News Tsareena-GX, Solgaleo, Lunala, Pikachu 'Pokemon Festa' Promos!

Tsareena looks funny! But it's good! Tsareena/Haunter/Balloons for Standard! Called it! As for expanded Tsareena/Amoongus/Balloons! Looks like a fun card. As for the others, not much to say.

MY EVALUATIONS
  • Lunala - Forget it. The ability is good, if it is a Basic but it's nut! The attack is an improved version of Psychic.
  • Solgaleo - Like Lunala, forget it. The attack is neutral enough against Koko and not to others. Nobody cares "No Weakness" stuff, unless someone concerns for it. I think these will be promos soon.
  • Tsareena GX - Tsareena GX Box anyone? Anyways, the attacks are good and "Queen of Distruption". Distrupts opponent's hand like Delinquent. Rolling Sabotage is a cool attack but the effect is Meh. So I give it, 2-3 Geodudes

Put me in the minority, but I am actually not that excited about the Tsareena GX's GX attack. Notice the energy cost. It is possible to get [G][G][C] on Tsareena T1 or T2, but ultimately it needs to be in a deck with Vileplume to really make much sense. Basically, the idea would be to get a Tsareena + Plume up T1 (similar to the goal with Deciduplume), but instead of techs doing damage, Tsareena is your tank and primary damage dealer. Basically, this looks like a very slow concept that is also extremely dependent on being able to stick a Haunter (which you won't want to use because FoGP is more important) or your opponent not being able to retreat out of a Glare which is far more likely. It looks clunky ATM. I took a look for other "opponent's active is now confused" pokemon abilities / trainers that perform the action and found none.

Long story short, without the ability to consistently apply confusion without also confusing Tsareena GX, I think this is a niche card that won't see much competitive play. That's a shame too because it would really only take one good confusion card for this to be a pretty scary card.

While this would only be in expanded, Inkay will confuse your opponent, and allow you to search for the evo while keeping FoGP.

Then you could use Malamar to keep up confusion or get back denial items like hammers or grunts.

Just a thought~

Is it just me, or does that Pikachu seems to have an Alolan Persian parent...

I am really liking that Tsareena-GX. I want to make a Tsareena deck really badly, so if I can get my hands on one I might run it in my deck, probably just a one-of, but discarding 4 cards is great, plus controlling what your opponent's active is, topping with confusion, is just great. It's attack is sort of lackluster in a sense, but if support can't get out of the active, like a Shaymin-EX or Garbodor (not the best examples, but I digress), you'll be taking some easy prize cards. Not to mention that it wont be too hard to get out since we have Forest of Giant Plants, although that is most likely rotating out in August/September. I really like how this looks for disruption decks, and I cannot wait for it to come out!

Yeah expanded is a different beast. I was only looking at standard. In expanded, it could at least be interesting. I wonder if it could keep up with the rapid pace of the format, but at least there are options.

I feel that Tsareena GX has so much potential for lockdown decks, making the game down to chance for the opponents draw...

Personally, it's not something I would run (competitively).
I think it's too inconsistent, especially against decks that can get set-up on turn1.

Still, interesting card~
