True, but if they didn't make the decks, you wouldn't have to beware.

I disagree. There are still companies knocking off Pokemon cards, and there will always be scammers. Whether they make these decks or not, you should ALWAYS be a smart consumer.

You missed my point. I'm not saying you don't need to be careful at all, I'm saying you don't have to be careful about buying these cards. What you're talking about are in fact fraud, which you have a case against. eBay has good fraud/copyright rules. PUSA is making legal "fakes" that you have to be extra careful about because you can't do anything about it if you buy one.

In that picture, the gray border and no holo also give it away. I instantly knew that before even seeing the description.

Except the seller says he's using a stock image and not a scan of his own card.

Why didn't he use a stock photo of the real card then? >__> Like a scan from a site or something...Never buy something when the picture is obviously not real IMO (even if he would send the real card).

The seller's also violating eBay's terms of service, which is another reason you can demand a refund from Paypal.

It looks like he's using the non-holo picture that we often get as a teaser for a new set.

I dont think so. It may just be the WC one with the signature like photoshopped out or something. either way, its quite obviously fake.

I am not a fan of WC decks. My spend money on cards you'll never be able to use? They're a waste of time, and TPCI only sells them as a gimmick.

What really makes me mad is when new players at my league use WC cards mixed with regular cards, and they don't use sleeves. It is so cheating, it's not funny.

IMO, WC decks should stop being sold. They have absolutely no point. A TCG book, explaining in-depth rules about the game would be nice, but no one would read that. Especially not newer TCG'ers.

Let's just ban WC decks, okay?

They're OK, because they're collectibles. I don't like 'em because you can't use the card, and I would prefer the book, but even that isn't a good idea. I like how you mentioned how they would go in-depth in strategy, but other than that, I dunno.

It's a way to make money, and that's why they do it. Those little...it's not even super-rare 'cuz you can get 'em out of the WC deck for ten bucks!

OP:

There exists a third type of person who buys these:

Competitive players like me who either don't have the money to afford the deck at the moment, don't have enough copies of important cards at the moment, or want more copies of the cards to help other players get into the game.

Being able to play with something that won the highest level of competitive play when getting into the game is more desireable than playing with a starter deck.

It's much easier to get people into the game more permanently by showing them what is good, and allowing them to play with the deck, whilst walking them through the game mechanics, if need-be.

As for ebay scamming, if you go through pay-pal, you should be able to get your money refunded. if not, you're doing it wrong.

Either that, or you can just get a good color printer :p

But there are cases where the listing is a "trick" but not a "scam" in which case you can't get your money back. If you bought the card I pointed out in the opening post, I guarantee you won't get your money back.

I gotta disagree. As a buyer you can get your money back from PayPal for just about anything, even "Not the item I thought it was." Paypal is BRUTAL to sellers on eBay.

There aren't many things that PO me more in the pokemon franchise than world champion decks. Sure, they're a nice idea on paper, because people can see the deck that won, and learn from it. The problem is they don't sell well, and I'm convinced only two kinds of people buy them: 1) Kids and parents that don't know they aren't legal for play 2) People trying to scam by selling them online. This is the one that really pisses me off. This guy has a picture of the real one, and the title doesn't indicate its a worlds card, but there is a tiny "WC" in the description that is your only clue. Some unfortunate buyers don't know what that means, so they just wasted $60. I know most of you will say "well thats why I don't buy online" The problem is if you don't have a very active league nearby, thats pretty much the only way you get cards.

So here's my alternative suggestion. Make a world champion book. Like the platinum strategy guide. Perferably with a promo, so more people will buy it. IMO, this will be more educational than the worlds deck because the winner will also be able to explain the strategy and what all the techs are for. I could not, for the life of me, figure out why the G&G deck had that random jolteon * in there. Until someone explained it to me.
I don't agree with the selling of world champions decks either. If they are going to keep printing these theme decks, I think they should drive up the decks' prices, label the cards as promos, and make them playable in tornaments.

My 9 year old brother nealy got ripped off by this. He wanted a Lux gl x and saw one for 20 bucks on ebay. Lucky for him he showed me and i told him it was a WC or he would have bought it and been ripped off. I think thay should make a book, like some people have suggested.
