Unown G~?

I have seen many people adding Unown G into their decks.
But I don't quite understand why people like adding Unown G into it.
Can anyone tell me why people like adding Unown G?
Is the poke-power 'Guard' really so useful?
Thanks

Right now there are a lot of popular cards that have killer effects. Machamp kills basics, and Gengar places damage counters. These two are two of the biggest pokemon in the game right now. Unown G however is an easy to retrieve pokemon that stops these attacks and keeps a few pokemon safe which could easily give you the game.

Unown G prevents added effects of attacks. Say you had a Shaymin in play and KOd the defending pokemon. Then your opponents sends out Machamp (sf) and uses take out. Take out does 40 damage. However, if the defending pokemon is a basic (which your shaymin is) the defending pokemon is defeated. Opponent uses take out. But you have Unown G on shaymin. That means you can ignore the attack text and just take the damage.

Actually, the effect (KO the defending Pokémon) replaces the damage when attacking a basic, so you don't take any damage at all from Take Out.

Unown G stops a lot of effects in the format from huge decks. Almost every deck that doesn't like Machamp or Gengar should carry one or two in their deck.

dmaster out.

Needed in any deck that plays Claydol or a main attacking Pokemon that has a power to deal with Gengar. Unown G is a pretty gimmicky way to stop Champ.

I understand how Unown G can stop Machamp, but what attacts or effects of Gengar will be stopped by Unown G?

Do you mean that even the pokemon(has Unown G attacted in it) that the oppenent is going to attack has a poke-power, it can only put 3 damage counters instead of putting 6 damage counters?
How about Poltergeist and Fainting Spell?

^it doesn't put any damage counters, unown G doesn't stop poltergeist as that's still just damage. unown G also doesn't stop fainting spell as that's a power.

Actually it will do nothing, since it's not DAMAGE. It's putting damage counters on, not damaging. It's confusing. ;D

Edit: Ninja'd!

Oh, so do you mean it will not do any harm or damage(putting damage counters) to my pokemon that has attacted Unown G if the oppenent uses shadow room?
it's really confusing

correct

think of it like this...if an attack that is being used doesn't specify any amount of damage but still places damage counters on a pokemon, it is a Counter Effect

being that Unown G stops all effects of an attack, except damage, the Counter "Effect" is thus stopped

Well to make it simple, if the card has text underneath the attack it's basically ignored. In other words, take Machamp (Stormfront). It's attack is printed with 40 damage correct? Well the text beneath it says if your opponent is basic this attack knocks them out instead. Note that is an EFFECT. But it doesn't say you may it says you must, but since it's an effect Unown G blocks it.

Do you mean that it won't do 40 damage even its printed with 40 damage because of Unown G blocking it?
It only do 40 damage when the defending pokemon is a stage 1 or 2 pokemon right?

Why don't you guys just say Unown G stops placing counters on a Pokemon and all effects of attacks that are not damage, but doesn't stop damage?

You'd make it a lot simpler for OP; you don't have to bombard him/her with personal experiences and paragraphs of text.
