Wanting to Know

I've been collecting the Trading Card Game for quite some time and currently have the Base, Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes, Gym Challenge, and Neo Genesis, completed!

I did not bother to collect Base 2 because it was really just Base and Jungle combined. Well After some time after the Neo Sets Legendary Collection came out and I decided to collect it because it had reprints from Base to Team Rocket with a few Promos thrown in and it changed some of the rarities too, such as Snorlax being a rare in the Jungle set, to common in the Legendary Collection set.

Now my question is, I barely have this set started and the only way to get cards is through Ebay or some other online source, flea markets, yards sales, etc; and I'm wondering if it's really worth collecting?! And feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

But I'll answer anyway.
Collecting, to me, doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Especially for the really old sets. Maybe in the future, they'll become extremely valuable, in which case, best of luck,
But my answer is going to be:
It isn't worth it unless it's cheap. :D

For some reason, the value of old cards depreciates gradually to where those legendary Charizards of old tymes past can now be bought for less than $5 unless they're 1st-edition. The newer cards are the most valuable ones to have.

Of course, whether it's worth collecting to you is your opinion, and I can't read minds so I don't know what your opinion would be. You can give it a shot by buying one booster pack from somewhere. I'd recommend Target, as they're easy to get to and sell them for less than at Toys R Us; some Wal•Marts don't sell them, so going to one may just become a waste of your time. If you like what you see, you can start collecting again.

Bear in mind, however, that Nintendo discourages pure collection, since nearly all of the rarest cards are only available from competitions and tournaments. I think Konami does this with Yu-Gi-Oh! too though.

Given that I can't read what the first respondent wrote (because they gain some kind of enjoyment out of shrinking it and coloring it with an annoying font to make it difficult on the eyes, and then hide it with justification changes just to make it more obnoxious) and the second doesn't sound to know what they're talking about, I'll go ahead and give it a go.

Base Set Charizards cost more than $5. The newest cards are by no means the most valuable, and regardless, it wasn't the question at hand. You will not find a Legendary Collection pack at Walmart or any such store. This is in the wrong forum. It should be under General TCG, but I'm sure a mod will do it. Congrats on having such a strong collection. You won't find these at flea markets. eBay or other similar sites are your only option. You can buy them one by one or pick up a booster box. It is a very large set that also offers every card as a reverse holo. Because there are no new cards in the set and it is monetarily impractical to do, I would say no, the set is not worth collecting, especially if you passed up Base 2 for that same reason (practically).

Sorry for posting this in the wrong section first off. I'm new to the forum so bare with me.

Secondly thank you Vilebaseball for you response and that's one of the reasons of giving it up, please I didn't really go all out in collecting it.

Currently I'm in the process of completing the rest of the Neo Sets, and the e-Reader cards. Once that's finished than I will be tackling all 16 sets of the EX series.

At one point I was collecting Pokemon cards pretty good, and than I stopped because once Nintendo took over sets where coming out left and right and I didn't have the finances I do now so I've been playing catch-up!

Thanks again!

Didn't say that Charizards weren't worth more than $5. I said I know of places where I can find them for less than that. Of course, since many places will let you sell them for more than $5, you can turn a profit like that. (In any case, it's certainly a far cry from the triple-digit values I used to see them at.) It was also ore of a response to Martainia than anything else--demand for their use in tournaments is what drives up the cost of a card more than anything else.

I think the rapid pace of them coming out with sets was almost certainly to catch up to the Japanese, and now the Japanese sets have been coming out faster. It's become a lot harder to collect Pokémon cards nowadays, especially if you're also going after peripheral sets (such as the POP sets, which are awarded after playing matches) and promo cards. Of course, if you're just going after the main series sets, it's not as hard as you might think it is--just more expensive, just like everything else.

Well I'm just going with the series sets. If I get a few promo cards or POP cards it's just an added bonus, but I'm not at all worried about those.

And I can remember when Charizard was worth like over 300 dollars!! But look at the times where living in too. That may also play a factor into it.

This should be enough to answer your question: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pokemon-Complete-Base-Master-Set-1st-Ed-Shadowless_W0QQitemZ250314082257QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 3.5G is ALOT.

And someone actually BUYS it for that price? Nuh-uh.
Pokemon isnt a game of high value. If you LIKE your collection, then go for it. If you plan on making money out of it...eh, I wouldn't bother.

That's because that seller is, well, an idiot. Check their "completed listings". Successful ones are non-existant.

If you decide to collect, you could always trade for the cards you need.

Well I decided not to collect the set, but I do have tons of doubles from sets past up to Platinum and would love to trade for cards I need. All my cards are mint to near mint condition!

Dude, I'm also trying to complete every set.
I only really have almost finished Base and Jungle, Team Rocket and Gym are decent, Neo is really underdone, I have about 7 cards from the E sets and very little from the Ex. I'm only tackling it slowly, when I get a better supply of cash and the means to shop online, I'll really put up an effort. I'm also trying to get all the Promo's as well...which is proving to be more and more difficult.

I hated Legendary Collection, such a pointless set to collectors, although I hear it did wonders for the card game at the time.

Well I don't know your address, but if you want I'd be willing to sell my doubles dirt cheap! Let me know
