1. If you manage to somehow get your hands on a few packs (from the store, to make sure they aren't fake and not weighed), then trade it up. Trade, Trade, Trade, Trade, Trade. Every trade, make sure you get a little bit better deal than the other guy, and make him throw in something a little extra. Eventually, you will have an empire of cards.

2. Again, trade it up. Pick a single deck, get a simple decklist for it, then try to obtain those cards.

It really helps to have a specific goal when building a deck. Since you are just starting, pick a deck that won't take a big hit with rotation that is fairly inexpensive and work on obtaining cards just for that deck. In order to start building your collection you are going to need a little spending money. Buy packs from sets that have most of the cards you need and trade the rest.

Don't disobey your mother. If she won't let you buys packs, then there's a reason. If you have old cards though, then trade until you have the cards you want. If she won't let you do that, accept her judgement, and move on. Pokemon isn't more important than a good relationship with your Mom.

1. Explain that it is not childish to her, and it is actually very strategic.
2. Purchase a Drillpoint theme deck (if you can). It is great if you upgrade it.

I don't know, I beg to differ. :p

Trading is your way to go, if you can somehow get your hands ona couple cards and then trade up with all of them you will soon have a good collection.

the real question here is that "WHY" wont your mom let you get/buy trading cards? did you do something your not supposed to do? lol

No, she thinks its a waste of money.

P.S I don't have anyone to trade with (wtih exception with the awesome people of pokebeach) to trade with.

P.S.S I have "discovered" 369+ pokemon cards to trade with, so i'll have no problem making a deck :)

Edit: she's okay with buying packs, decks, etc. just not booster boxes!!!!

oh well if thats the case, no problem. Ive never bought a box before (aside from when my friend and I split one) and I consider myself pretty competitive.

Go on Pokemon.com and search your area. A lot of the time there's a league fairly close by and you never knew it. (This happened to me, I thought there were NO players in my area and found 3 leagues) Leagues are awesome places. :D If there isn't one nearby you could try to make one. Maybe encourage your mother by trying to get her to pass the professor test? Point out you could spend a lot of quality time together teaching her to play.
