Tyranitar's absence in the anime?

You are right, but technically, Tyranitar was only shown directly in two episodes)one was a poacher's so there is a difference) and one movie. But yes, Tyranitar is lucky enough to atleast be in the anime.
 
Last time he appeared was in pokemon 4 ever an before that was master quest during the larvatar episodes and I believe there were 5 and tyranitar only appeared once during that time.:)
