We are starting a program for PokéBeach Strategist program for gamers! They will be called Experts in order to differentiate between the two. They will have orange usernames. To apply, make up your own application describing your qualifications to become an expert, and post it in this thread. You may include anything that you think may be necessary to demonstrate that you are fit to become an expert (examples: tournaments won, Shoddy ranking, past experience with the games, Pokémon community activity, etc). Spelling and grammar are a must to become an Expert. Only a few positions are open, so put forth your best effort in creating and submitting your application; keep in mind that there will most likely be many other people that will want to apply as well. Even if you are not accepted into the program, your application may be considered in the future if new positions are open.

Please note that anyone who is discovered to have lied in their application will be denied any chances of becoming an Expert. If an Expert is later found to have lied in their application, they will be removed immediately. Temporary bans may be made in the above case, or if anyone plagiarizes a Pokémon review, so be forewarned!

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Ok, I've been in battling for many years started battling seriously at the end of GSC, thus I have a very good knowledge of competitive battling through the years., knowledge is probably one of my better traits. I rarely battle in tournaments, so I can't hang my hat on tournament victories but recently I've been ranked in the top twenty on the Shoddy ladder multiple time and often at the same time until I let my aliases fall of the leader board from inactivity. I'm probably slight better at R/S/E then D/P, however, I hold my own against the best in this generation. Not sure what else to really type... I'm not very good at long post; hopefully our past battles are enough for you to know that I'm relatively talented and knowledgeable.

Must I? If so I would rather not type a rather long post, but if you want me to I shall.
Yes, you do. It's only fair to everyone else.

RE: Want to be an Expert?

I've worked slightly with PE2K on a Strategy Project, I've worked in Marriland's MCP, and I've played this game long enough to be able to create an effective moveset for any Pokémon by just looking at its movepool and stats. I'd love to join this. Irrelevantly, I've battled and beaten the top battlers at nearly every Pokémon Forum I've been to, including goofball, IPL, IggyBot, and Great Sage, three of which I know have held #1 spots on the Shoddy Ladder. In the Wi-Fi Metagame, which I much prefer, I've beaten nearly everyone I've had a chance to battle; no I am not saying I am undefeated, but if I lost you bet you I came back asking for a rematch. ;) Not too long ago I defeated the recent winner of Marriland's latest organized tournament; the Wobbuffet Tournament. I've battled slightly in the Uber Metagame as well, though it is most definitely not my forte. Not much else to say... :) Love this game and I'd love to be a part of this.

Heres my MCP Application for those who want something more proffessional... (Yes that means you KG! :p) :
Code:
How long you have you been battling? - I have been battling competitively since December of 2006. I had a bit of experience in NetBattle before the American release of D/P.

Why do you deserve the job? (Atleast 3 Paragraphs) -
To start off, I love the game. As I've stated, I've been playing for quite some time now. Through my time as a battler I've been paying close attention to the intricacies of the game, including both in battle and on paper. I feel that I have a lot of experience to contribute to this project, and I'd love to be a part of this convention. Not only do I have the experience of battling for quite some time now, but I have battled within every respective tier to further expand my knowledge. With this knowledge of the tiers, I feel I am able to help determine where every Pokémon belongs tierwise. Considering this is an analysis, I would think this is a very important skill to have.

Secondly, I would say I am a very cooperative person, but I'm not afraid to speak my mind. Every project needs someone to play devil's advocate, and I believe I can fit into that role without causing riots with every suggestion or criticism I give. I know when I should keep my mouth shut, and I know when to let people know what I think. As for my grammar, I would say it is impeccable. Even on small posts, I look every word over to make sure my message is clear. For something of this level of a complete analysis, I'd say it is very important to be able to spot grammatical errors, something I am very good at. Along with those qualities, I believe my hard work will be visible if I am selected. I will analyze every EV spread to see if there is a better spread to fit the metagame, and I will spend as much time as I can to better the program as a whole.

One word: helpfulness. Whether it is here, Smogon, or PE2K I do my best to rate every team and give feedback on how it can be better. Along with that, at Smogon I analyze many a moveset in the "Creative New EV Spreads/Moveset" thread to help those with their new movesets. Along with that, I have helped at least 18 friends in the last month build new teams, all of which have a 78% or higher winning percentage. Anything that is asked of me in the program will be received with 110% effort behind it.

A last reason I deserve the job is to make up for how much of a jerk I was to the head of this. I was having a rough day when I flamed your (l e a v e1) RMT thread and I'm also a friend of the original user of the team. While that doesn't justify my actions, I hope this apology will suffice: Sorry. Despite my actions, I feel I have so much to contribute to Marriland, and I would love to be a part of the MCP.

What seperates you from the rest? -
Aside from my experience in the fields of battling, EV Spreads (maximizing your defenses), and movesets, recently I've been studying the differences between the metagames of Shoddy and Wifi. With this knowledge I believe I can contribute to the analysis by explaining which moves/EV Spreads/natures would be more useful depending on the metagame. By breaking down what is encountered more often and what types of teams you are more likely to come across, I'm able to determine which Pokémon would be more effective in the two metagames. Often times people combine the two and look at them as one, but I am able to see the two metagames from a broader perspective.

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Well, I've been playing Pokemon ever since the R/B/Y era. I stopped in the G/S/C era, and came back for R/S/E.

I was in the Top 30 of uber battlers on Shoddy Battle. I don't do standard ladder battles a lot so I can't give you a ranking for that. Although my Wi-Fi is down, when it was working I managed to beat quite a few people (with a little hax of course). Since I'm in Canada, I've only been able to enter local tournaments. Although I won those, it wasn't really a victory since no one EV trained. I'm great with making EV spreads and creating move sets, usually not the standard ones though.

Although I'm not the best battler here, I think that I'm definitely one of the better ones, even if it is because I get that critical hit or freeze when I need it most.

:D

RE: Want to be an Expert?

This sounds fun, and interesting.

I have been playing Pokemon ever since the US release in 1998. When Red and Blue came out, that's when Pokemon sparked my interest in it.

I am not much of a Shoddy Battler, but then again I just started recently. Shoddy is fun, unless you come across a Wobbuffet, and that's bad news due to its moves.

I am probably one of the better people who play the Pokemon games on Pokebeach, but I don't know for sure. I am very competetive these days due to Kevin Garret, and Dmaster342. I wasn't much of a competetive before I came to Pokebeach because I lacked the knowlegde that I know today. Back in the past I was cocky, well... I am still today, but not as much though. Navel Rock helped me big time in my experience, and helped me win my state title of "Pokemon D&P DS Ohio State Champion".

I am the proud owner of the "AniMatt Wi-Fi League". Its a growing community as of now. I follow the Pokebeach rules, and the Navel Rock format for the rules. This includes the Pokemon, and items that are allowed to be used.

I am a good person, I don't ack stupid, or go against the rules. besides that I EV train, and I spread them in a way where my Pokemon, and their stats work out almost perfectly. My move sets are good as well, but they are a bit random at times for different Pokemon I face. But I lack the ability to IV breed correctly, so that might be my only downfall though.

RE: Want to be an Expert?

I've been playing Pokemon since the G/S/C games, and I started playing competitively in the R/S/E games on Netbattle and getting the hang of competitive battling mechanics. I was also intrigued in Double Battling, so subsequently, I joined Team Twilight, a PokeBeach clan for Double Battles. This has continued ever since Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl came out, but I've broadened my field of knowledge further than when I began. I am now further into Single Battling, and I play over Wi-Fi more than Shoddy. I use Shoddy for team building and for brainstorming, so my rank there is pretty low. I have been in some Tournaments, but sadly, I've won none. Despite these losses, I've had a few fair wins against people from PokeBeach and other forums, and my competitive battling knowledge can help anyone who will ask for it.

dmaster out.

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Not that I am applying, but maybe it is best for the future experts to know just what this program consists of KG. It is a tutoring program, of course, but how would the experts go about this, how would success be measured, and how much dedication is required from volunteers? I think you should make it clear what it is you require before asking for assistance. :p

RE: Want to be an Expert?

The main goal of this is the same as the strategist program - to write Pokemon reviews. They will be featured on PokeBeach when they are completed and will be similar to the reviews that were posted last year. The reviews will be comprehensive, so there will be a lot of thought poored into this. There is no set of requirements anyone has to meet. The biggest thing I'm looking for is that they know the metagame and excel at making move sets and EV spreads.

The members chosen for this will be tutors eventually, but let's stick to one project at a time. :p

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Alright, I am in no way applying for this whatsoever as I am just getting into how to play the game competitively. I would like to request Pika as an Expert. He is very helpful and polite and knows what he's talking about. Sorry if this is considered spam or off-topic. :(

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Hey

Ok so where to start... I have been playing Pokemon ever since the day that R/B came out. I was one of the kids that would fake sick just to get my 6 Pokemon to Lvl 100 ^^. I have been battling competitively since the days of R/S/E. I battled on Netbattle for a long time and learned lots of strategies and basic battling styles from there. Once D/P came out, I instantly began training Pokes that I thought would be good to use in the metagame. I started off with the basic "noob" team, consisting of; Blissey, Skarmory, Garchomp, Salamence, T-Tar, and Metagross. Over time I learned that battling isn't all about just using pure power and also using the best walls. I came to see that there were more than just the basic strategies in battling. I joined a clan at the Pe2k.com forums and learned more and more about the battling world. One of my friends from the forums introduced me to many of the top battlers out there today and I started to battle them in order to get better. About a month ago I made my first team without any help from sites(except for the occasional stat checking, move finding, and damage Calculating). I know about the metagame and how things work in different situations. My battling skills are getting better and better with each battle I have. I just recently got into Pokebeach so a lot of you might not know me at all but I have been battling for a long time so I'm not just some "noob" coming in here saying random stuff. So this is my application. Lets see what happens...

RE: Want to be an Expert?

I'm just curious, but.... This team of "experts"... They will just be writing articles and giving people strategies, movesets, etc.?

You say a Pokebeach Strategist program.... could you give a little more info on what they do, if they will just reside here at Pokebeach, and most imortantly, why we need them?

Couldn't you just, like, italicize certain people's names here on Pokebeach and tell people to PM them with questions or something? Or, is that along the lines of what you had in mind?

RE: Want to be an Expert?

The experts will be writing strategy reviews on Pokemon for the games. They will be done in a standard format like: Move Set/EV Spread/Explanation/Counters/Other Options/ect. Naturally, there will be more than one move set for each Pokemon. This will go along with other gaming features that will be added to PokeBeach. Would it make more sense if I called the reviews Pokemon of the Weeks or something else? ;f

RE: Want to be an Expert?

So this is basically like Eclipse's old reviewers, except only a select few can do them? Okay, yes.

Mmm... It's too bad, I have at least a substantial knowledge of what works, I just don't have any experience in using what works, or even seeing what works being used. Like someone said earlier, I can look at any Pokemon's stats and moves and come up with a working moveset (as well as that Pokemon can muster, anyways) for it.

But.... I have absolutely no time to devote to doing this, so I don't even want to get myself obligated.

Otherwise, though, it sounds fun. :]

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Cool, I'll sign up. Mine may seem incredibly similar to Pulse's, but our internet story is basically the same. ;f

Like Pulse, I have battled some of the best and most experienced battlers from every site, from Marriland to Smogon to Gamefaqs. I'm familiar with this sort of program, as I have applied for Marriland's MCP, and have got in, and made several successful reviews, which I can show you if you would like. Here's the application:

Me! said:
How long you have you been battling?- Technically, ever since Red and Blue came out back in the late '90s. However, I have been battling competitively since about August '07 or so. I do have some knowledge of ADV though, despite completely missing the generation on the subject of competitive battling.

Why do you deserve the job? (At least 3 Paragraphs)- I deserve this job because I am extremely knowledgeable about the subject of competitive battling in Pokemon. I have made plenty of teams before (will link).

A habit of mine is creating new sets, and I believe this would help me out. I am currently analyzing Latios and Latias with a good friend, and we are trying to determine whether or not they should be OU. I can uphold a conversation on the subject of competitive battling easily with my knowledge, and I wish to further improve my knowledge on the subject.

I have a good attitude, and I'm rarely pessimistic. I am obviously familiar with the current metagames, on Wifi and Shoddy battle. I have seen the metagame change from Heracross leads to Gyarados leads. I can work very efficiently as well.

Here is a link to an RMT of mine, my most recent one:

http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37969

What separates you from the rest?- I would say the main thing that separates me from the rest would be my devotion. I am very devoted to Pokemon, more than people think, although that's rather hard to put into words.

Another thing that separates me from the rest is that I am a very quick learner. Despite only getting into competitive battling for less than a year, I am already very good, and familiar with the intricate tactics of competitive battling.

Contact Information? (AIM, MSN, or Just Here)- Bentendo1313 on AIM, Bentendo13 on Smogon, or here. I would prefer contacting me on AIM.

Obviously a bit outdated, but you get the point, right? I understand many of the intricacies of Pokemon. To prove this, I have linked a recent team (in the quote). To show that I understand what this program is about, here's an excerpt of an analysis I made on Marriland:

Me... Again! said:
FlinchHaxKiss @ Leftovers
Calm : Serene Grace
252 HP , 252 SD , 6 SA
-Air Slash
-Roost / Wish
-Body Slam / Thunder Wave
-Nasty Plot / Flamethrower / Aura Sphere

Notes: Togekiss, when used effectively, can be a very annoying Pokemon. This set makes good use of its ability, stats, and movepool. Thunder Wave paralyzes the opponent, allowing it to effectively flinch the opponent’s Pokemon each turn with Air Slash, which turns into a 60% chance of flinching after Serene Grace is factored in. Body Slam is an alternative to Thunder Wave, with stuff like Electivire, Garchomp, and most recently Mamoswine running around. However, Body Slam will not be able to hit ghosts. Roost helps take away its flying weakness so electric moves are only hit for neutral damage. However, beware of slower fighting moves. Wish is an alternative that can be used for team support and can be used effectively with Air Slash, Wishing the first turn and Air Slashing the next to flinch so that the Wish will come true.

The last move can be your choice of Nasty Plot, Flamethrower, or Aura Sphere. Aura Sphere hits steels, but most steels have a sub-type that makes them only neutral to fighting, so Flamethrower can hit those harder. However, shall you choose to run Flamethrower, beware of Heatran. Nasty Plot can fix up its decent special attack with those EVs and that nature.

Well, that's all for now, ttfn and ta ta for now! (Tigger ftw hehe)

RE: Want to be an Expert?

I've been playing Pokemon games ever since the craze first started in the US when I was like.. eight or nine years old, I think. I had a bunch of level 100s in RBY, and I thought I was pretty hot stuff, since my Alakazam, Exeggutor, and Articuno were teh devastate. Anyway, I only ever got one Pokemon up all the way in my G/S games, Scizor, although I had higher leveled ones. I never played them much. R/S/E, I only played casually. I beat them and.. not much else. I bought Pearl Version the day it came out, but I got lazy and never actually completed the game until like.. June 2007. Soon after, I worked at "COLLECTING THEM ALL" when my friend hacked [and lied about hacking] a team of six very OU EV trained, perfect IV'd Pokemon. When I saw how badly I was ruined by them, I determined to get my own, so I started raising Pokemon for competitive play in early October. My first team was horrible. I never had any idea the threat lists of OU Pokemon, and I won like.. one match out of my first 15 on Wi-Fi. I gave up for a bit, a week or two, then I started raising Pokemon more, and I discovered Shoddy, which I played a lot for about two weeks, but rarely play outside of testing fun teams/Pokemon out nowadays, so my rating is pretty lolz. I use a lot of UU teams on there. Anyway, while I started making new Pokemon I was trying out with much success on Shoddy, I got an invitation to be a gym leader at the Regi League, because I know the original creator Soccerforward29 "IRL". We go to the same school and stuff. I had wanted to make a Hail team to make use of my idea for a Choice Scarfed Glaceon in Hail spamming Blizzard [write it down, kids. I still use it on my gym team, and it sweeps hard.] I got a Weavile and an Abomasnow from WastedSkyPirate to help me start off my team, and I made the rest of my Pokemon. [it was required that I make 5 of my ice type, and one non-type] When my team was complete, and I changed the Abomasnow around a bit, I started using it on Marriland, and I realized that I could take one of my Ice types out for a much better Pokemon, which is now allowed in my position on the RegiLeague. With this team, I started winning and winning and winning. Against good people, too. This was the start of my REAL competitive career. That Hail team is currently about 80-15, probably, including lost gym challenges.
At this point, I realized how much I've always liked UUs and BLs. They are prevalent in my teams and are visible in most of my WiFi videos on Youtube. They littered my first team, and I've always been about being a bit more creative with.. Everything I do. I honestly just get bored easily.
In all honesty, for this same reason, I started Pokesaving somewhat recently. I couldn't deal with IV breeding all the time when I wanted to try out 3 new Pokemon at a time. I believe I've taken a pretty good look at just about what ever Pokemon in the game can do, including most NUs and such. I'm a bit shaky in Ubers, but I hope to sometime make myself an Uber team and see how it does. I honestly just don't know the metagame that well.

Anyway, as of late, I've been battling somewhat casually, entering myself in a few events I see that look like fun. I'm ranked in the "Elite" tier of the only clan I'm in on Marriland, Colossus, and when I'm placed in a clan war, I usually try to build an actually good team to fight with, instead of my fun teams I use, and my serious teams usually net me wins, having lost only one battle in any clan war I've ever been a part of for Colossus, Registorm [where I am ranked RegiGod], or a few other clans I was briefly a member of. The loss I had was.. sort of hard on me. I had lost a match for the Marriland Elite 5 Death Tournament earlier in the day, and it made me doubt my Pokeskills for about a good week or two.

Anyway, when it really comes down to it, I think the reason I can excel at battling is my knowledge of generally "what each pokemon does", as well as some more unpredictable movesets I come up with, and my prediction, which many tell me is very good.

I realize that I made this REALLY long, and I probably rambled on with much more information than anyone cares to know, and I probably left stuff out that I meant to include, but I'm not going to go back and change it now. Sometimes I just feel like writing. I should sleep now, though. ;P

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Well, I first started playing when Red, Blue and Yellow came out in the UK. Then I played GSC, RSEFRLGCXD and then DP.

I got into competitive battling in April-May 2007, not long after I registered on Pokébeach forums.

I'm not the best (far away from that) but definitely not the worst.
Right now, I'm just testing a UU team on Shoddy which is being successful in UU, not losing once if memory serves. It's even found a bit of success in OU, winning like, half of the battles :)P)

However, I don't really have any accomplishments :p

So, yeah :/

I've never been to a local tournament before, and now moving to France, I don't think I ever will.

I can give EV spreads and movesets for a Pokémon. But when I try to make a "different" set, Smogon usually has it so I tend to -_- every once in a while ;p

That's basically me I guess :p

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Hi, I was referred by Amt to post here, so :)

I've been playing Pokemon since the RBY days, and I've gotten into the competitive circuit with the release of D/P. I've won many local pokemon tournaments, along with tournaments held on Gamesradar. I'm an active member on the Smogon Wi-Fi Community, as well as the Gamesradar Pokemon Boards. I'm a good Wi-Fi battler and an all around nice guy :)

RE: Want to be an Expert?

Well i'll sign up =]

i've been a pokemon fan almost my entire life.
I came in third place in the first official pokebeach tournament, and although i am certainly not the best pokemon battler around here, i gotta say i definitely know what i'm doing, and i'm one of the better battlers around here. Somewhere in bettween the top 100 and median 100 on the shoddy ladder, i think. I am confident i would do a good job at this
