BW/BW2 Things you dislike about B/W

I've seen a lot of people here talk about what they like in B/W, but what about the things you hate about the games, what don't you like about B/W that dissapoints you or makes you mad? Or what do you like and favor about the games?

For me, it's the fact that Zorua and Zoroark are event only and you cannot obtain them at all in game, even from an egg given to you, despite not being legendaries at all, that's the thing I hate the most about B/W. I also dislike the Pokemon Musical, as it is nothing more than a Super Contest without the third part that plays out like the Contests in R/S/E.

What do you dislike about B/W?

NOTE: This is not a topic to hate on the new Pokemon, this is a topic to discuss what features in the game you dislike, not a "I hate Pokemon X because it looks stupid" thread, In other words, this is about the game in general, not what individual Pokemon you hate simply because of what it looks like....

I really dislike that Pokemon can't follow you anymore... I really liked that feature. :(
I also don't like that they took out the PokeWalker. Why would they use it for just two games? :/

I was excited about combination attacks, but then I found out it was just with the oaths. They should have gone further with it.

I wish they would include triple/rotation battles more. ah well. They're probably saving the good stuff for pokemon grey. Off topic, but will it be Pokemon Gray or Pokemon Gray (if that is the title of the third game)?

No rematches is pretty annoying. It is hard enough trying to get a pokemon to Lv100 post-Elite 4 even with rematches in.

There are very few complaints I actually have about this game, but I do have a few. I'm kind of saddened by the selection of TMs. We lost several useful TMs like Stealth Rock, Dark Pulse, Dragon Pulse, and Focus Punch in exchange for stuff like Sing Around and a few other kind of useless attacks. Also you can't find the really good items very easily (mostly in Battle Subway) and the lack of transferring old items makes it hard to get them. Speaking of Battle Subway I kind of dislike that you only get 10 BP for beating the Subway masters instead of 20, making BP collection more annoying.

Something I really don't like is how there's barely any Triple Battles. T_T When Double Battles was introduced in R/S/E, there were reasonable amounts of double battles. I heard that there's only 1 Triple Battle in B/W... But I've also heard that there's more Triple Battles in White, and more Rotation Battles in Black, so maybe that's why. =/

If you guys like Triples, play against real opponents: playing against NPCs is just a waste of your time. BW has a great matchmaking system for triples/rotations on wifi... just play that.

I have two primary gripes with the game. One, nothing really happened. I was trying to follow the story, but TBH... nothing happened. N went from prince to king, or something. There was that castle in the E4 area... but otherwise... it was another failed attempt at the writers trying to do their jobs. N was a terrible character that clearly had some severe form of Multiple Personality Disorder. He was all over the place as far as attitude went. Secondly, all of the features should have been in the original DS games. Random Matchmaking... no reason it shouldn't have been in DPPt. Battle Tower = Battle Subway. Musicals = better left out anyways. The new pokemon are the only reason you should buy this game. Once again, this is Nintendo milking their cash cow. They added ZERO new features to make the game exciting and innovative. They just added a buncha new pokemon, made a new battle style that could have been excluded, remapped the game, renamed a few areas, and took all the things they left out of the old games and dropped them in this one. There is no doubt in my mind that they will create a 3rd game that is actually somewhat innovative or had something we haven't seen before (If its another Lost World... >.<). GF really needs to start trying to care about the fans rather than just recycling what they've done in the past.

i kinda dislike the fact that they made a 5th gen of pokemon.but then again im getting used to them!

Sure Nintendo is milking the cow, but all of us here who continue to indulge in pokemon is the reason the cow is so damn milkable in the first place (think about it this way: they wouldn't keep making pokemon games if nobody liked them, or if a vast majority felt enough is enough)

@Zero
What are you even talking about. First of all the story truly can't be commented on until we get it in English as its message may be lost in fan translation. Second how exactly is this game not innovative, sure there should've been a random battle in DPPt, the Battle stuff has been present since Crystal and even then they expanded on it (I like there being a tycoon for Double and Multi), and if you don't like Musical you don't need to play it. Also 'no new features?' What about the C Gear, Triple Battles, Rotation Battles, the High Link, and the Dream World. You can't expect them to add some game breaking core changes, seriously what did you want to change so drastically.

Also as XieRH said of course they're milking the 'Cash cow' that's the sole point of squeals and revamps in general.

What?

And I gotta agree with Playerking here. A Fire/Fighting line for a starter was cool back in RSE. It was OK seeing it reused in DPPt. A third time is just stale.

Well, from what I can see (I haven't played the games yet), is that the Pokemon Musicals seem pretty ridiculous and pointless, no evolutions is kind of a disappointment, but the valid reason (Isshu being a far away region) I suppose nullifies that issue. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of post-E4 story, or even a very lengthy game in whole (that's just from what I can see, I may be or am probably wrong), but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

First of all, the story should be taken a look at from a Japanese standpoint because it was made in Japan. Even by their standards, it didn't make sense. The translation is going to be just as bad as always (we can assume). Thus, there is nothing to see there. As for the "innovation", the C gear is just a change of location in the game for most of what it already had, the battles are fine... but nothing worth doing, the High Link doesn't work the way it should, and the Dream World is not "fun"... it is just a Pokewalker except more tedious.

As for the cash cow thing, do you guys really believe that's how society works? They milk it in that they don't have to really put effort into it: as long as the tagline is there, people will buy it. Look at the past 3D sonic games (save for colors), just about every direct movie-to-game conversion, CIRCLES, Final Fantasy XI and XIV, and most classic atari games. None of them had much effort, but they sell just because of having the Title attached. Will GF ever try to put effort in their games? No... they don't need to.

@Zero
Wow you completely missed my point. The story IMO should not be judged until the proper translation comes out, because there is room for error in fan translations. (Also I haven't heard anything about Japanese players disliking the story.) I don't even know what you're complaining about with the C Gear. If the High Link doesn't work 'correctly' how 'should' it work correctly. Also from my experience with the Dream World it is quite enjoyable, different and a little tedious, but I find it quite fun, and whatever troubles I'm currently having is because I don't read Japanese.

Lastly the whole cash cow thing is a terrible argument and you don't really seem to understand why. GF doesn't completely revamp their games, because they don't want to alienate the fans. If they were truly trying to 'milk the cash cow.' Players and reviewers would be giving BW a much harder time, and I'm not seeing that.

As for your examples, I'm not into Sonic, but I'm sure it started off being about exploring new concepts and then degrading into garbage, movies just don't have the same vision (which is a saddening thing), FF XI and XIV are different beasts and their attempt at MMOs, and it's obvious they're actually trying too make it work. Classic Atari games were really praise worthy back in the day, and are now all about the nostalgia, and what in the blue blazes of the orange moon is CIRCLES, I've seen you mention it before, but I don't know what you're talking about.

^There has been only one review for BW, and that was by a completely biased source. Most of the Pokemon remakes as of late have been in the range of 70%. Finally, I refuse to call that "Pokemon" game where you draw circles and break your screen anything other than CIRCLES. If you recall, classic Atari games were being pumped out at such a fast rate that people in general got an aversion to the phrase "video games". About 90% of them barely worked, so people just stopped buying video games at the time. As for the translation, a "proper translation" will never come from the translation studios. I have read many professional Japanese translations of the dialog, and none of it makes much sense. I even went in WORD FOR WORD and translated it... it still didn't make the story any more logical. There was no real connection between anything. It felt somewhat disjointed as things would happen and you really didn't know what to take of them. Also, N clearly needed more of a motive, as he had "I'm just the badguy because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time" syndrome. He was a complete 2 dimensional character and had nothing really pushing him through the story. I'm not complaining about the C-Gear, you brought it up as an "innovation". I stated that it was in no way an innovation... just a relocation of options. Your point about not hearing Japanese players complain about the story is invalid. People do not complain about story in these types of games, they just mearly ignore them if they are bad. If you hear a Japanese player COMPLIMENTING the story, that would be disproof to my argument. As far as the High Link goes, I've found it works only half the time. It will barely connect, and, once it does, it is very difficult to really do anything on it. Finally, as far as the dream world goes, their ice cream game is completely broken. I've read the rules many times over in Japanese... and it still is just stupid. Why would they make us do that? The hide-and-seek game is just tedious and not worth anybody's time. The trampoline-style game is decent... but something I'd expect from a high school game designer: not game freak. Finally, the flying game is... only decent. By my count, that's half of the games that are tedious and dull. While it does open the room for DLC, we already had mystery gift on wifi... so that is kinda bleh. You cannot battle on Global Link and the "battle viewer" system is about as useful as the GTS website of 4th gen.

Now, after all my hating on the game, I will confess I will still buy the game in English. The ONLY reason for this is to be able to play competitive VGC (stupid nitros don't take Japanese games)

Finally after three posts I finally understand your point. First of all your talking about Pokemon Ranger. As for the games for the original Atari consoles, I am not very knowledgeable about them, but from what I understand the technology was very young at that time. (Also even now you still find games with similar problems) As for the story, again I will wait for the proper translation via the English games to pass judgment, and from what I have heard some people think that the story isn't that bad. The C Gear is innovative in the way that it allows connection anywhere instead of in Pokemon Centers only, may not be that large, but it's still a little innovative (especially the Video Caster function. As for the High Link I haven't had time to test it with friends so I can't really comment. Lastly the games for the Dream World, I kinda like them personally, they aren't anything to sell, but for little side games they aren't bad.

Economics/Business 101:

- There is nothing wrong/illegal/criminal with milking a cash cow. It's a logical, rational business decision to exploit a source of revenue. To a customer it may seem "wrong" if he dislikes the current state of the cash cow, but that is just a petty dislike. Customers are NOT forced to contribute to the cash cow, i.e. nobody's forcing you to buy the product. You can observe the flip side of things: If you happen to LIKE something, you probably wouldn't care if it was a cash cow being milked or whatever. A good example is coca cola. If you like the taste of coke, you wouldn't care that it has tasted the same as it did all these years without any "innovations" (no, vanilla coke or coca cola zero is not an innovation)

- There is nothing wrong/illegal/criminal with choosing not to innovate, or not meeting the expectations of one or two participants in the market, unless those participants are stakeholders and "have a say in the final say".

- If something sells well (regardless of why it sells well), that's mission accomplished from the seller's standpoint. A rational customer will not care with sales: He will only care about maximising his own personal utility (i.e. benefits or satisfaction). He will NOT stick around to complain about a product he dislikes, rather he will immediately ditch it in favour of something else that he likes more (we call it a substitute product in economics). This is because complaining does not serve any purpose besides an outlet to vent and rant.

As far as GameFreak is concerned, Gen V is business as usual. It's not their problem if a small minority of people don't like their business model.

The fact that you deem it worth it to get the game just for that sole reason despite all the things you dislike shows that the game can't be that bad. You quoted the example of Atari games and how people got so fed up they just plain stopped buying those games, but you're still buying the game here... which probably means you either think competitive VGC is so very important that it can actually compel you to buy a game you dislike (amazing huh), or maybe you just have a high tolerance threshold for bad quality and will still buy bad games if you can just find one reason/excuse why you need to get that game (despite it being bad in your opinion).

btw you might want to keep your negative emotions in check. This thread is definitely not intended to be a hate thread.
