violent video games good or bad

As several have said before me, being able to play a violent video game depends on your level of maturity. I play Modern Warfare 2 on a weekly basis, and have I killed a taxi driver? Not that I know of. The only ones that can't handle violent video games are the ones that begin to forget that they are playing a freaking game. Also, video games aren't all bad, seeing as they can teach strategy and hand-eye coordination. (I almost never have to look at my controller when playing video games anymore, lol.)

I really think it does have to do with maturity and age.
But I hate it when people blame the games.
If parents hate M-rated games so much why do they go and buy them for their 10 year old children?
There is a reason we have rating for games and movies. Obviously if the game is rated M, it would have intense violence and blood.
If parents say, "Well I didn't know what the game is rated" well then they obviously didn't read the front of the box. If they buy a game at the store, usually the clerk/seller at the store should ask if you are sure you want to buy this game and would list some of the things listing in the rating.

Yeah, Randy is correct.

The games are rated for a reason. These ratings come from the science behind the human mind. In other words, a person who is 17 (M) will be able to handle a violent game better then a 12 year old.

As I've already stated, its not the games fault. Games are meant to be just that; a game. Not real.
If someone goes and kills someone cause they saw it on a game, its the parents fault for letting them play it.

The ratings are there for a reason.

Its up to the parents to explain to their children the difference between reality and video games. for god sakes, we have superman costumes for lil kids that have a warning claiming the suit will not make you fly. All it boils down to is parenting.

You know what that means right?

It means the younger the kids are, the more impressionable they are.
They will believe whatever they see or hear.

Solution?
Better parenting.
Parents.....Errr, Good parents can tell if their child is mature enough or not for any game or movie. While game ratins do stand for most, they dont work for everyone. Thats where the parents need to step in more.

The makers of Halo and CoD never intended for 10 year olds to play it. They know the game is violent. So its not their fault if a parent is irisponsable and lets their kid play it.

People who play the video game are influenced by what the character is doing, and they think that it might be cool, if they start doing what the character just did. They try to reenact the scene. They don't really think about what the consequences might be, so they don't care and they do it. If they see other people and they say to try it out just for fun and they do it, then they are just trying to be cool like the game character and they think they won't be hurt and will be part of the "group." Its really how the people are mature about the certain game. Also looking at the ratings if the game is safe or not.
