David1 had a question about Unown G and it's use against Gardy's "Bring Down" -- I'm shocked... really!!! It prevents that?

OK - Burn... Paralyze... Poison... Asleep... those are a given.

What is the exhaustive list of "effects" that Unown G can prevent?

Unown G prevents anything (besides damage) from an opponent's attack that directly affects that Pokemon.

So Special Conditions are blocked.

Bring Down is blocked. It does not do damage, but creates an effect that KOs the Defending Pokemon.

Things that do not directly affect that Pokemon are not blocked. So things like Gallade's prize flipping are not prevented.

placing damage counters on your active pokemon is also prevented since that is considered an effect of an attack

such as Banette's Ghost Head attack

What about Gengars attackas verse a unown G attachment?

Gengar LV.43 – Psychic – HP110
Stage 2 – Evolves from Haunter

Poke-Power: Fainting Spell
Once during your opponents turn, if Gengar would be knocked out by Damage from an attack, you may flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is knocked out. (erratta- the attacking pokemon)

[P] Shadow Room: Place 3 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Pokemon. If that Pokemon has a Poke-Power, place an 6 damage counters on that pokemon instead.

[P][C] Poltergeist: Look at your opponent’s hand. This attack does 30 damage times the number of Trainer, Supporter, and Stadium cards in your opponent's hand.

To me it seems that Shadow Room would be stopped from doing anything. That Poltergiest would do damage becasue the effect of the attack isn't to the pokemon but to the opponents hand. And the Poke-Power could possibly fall under the Unown G protection because it is a result of an attack.

What does everyone think?

^No, the Poke-Power is by no means an effect of an attack. Unown G only blocks all textual additions to an attack that can not be expressed in simple damage numbers. If an effect of an attack deals additional damage, for instance if you have a tool attached (Pachi) then that effect goes through.

Note that when you say "all" effects, you're actually wrong in another sense. Unown G was issued an errata that the Pokemon with Unown G is affected by its allie's attacks. For example, if I use an attack that makes myself asleep (Wailord), Unown G will not prevent that effect, because it was my move.

this should almost be in an "important thread" this question and its counterparts gets asked alot. -_0

unown G prevents everything (ALMOST anything) except for the number next the attack which is the damage. but it doesn;t prevent things such as call for family ect. just stuff that hits you.

side question: is there any way to get rid of unonwn g other than ko the pokemon that it is attach to?; meaning can pachirisu get rid of it?

Anything that discards Tools that isn't an attack.

No, Pachirisu discarding tools is an effect of an attack.

No, nothing other than KOing the Pokemon Unown G is attached to can get rid of it. Pachirisus attack is an effect, thus it is blocked by Unown G, the same applies to Electivire LvX. You can however use your own attacks to discard Unown G. An example would be Mismagius SF.

No, that's incorrect. Windstorm can get rid of Unown G.

Let's be realistic here, we all know I was refering anything Modified legal.

How can you be sure that someone who doesn't know that Unown G stops Bring Down knows you only meant Modified-legal cards?

G only prevents your opponent's attack too, so if your attack does damage to yourself, tough luck. G only prevents effects on that poke, so you could use Azelf lv x's attack on a poke that didn't have G attached, doesn't matter if the active has it or not.

Can a [;ayer pickup a G and put it on as a tool if It is the active pokemon or does it need to retreat first?

"Once during your turn if Unown G is ON YOUR BENCH you may..." So theres your answer. It has to be on your bench to use it's Power to become a Tool. Otherwise you can't use the Power.
