fans moving away from the game and those who were new in Gen 3 taking their place, but I don't particularly believe that, as I know a good lot of people who started on every generation, and after asking some of the 'haters', they did start on the original generation or second.
Is Generation 3 the fad of the month until 'Magma Ruby and Aqua Sapphire' come?, are RGBY GSC genuinely bad games and those who loved them when they first played them deluded? or is it something else?
