Hey guys, I've put together a deck and wanted to know what improvements I can make as I'm sure there are alot!

3 x Bulbasaur
3 x Ivysaur
3 x Venusaur
4 x Shelmet
4 x Accelgor
2 x Caterpie
2 x Metapod

4 x Bill
2 x Cheren
4 x Potion
2 x Dual Ball
3 x Switch
1 x Energy Returner
1 x Rare Candy
2 x Prof Oak's New Theory

20 x Grass Energy

What do you think? I think the trainer cards need alot of work but not sure what I should be swapping out/in. Also I would really, really like to keep Venusaur in a capacity, he's always been my fave pokemon and I'm only playing friends.

Cheers guys :)

Ok so I'm assuming this deck is set in a HS-Onwards format, and I'm also assuming the Accelgor is DEX. As this is not a competitive deck I will not recommend changes that will cost a lot but here's what I would recommend:

Pokemon:15

3-1-3 Venesaur DEX line
4-4 Accelgor DEX line

Supporter:15

3 Cheren
3 Oak
3 Juniper
3 N
3 Skyla

Items: 16

3 Level Ball
3 Pokemon Reversal [if u are able to afford it]
3 Rare Candy
3 Switch
3 Ultra Ball

1 Computer Search [If u are able to afford it]

Energies:14

10 Grass
4 DCE

Would also recommend perhaps running a couple of different attacking options for example Mewtwo EX [not too expensive as its in a tin at the moment], other variations of this deck also run Gothitelle and Darkrai EX in order to Trainer Lock the opponent to avoid them Switching out and breaking the lock.

Thanks for that Matthew really appreciate it :D

First of all yes they are all DEX, second of all I just have three questions.

1. Is Metapod not useful to this deck if my opponent if fire orientated? I saw that as quite a shrewd move on my part :(

3. Would I swap out one of the trainer cards if I wanted to introduce Mewtwo EX for example? I feel I need another option Pokemon wise but this is probably my very old school view on things coming out.

2. There seem to be alot of trainer cards that discard a card before I can draw more, what's the reasoning behind this?

Once again thanks for looking at this for me, I'm only asking the questions as I'm trying to learn :D

To help...

1. Yes metapod might kinda help but Your main attacker is accelagor who goes to the deck after the attack! And you are paralyzingly the oponnet, you plan for them having zero attacks! So metapod lowers consistency.

3. I recommend introducing a Mewtwo and I would run the Pokemon like this

3-1-3 Vensaur
4-3 Accelagor
1 Mewtwo

You will be searching for accelagor with Vensaur so no need for 4.

2. Often trainer cards discard cards to get better cards. You then use the supporters N, juniper, and Professor oaks new theory to get a new hand often from 1-2 cards all the way to 6-7 cards! That is just the most consistent way to play, and win!

Hop I helped!

It certainly did tt thanks!

It just so happens that I managed to pull 5 EX's from 16 boosters yesterday including a Mewtwo EX which I was very pleased about!

So correct me if I'm wrong but my basic strategy is this - Get Venusaur out as quickly as possible using rare candies and Cheren so I can start using Floral Scent to fill out my bench with Accelgor and Mewtwo. Build the Accelgors up quickly and starting deck and covering with the Mewtwo on the bench just in case I'm not doing well or there is a big type mismatch(fire obviously).

At the moment my deck now looks like this.

3-1-3 Venusaur
4-3 Accelgor
Mewtwo EX

4 Rare Candy
3 Switch
1 Great Ball
2 Plus Power
1 Energy Retriever

4 Cheren
2 Cilan
2 Prof Oaks
1 Skyla

2 DCE
2 Psychic
16 Grass

Now I know that's only 55 cards but before I started added random stuff I wanted to ask, am I on the right track? The only real problem I feel I've got is a huge type disadvantage against fire but as always everyone's views are welcome :D

You need some Eviolites. Those will help you a lot.

I disagree with that. Eviolites help basics. Currently there is only one pokemon in this deck who plans to stay a basic!

And yes you got the deck stradegy down perfect!

From your new list here are some reccomended changes.

+2 DCE This is the most importanat part of the deck. This allows you to attack for one energy!
-2 Psychic In this deck you will never use psyburn! X-ball is a strong move! Just trust me!
-4 Grass A deck with 20 energies will not be consistent! At least add other trainers! You need no more than 16 I reccomend more like 14 though.
So energies look more like...

4 DCE (important for this deck)
12 Grass

I do not want to reccomend to much for a beginner but every deck needs Juniper and /or N to be consistent. More skyla I love this card! I would say no Cilan or just 1.

YES you are on the right track! Very good for a new trainer! This deck is slightly complicated and you have to think! Those pluspowers may not help alot since 10 more damage to your attacks 50 at a time is really no diference? To ko EXs you still have to do it 4 times? No pluspowers. Just think about what to add carefully and you will be in good shape! Hope I Helped!

Thanks Tyrant!

I'll look into sorting the trainers out thanks for the info.

I've just managed to get a Virizion with Sacred Sword, would it worth putting him in there or would that just serve to confuse my tactics?

I would not add the virizion for the reasons you just said. It is not what you are trying to accomplish.

For a Pokemon that might help you in this deck you might want to look at Mew EX as well.

Question: when you deck and cover who do you bring to the active position? Other decks use Gothitelle or Flygon for thier abilities to still affect the oppenet! Who does this deck normally bring up?

OK I'll scratch the Virizion.

I do have a Mew EX, how would it help?

To be honest I have had awful draws in the few games I've played, I've not been able to get a Venusaur quickly at all to start pulling out the Pokemon. Either I've been very unlucky or the balance of the deck is wrong. Twice I started with Mewtwo EX as my only one to pick!

On a side note I now have 4 DCE and I think I've got 14 grass in there at the moment.

First Mew EX basically can use the accelagors attack as a basic! Then you can search for him next turn and only ever use one accelagor! That is a diffent varient of Accelogor deck.

I have no idea how you started with mewtwo twice but he actually is a good starter for this deck just place a DCE and start X Balling!

When a person posts a decklist people can not tell you to change the heart of the deck. So i did not say that venasaur is inconsistent.

If I were to run a accelogor deck the pokemon list would be more like so...

3-3 Accelagor
3-1-3 Gothitelle
3 Mew EX
1 MewtwoEX

Its just that venasaur is very bulky and inconsistent! I prefer to lock the oppenet. You might give it a try instead if you have the cards.

I could probably get the cards needed pretty quick, I know my allegiance to Venusaur is screwing me up here.

Thanks for all the help Tyrant you've been really helpful and I really appreciate it. I'll play some more and see if it improves, if it doesn't maybe I'll start a second deck :)
