Volcanion ex, Iris, Wailord Illustration Rare, and More from “Battle Partners!”

Oh, look, a bunch of cool cards I won’t be able to get because everything’s already bought out.

My pessimism about the hobby right now aside, that Iris card looks quite strong. The discard is a significant benefit by itself, let alone with a complementary benefit like drawing until a certain number of cards. I could see it getting some play, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it were uncommon either

Worst part is that the Tera gimmick is already so lame on its own. I just don’t think tcpi did a good job on making Tera mons interesting at all unlike something like the ultra beasts who got to interact with the games mechanics in neat ways. And Tera support cards have been pretty interesting but there’s like 5 and two of them are basically made for terapagos
to be clear, in spite of everything, the tcg's version of terastalization is somehow still more interesting than the one in the actual video games. sometimes it really isn't on them to carry the franchise on their backs.

for one, yes it is, and secondly - not every illustration style is the same. I don't get this question. Pokémon also don't look as derpy as on the usgmen Mew.
I know all art is different he just looked perfectly smooth it looked odd

Is anyone else annoyed that they gave a non trainers pokemon an ar in the set all about trainers Pokémon?
Nope. Personally, I'm happy to see variety amongst the IR choices. I'm sure that plenty of the IR and SIR cards will feature Trainer's Pokemon, especially now with 6 SIR Pokemon which could mean all 4 Trainers + 2 others. Furthermore, we already have 3/12 Japanese IR cards with Trainer's Pokemon (Kilowattrel, Zorua, Reshiram), so as of now there are more Japanese Trainer's Pokemon IR cards than non-Trainer (Wailord, Lycanroc).

For me the optimal would be an IR for each Trainer (for now we have Iono and N represented), and an SIR for each trainer (with reps for now being Iono and Hop), and then the rest being random choices from the selection of non-Trainer's Pokemon in the set so that everyone gets some representation.

So Hop Box is definitely gonna be a thing, Corviknight just makes it want Reversal Energy.

That Magmortar though. With the Magcargo from Temporal Forces with the ability to put fire on any Pokemon your opponent switches in at any time, you basically create a Burn Block effect that you can take to your advantage, either by combo-ing it with Pecharunt & Brute Bonnet to stack Poison or to give as a free damage boosting option to certain mons. Only problem is the Magmar is 80 HP so you pretty much have to run Precious Trolley.

Getting two Magmortar down though, that adds up to 70 damage on checkup. Pecharunt + Perilous Jungle is 100. 170 damage every checkup, provided your opponent fails the burn flip each time. Maybe Dangerous Laser actually has a chance... lol.

Finally an illustration rare of Wailord, one of my faves
For me it's also the first card of the set that was revealed where I think "I really want to have that". But I would also prefer if the best cards are only revealed at the end. There will probably be a few more. A SIR with Iris and multiple of her Pokémon would be something I'd like.

I cannot believe how little they did with the Tera mechanic- this kinda proves to me it’s over for future sets/ next block - so many missed opportunities - they didn’t even print a card of every Tera hat - really a shame

Love what’s coming up here - all looking fun/cool - but can’t believe we are already done with the “true Scarlet and Violet” sets 😮‍💨
Vmax was still a thing in later swsh sets so I wouldn't be too sure

Hop's bag just keeps me thinking hell be the best archetype out of the current trainers, getting an ex and whatever else you need on T1 without needing multiple nest balls is pretty big.
It might be the best archetype but I feel like it isn’t going to be that good

All TPCi does is distribution of whatever the main guys in Japan put out. Whatever your grievances are lies with the developers of the VG and TCG.
Please give us a new Rain Dance mon so I can crush my foes with a giant whale 🐋!!!
Baxcalibur: Am I a joke to you?

Honestly, good riddance. Tera was awful all around, from the TCG to the VGC it was just an incredibly poorly implemented mechanic.
