Standard Trevenant (Poltergeist)/Vileplume (Post GUR)

One of the cards that I think has a lot of potential from Guardians Rising is the new Trevenant. If you don't know already, its first attack for two colorless does 30 damage times the amount of revealed trainers (ALL trainers, not just items) in your opponent's hand. I think that Trevenant would do very well with vileplume, locking the items into your opponent's hand to thus increase the damage of Trevenant. Here's my rough list:

Pokemon (21)

4 Phantump GUR
4 Trevenant GUR
1 Trevenant Break BKP
2 Shaymin ROS
2 Tapu Lele GUR
3 Oddish AOR
3 Gloom AOR
2 Vileplume AOR

Items (15)

4 Ultra Ball SUMO
3 Level Ball AOR
1 Timer Ball SUMO
1 Revitalizer GEN
3 Float Stones BKT
4 Trainers' Mail ROS

Supporters (11)

4 Sycamore STS
3 N FTC
2 Lysandre AOR
1 Olympia GEN
1 Teammates PRC

Stadium (4)

4 Forest of Giant Plants AOR

Energy (8)

4 Double Colorless Energy
4 Psychic Energy

I would love suggestions for the deck!

Hi Dorsall,

Nice deck. Not sure if one Trevenant Break is worth the effort. I can see it being good against evolution decks that failed to evolve their Basic Pokémon before their items were locked out but I am not sure that you can obtain it with ease within the first three turns. Consider this modification:

- 1 Trevenant Break (see above)
+ 1 Lillie (Shaymin Ex turn one and use Tapu Lele GX on the same turn to obtain Lillie. That combo will help you tu run through the deck faster)

- 4 Psychic Energy
+ 4 Grass Energy

Hope this provides some initial assistance. I can see this deck doing well in the new meta.

I think Trev BREAK could help this as it basically makes a good Trev deck in Standard with a better attack although I would say for that maybe run a 4-3-3 line

The reason I decided with psychic energy was because Tapu Lele (Not necessary to the deck, but just in case) could utilize it and the Trevenant BREAK could use it to. I could never see myself using the second attack, since it is so horrible and I have to commit 3 energy to trevenant so I added in the psychic instead. I like the idea of a Lillie, and I think that Trevenant Break can stand to be withdrawn as well, but I'm still not sure what type of energy (besides DCE) could be used to the best results.

Just a quick one on Trevenant BREAK - not only does it give your Trevenant more HP and an alternate attack (assuming you are running Psychic Energy), it also gives you the chance to hit Psychic-weak Pokemon for Weakness (looking at Mega Mewtwo and the soon-to-be-popular Garbodor).

I'd certainly test with a single copy, as you've proposed, and see how you get on. I think it could be a neat tech. Furthermore, you can evolve straight into thanks to Grass-type Trevenant and Forest of Giant Plants.

This is my favorite combo from the new set, definitely. Okay, so I would cut the Trev BREAK for another Vileplume, drop the Timer Ball for a a Special Charge, and I think thats it. You're starting list was pretty good anyways. I think Trev BREAK is a decent tech-in, but I think having more consistent T1 lock is better in the long run, as T1 lock shuts down alot of decks (Trust me, I know. Mr.Plume has punished me for my Item-based Shaymin substitutes for a looooong time). Hope this helps! :)
