This is a weekly discussion topic where we talk about ideas we have for certain Pokemon that could increase their competitive viability.


This week, we’ll be talking about Delphox in the OU metagame.
Unlike the other Gen 6 starters, Delphox never managed to find its niche in the OU metagame. Its Magician ability is too much situational and its typing gives you 5 weaknesses.
If only GF could give it a better ability or a better signature move..

What do you think Delphox could have in order to compete other Fire or Psychic-types (ahamm Victini ahamm) and distinguished itself from them while being more viable in the OU metagame?
It can be a type change, a move or ability. Pick one or two of these and explain what can make Delphox better.
You may not change its base stats or replace both types, and you may add only one move to Delphox.

Delphox : Fire/Psychic
New ability: Magic Guard
New move: Sticky Web

Why is it good?

Magic Guard prevents Delphox from being weak to SR. Something that Victini can't do. It's also a much better ability in general from Magician.
Not to mention the fact that it's making Delphox immune to Toxic. Also, no recoil Life Orb :]
Sticky Web puts Delphox right on the map as a great Sticky Web user with good speed and Special attack. While Galventuala is faster, Delphox has greater Special attack plus a greater bulk allowing it to use other items other than Focus Sash.

Logic:

Magic Guard is pretty logical and self explanatory. Delphox is a Psychic type and is designed as a Magician/witch.
Sticky Web- is pretty weird I admit, but I have always connected witches to spiders and you always see spider webs at the witch's house in most movies/stories.

New Ability: Regenerator
New move: Baton Pass

So uh, I honestly immediately thought of Magic Guard but scattered mind stole it lol. Regenerator is the next best thing, you would take damage still from Stealth Rock and Spikes, but at least you'd be able to heal some of that residual damage off. Baton Pass would work pretty well too with this move, giving it a viable option to play hit and run. Baton Pass also gives Delphox a way to escape without having to fear Pursuit, which is very prominent in the OU metagame. It would also be cool to Pass off Substitute or Calm Mind boosts to other teammates while healing yourself at the same time, allowing you to last very long into the match.

Logic:

Eh. Baton Pass at least seems logical to me. It's like magical, so pulling a fast one and passing off to another teammate kind of makes sense. It's like when magicians vanish and re-appear, or pull their sleight of hand stuff. Regenerator honestly is pretty illogical, and I don't have the excuse of "well these pokemon get it illogically too" this time, lol. I guess it would be like a magician making stuff re-appear, but that's all I've got.
