Hey guys, new to the site... long time lurker, first time poster. :p Anyway, my friends and I used to play the TCG WAYYY back in the day, then got off of it for while during middle school... then got back INTO it in Highschool and then fell out of it once again. Now that we're all in College, we decided we're (once again) interested in playing. Needless to say, I won't be aiming to enter any tournaments.

I've never tried making a Haymaker deck; I always played decks with Stage 2 Evos and whatnot. But, coming back to the game after so many years, I thought I'd try something new and different.

This is my (hypothetical) deck setup:

Alright guys; unless anyone can make some serious arguments against this build... I think this may be the one I'm staying with. If anyone could give me a rating on it, I'd appreciate it.

Pokemon: 20
4x Sawk (Black&White)
4x Sableye (Special Forces)
3x Mewtwo (Legends Awakened)
1x Mewtwo LVL.X (Legends Awakened)
4x Bouffalant (Black-White, *Rare Version)
3x Uxie (Legends Awakened)
1x Uxie LVL.X (Legends Awakened)

Energy: 16
4x Fighting
4x Dark
4x Psychic
4x Double Colorless

Trainers: 24
2x Castaway
4x Energy Removal
2x Expert Belt
2x Gust of Wind
4x Pluspower
4x Potion
4x Roseanne’s Researcg
2x Snowpoint Temple

In a perfect scenario, I would start with a Sableye, Snowpoint Temple, Expert Belt, and a Darkness Energy in my first hand. That way I could grab first turn with Overeager, bump Sableye's HP to a clean 100 - attach one dark energy, and hit for 60 damage... which would pretty much clear any of my opponents Basic opposition, unless they were starting with a meatier fighter. If I also had some Pluspowers in my hand, it wouldn't hurt.

If I simply start with Sableye and nothing more, I can at least use his free "Impersonate" ability to pull a Castaway from my deck and setup the Snowpoint, Expert Belt, and D. Energy by my second turn.

But the deck is not dependent on Sableye. I could easily use Sawk, Uxie, or Mewtwo as strong starters. Sawk is a good suicide lead; decent health and damage, low energy requirements; very expendable. Uxie is more for harassment; I could slap an Expert Belt onto her and hit for 40 for one energy of any variety and then before they land the killing blow... retreat back into the deck with the Expert Belt, denying them the +2 prize draw. Mewtwo is there primarily to crush their Stage 1's and 2's with Psychic.... which really hurts with an Expert Belt attached. That's also why his LVL.X is there; to burn out any evolved threats.

Bouffalant is still a dependable revenge killer.

All the Trainers are built around either beefing up my Pokemon or controlling the Battlefield. Snowpoint, Expert Belt and Pluspowers make these guys powerhouse hitters... and Potions, Energy Removals and Gusts of Wind make sure the battle proceeds in a fashion I deem fit.

Castaway is to help me procure my Expert Belt + Snowpoint Combo, and Roseanne is primarily for Energies or to grab a Uxie or Mewtwo if I happen to have their LVL.X pop up in my hand.

All in all, the deck stresses versatility. No one Pokemon is the primary focus of this deck (well, maybe barring Sableye) and it can function adequately with a variety of starting hands. It also has great type coverage and excellent damage potential.

How did I do, Pokebeach? :3

RE: UNLIMITED FORMAT: "Haymaker" Deck - Sawk/Mewtwo/Scyther

In any unlimited format, donk or lock will rule. I'm not too well versed with the older cards but I don't think the deck will hold up well against the Sableyes and the Spiritombs of the Unlimited format.

RE: UNLIMITED FORMAT: "Haymaker" Deck - Sawk/Mewtwo/Scyther

Donk means ending the game on the first turn.

Seeing as you play haymaker, it would be good to add Sableye SF x4 to help with your starts. Going first is such a huge advantage in this game and Sableye guarantees it.

Lock is a type of deck that will cut out all your resources and make you play like a dead man while they pick off all your stuff.

RE: Unlimited Format "Haymaker" Deck - Sawk/Mewtwo/Scyther

Well, I'm no expert on Unlimited. Too many cards/combos for it to be fun. But I would do more like this:

Pokemon:
4 Sawk
4 Sableye SF
4 Bouffalant
4 Deoxys or this Mewtwo (better than your Mewtwo)
2 Uxie LA
1-1 of Aerodactyl (just incase they get any ideas)
1 Unown Q (for Free Retreat)

21 Pokemon

For Trainers/Supporters
4 Roseanne's Research
4 PlusPower
4 Energy Removal
3 Computer Search
3 Junk Arm

18 Trainers/Supporters

4 Double Collorless
4 Sp. Dark
4 Fighting
4 Psychic

16 Energy

5 extra spaces for whatever. Now, feel free to change this list, because I know next to nothing about Unlimited exept the most broken combos.

There are much stronger trainer cards you could be using, such as Proffesor Oak, Computer Search, Pokedrawer +, etc.

I would take out Sawk and add in Throh from black and white it is still a fighting type but can do 80 dmg.

I'm not overly competitive, but if you're going to run tiny amounts of all different kinds of energies I would personally shove some Lady Outings or Mr. Stone's Projects into that deck. With or without Fisherman you'll have lots of energies to spare. Scott might be a good choice in getting your Snowpoint Temple and Supporters out quickly, or perhaps Castaway if you want more Energys and your Expert Belts out instead of Temple. If you still need to get out Pokémon (even with Roseanne's Research) Celio's Network is a good choice. It's pretty much a Poké Ball without the coin flip, but I'm not sure if it can get your LVL. Xs out.
I also run a really dodgy Haymaker in the Pokemon TCG for Gameboy Color, so this probably doesn't count as good advice but Gust of Wind is useful to pick off the weaklings that the opp. tries to set up on the bench.
There are probably some better cards out there but my collection isn't that expansive and personally I think these are pretty good Trainer/Supporters, so I hope I've helped.
EDIT: Call me silly but I'm not sure what the rave about Junk Arm is when Good Rod can do pretty much the same thing if you flip a tails. If you flip a heads it's a Pokémon- which still seems pretty win as opposed to discarding two cards.

Because it goes on top of your deck, while with Junk Arm its right into your hand. And I forgot about Gust of Wind *facepalm*. I would add in 3 Gust of Wind and still fit in 2-3 Computer Search, because that is probably one of the best cards ever printed. Take out the Potions for 3 Computer search, and for 1 of something else. Possibly the 1 Throh.

snowpoint temple seems a little counter productive
sure it gives all your basics more hp

but in that "perfect scenario" you talked about, you would also be bumping up the defending pokemons hp by 20, very easily out of sableyes range of a ko.

also hers 4 more cards to consider
scoop up - uxies best friend
professor oak - best drawing trainer ever
item finder - dont use junk arm use this, it gets any trainer, supporter, or stadium out of your discard
computer search - a lot of people have suggested this and for a good reason, search your deck for any card

also why not special darks? that extra 10 damage could mean the difference between a win and a loss

Because I can't search for them with Roseanne's/Castaways... and adding in cards that are specifically designed just to find Special Darks seem counter-productive. The deck is primarily about speed; and waiting to find a card just to fish out another specific energy for my deck just doesn't seem worth it (like Computer Searches, for example).

And you're right, it does boost the enemy basic HP. But I mean, I don't HAVE to lay down the Snowpoint on the first turn if it won't K.O. The enemy. I can easily just use the Expert Belt to start the sweep... but the Snowpoint does help in the later game (and especially on other Pokemon) if my opponent is able to block a sweep on the first few turns.

But if you have any idea on how I could more easily work Special Darks or Computer Searches into my Deck, I'm open to suggestions. I just haven't seen any applicable lists or convincing enough arguments.
