After a bit of a hiatus again, we're back with more Theorymon threads. For those of you that are unfamiliar with these, we basically post ideas on improving the Pokemon to create it as a viable Pokemon in OU.

So, what are we talking about this week?

Beedrill
Type: Bug/Poison
Stats: 65 HP / 80 Attack / 40 Defense / 45 Sp. Attack / 80 Sp. Defense / 75 Speed
Abilities: Swarm / Sniper

Notable Moves
U-Turn
Toxic Spikes
Knock Off
Pursuit
X-Scissor
Endeavor
Baton Pass

The typical early game bug Pokemon are rarely competitively viable, if ever viable. As one of those Pokemon, Beedrill is the definition of mediocrity. With no stat over 80, and a base stat total that doesn't even reach 400. There's really nothing to say, this Pokemon is terrible. Toxic Spikes laying and absorption is the is the only reason to even consider Beedrill in RU.

Which is why we're here. Let's create a use for Beedrill, or see if we can make it better at its niche. Let's go.

I'm not very fond of this theorymon selection, just because radical changes are necessary to get Beedril to the point we want him. All of the past mons have had shining qualities with other qualities hindering them from being OU. Beedril sucks, and doesn't have much to build off of. This means that analyzed, small, detailed tweaks are going to be put under meaninglessness (for learning purposes) changes that give beedril viability.

It could function as a pseudo-ninjask with speed boost with BP/SD/Sub/Protect/XSciz/etc.
Not too much of an advantage over Ninjask other that the more modest SR weakness.

Not much else comes to mind without throwing large stat changes and changing his role completely.

Er... Huge Power? It gives Beedrill the ability to actually threaten stuff without being too ridiculously overpowered due to its small offensive movepool.

May as well give it Megahorn too for more happy fun times. :V

Well, two crucial moves you forgot to list are Swords Dance and Agility. In RU or NU, it could run a set like this:
Beedrill @ Black Sludge/Focus Sash
Swarm, 252 HP/ 252 Def
Impish (+Def, -SAtk)
Baton Pass
Swords Dance
Agility
U-Turn

With these EVs and items, Beedrill should be able to set up at least one stay to Baton Pass. If the opponent plays a counter, U-Turn away.

Also, Beedrill gets Acrobatics.

There is frankly no reason to use beedrill, and there probably never will be. The only thing it can do (Toxic Spikes) is done much better by Scolipede and even Eviolite Tentacool in the lower tiers. Baton Passing is done much better by Gligar (in RU), who has the same boosting moves yet much superior bulk. And attacking... base 80 Attack and base 75 Speed isn't going to be killing much. Not to mention losing half its health with Stealth Rock up. We won't be able to make Beedrill viable in any metagame without a complete face lift.
