Fun Tyrantrum EX

Ok, so we have confirmed a new Tyrantrum EX promo box. But is it useful? It's ability seems like it could just make it into some dragon decks, but I wonder if there is enough dragon support to use it as a main attacker. Without a way to recycle double dragon energy it could be tricky. But I think the ability is awesome and 190 damage is pretty damned good. Only draw back is the energy discard is unusually steep for a non fire pokemon... Maybe with metal link and Hydreigon?

Tyrantrum-EX – Dragon – HP180
Basic Pokemon

Ability: Tyrant Fang
Damage from this Pokemon’s attacks isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokemon.

[F][M][M][C] Dragon Impact: 190 damage. Discard 3 Energy attached to this Pokemon.

When a Pokemon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Weakness: Fairy (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3

With Bronzong, it can work like Rayeel, requires Keldeo + Float stone. I think it can replace Dialga-Ex.

Possible options I can think of are: hydreigon EX, switch or escape rope. Any one of these could be used well.

Super scoop ups, or better AZ to switch as it kills off all attached cards like metal energy for instance. Switching isn't too much a problem now a days between scoop ups, Az, Switch, Escape rope, and for dragons Hydreigon EX as mentioned above. Switching isn't something I worry about for this deck. It's a real shame it isn't a full fighting type, as that would make it so very playable. In fact it would be quite OP if it were fighting. But I could see this with say Hawlucha for early beatdown and prize trade reasons. Bronzong for metal link.

Can anyone find a way to punch it's damage up to the magical 240? 210 with muscle band, I think silver bangle is rotating unless it came out in a recentish starter or trainer kit or something. Maybe play it with Bats but then you wouldn't have space for Bronzong.

I've been thinking over this again, and it's something that really annoys me about dragon types. If they had made this a normal fighting type then this would be an insanely good card capable of OHKOing any mega pokemon with just simple muscle band, strong energy combo and plenty of support to play it with. But they made it dragon, which means it's really lacking support cards. No dragon stadiums, weird energy mix types (Metal and fighting? Fairy and water? Electric and fire? *Sarcastic clapping*), no dragon supporters, very few good dragon support abilities. Hydriegon EX is alright, but still quite limited compared to say Darkrai EX.

The more I see my favourite pokemon get sub par dragon prints the less I like the dragon type.

Now if a dragon pokemon counted as say, any type of energy printed in one of it's attacks they would be really good. So Tyrantum would count as a fighting and steel pokemon. Especially if it didn't count for purposes of Weakness.

We are still yet to see a very competitive dragon deck. And I think that is because there is a fundamental flaw that they seem to design dragons as interesting tech to put into your fire and electric deck, or your water fairy deck. Which is cool for the kiddies who play non competitively. But a real beast tier 1 or tier 2 dragon deck would be really awesome. Maybe Giritina will change this, but I'm not so convinced about the G-hype.

Dragons aren't good because they require you to mix your energy and rely on special energy to be usable. This was the case even when Blend was a thing.

It has potential. But not much. With Bronzong and Muscle Band, you can at least hit 210 and eviscerate low-HP Megas. Missing out on that extra 10 damage is a real shame.

It could perform better in Expanded, where it gains Altaria to boost its damage to "acceptable" levels (as if 190 damage wasn't monstrous enough).

I've had decent results with my Hyrdreigon/Noivern/Hydreigon-EX deck same two energy requirements across the board with essentially double rainbow from DDE.

I was thinking about three possible deck ideas to run with this guy. One was based around trying to be able to consistently stream Tyrantrum EX's attack as effectively as possible, and the other two were based around trying to inflict enough damage to OHKO the opponent's megas. To consistently stream attacks, what about using Fairy Garden? It uses your stadium, but it means that you free up bench space. You'd need two Hydreigon EX's on your bench to retreat freely, and would need to have a stadium in play anyway. This way, you could have two or three Bronzong on the bench to effectively re-attach the energies you have to discard to attack. This leaves a spot for another Tyrantrum EX and maybe a Golbat or something so you can add more damage.
One of the other ideas was maybe using Sky Field to extend your Bench. Two or three Bronzong, two Hydreigon EX, a Tyrantrum EX and two Golbats. Of course this means you'd still have to either use an AZ or attack with a Golbat for a few turns to be able to OHKO everything. And you'd be sharing a stadium that two very strong decks use, and both Raichu and M Rayquaza start hitting faster and can stream attacks way easier than Tyrantrum EX.
Another idea could be using Faded Town, but then this painfully leaves you 10 damage short of OHKO'ing the high HP Megas.
Also what do you guys think of using either Aegislash EX or Bunnelby PRC as a partner? Aegislash would buy you a few turns or outright win you matches if the opponent doesn't use basic energy, and Bunnelby would be essential to getting back DDE's.
