Hi! This is my first attempt at a competitive Ubers team. When I created this team, I centered myself around the concept of bringing out something unexpected that would throw off my opponent and put them off guard. My first guess was a Trick Room team, but I realized that they have weakness to a lot of Uber pokemon and dont have many advantages. My next guess was a straight up Baton Pass team, but those are taken down without Ingrain, which would be hard to fit in, even with ferrothorn or smeargle. Finally, I decided on a variant. I'd use Baton Pass to set up a trap, power up and sweep.
Overall, this team has done very well and has gotten me to a rating of 1187 at one point (I tested another team for a while and was brought down to 978). I believe this team has great potential that just needs to be unlocked. I digress, so on to my pokemon...
Aerodactyl
Obviously baton pass teams are destroyed by entry hazards and phazers, so aerodactyl is the perfect lead to use Taunt and lay down stealth rock. This adds to the effectiveness by preventing sturdy or focus sash later on.
Blaziken
Blaziken's Dream World ability makes it one of the best Baton Passers around. Since its neutral to stealth rock, it also can hold up on hazards. I set up this set similarly to ninjask: Protect + Substitute and Bulk Up when possible. I figured since substitutes will bring it down and it didnt really need any items, I might as well use a pinch berry before I BP to...
Musharna
Musharna is the only (good) pokemon that I found that can use Barrier and Baton Pass. The set is simple: barrier thrice and BP away (attacking when necessary). After +6 Speed Boost and the right EVs, musharna outspeeds everything that can hurt it w/o a choice scarf.
Durant
Here's where things get fun...Durant's Truant is perfect with Entrainment and after speed boost and barrier, he's also a hefty wall. The downside to this is that he takes 2 hits before Truant starts working, so the whole plan would be up in smoke.
Chandelure
Chandelure's Shadow Tag completes this set, trapping the Truanted opponent in. From here, I just Calm Mind and Protect until I'm +6 and sweep. With +6 in Speed, Def, Sp. Def, and Sp. Atk, (almost) nothing can break this behemoth.
Arceus - Fighting
This is mainly a filler that I'm thinking of replacing for an Amnesia baton passer (if there is one). This is my Dragon counter, using Ice Beam and countering the likes of Mew, Mewtwo, Latios(as), and Giratina with Shadow Force. It makes a surprisingly good sweeper, OHKOing several pokemon after stealth rock damage
So, without further ado, my team exposed...
Aerodactyl @ Focus Sash
Jolly Nature
Unnerve Ability
252 Atk/252 Speed/4 HP
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
This is Aerodactyl's most common set utilizing coverage, blockage, and entry hazards. A well-timed Taunt will prevent chaos for my team, especially with Toxic Spikes which would spell doom for Chandelure. Rock Slide and Earthquake provide nearly equal power with incredible coverage. Stealth Rock is for entry hazards that break focus sash and sturdy for when Chandelure sweeps. After taunting and Stealth Rocking, I'd switch to Blaziken (provided it is a good matchup) and start the Baton pass chain. Otherwise, I'd wait until Aerodactyl is ko'ed.
Aerodactyl's biggest threats lie in speed ties with other Aerodactyl or Jolteon as they both carry a sper effective attack that can OHKO if focus sash is broken.
Blaziken @ Apricot Berry
Careful Nature
Speed Boost Ability
248 HP/164 Sp. Def/96 Speed
- Protect
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Baton Pass
These EVs were specifically chosen after nearly an hour of calculation and decision. 248 HP lets me make 4 Substitutes and leave me with 2 HP, thus activating the pinch berry. 96 Speed lets me out-speed positive natured, 252 EV'd pokemon with a base speed stat of 100 (there's like 27 of them) after 1 Speed Boost, which would come automatically with protect. I chose to only out-speed those pokemon because the biggest threats lie below that range and I play it safe with my switch-ins. The rest lies in Sp. Def because Bulk Up boosts Defense.
The biggest threat to Blaziken is Taunt as it forces Struggle or switch out. Quick Claw opponents launching anything super effective is the only other real threat.
Musharna @ Sitrus Berry
Calm Nature
Synchronize Ability
232 HP/4 Def/252 Sp. Def/20 Speed
- Barrier
- Baton Pass
- Toxic
- Psychic
This EV set is chosen similarly to Blaziken's. 20 Speed EVs outspeeds anything with a base stat of 130 (pretty much anything that can hurt me except for ninjask) after +6 Speed Boost. EVs in Sp. Def are to boost the effect of the Apricot Berry since Barrier will double defense anyway. Plus, I am yet to be OHKOed with a physical super effective attack before being able to use Barrier, so it isn't an issue. The rest goes in HP for bulk. In case I'm taunted I kept Psychic in as a powerful STAB.
Musharna's biggest threat is most likely Scarfed Gengar as it can OHKO or 2HKO it even after a +6 Speed Boost. This is because Shadow Ball is a Sp. Ark and Musharna can only boost Defense.
Durant @ Occa Berry
Careful Nature
Truant Ability
4 HP/252 Def/252 Sp. Def
- Entrainment
- Baton Pass
- X-Scissor
- Iron Head
This set aims entirely on making Durant withstand as many hits as possible since it will need to in order to Baton Pass out alive. Occa Berry obviously is for saving his life against a fire attack and careful nature boosts Sp. Def since it hasn't received a stat boost yet. The key to this set is survival since this is the order of events:
ME | OPPONENT
Baton Pass in | Attack (probably not very effective)
Entrainment | Attack (probably super effective or neutral)
Loafing around | Attack (probably super effective or neutral)
Baton Pass out | Loafing Around
As shown above I usually get hit 3 times before Im clear. Durant's biggest threat lies in Fire and it can be the difference between a win or loss.
Chandelure @ Leftovers
Calm Nature
Shadow Tag Ability
252 HP/252 Def/4 Speed
- Protect
- Calm Mind
- Energy Ball
- Flamethrower
This is it, the big finale. A proper baton pass entry with the enemy loafing around lets me take my time switching between Protect and Calm Mind since they can only attack every other turn. Once Im +6, I've now boosted every stat that counts and can sweep like a champion. Leftovers fully heals entry hazard damage over the 12 turns of Calm mind & Protect as well as any damage I take from daring new switch-ins (a.k.a. priority moves, because nothing outspeeds me now)
At this point, if all goes well, Chandelure has no real weakness. Even a Super effective attack might put a 10-15% dent in Chandelure, being returned w/ a massive OHKO flamethrower or Energy Ball.
Arceus @ Fist Plate
Naive Nature
Multitype Ability
4 HP/124 Atk/124 Sp. Atk/252 Speed
- Extremespeed
- Judgement
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Force
This is my backup mixed sweeper in case Chandelure fails. Including priority and attacking with at least neutrality on every type, this set is designed to overcome the opponent's team with brute force. Since it's a mixed sweeper, I had to take a chunk out of its defenses in favor of Sp. Atk. I chose to lower Special Defense (Naive Nature) due to the prevalence of Outrage and the like in the Ubers metagame. Another option that I thought of after posting this was to switch to a physical sweeper and replacing Judgement and Ice Beam with Brick Break and Avalanche respectively or to a special sweeper with Psych Up and Shadow Ball/Ominous Wind. Psych Up on this set would be useful if I solely intended on Chandelure being the Baton Pass receiver and I can freeload off of any opposing Baton Passers or Shell Smashers.
The biggest flaw that I found is that it might need a Sp. Def booster before I get to Durant, but I'm just hoping for some general constructive criticism. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!!!
