Took Pokemon long enough to realize that psychic and flying are person types for lugia, so they chose to make lugia water in the TCG! Wait what? It's water in the cards but not in the game?! How does that work?! If you ask me I'd rather have a dragon lugia then a water one.

did they make torkoal ground or something? and I like water types, water/ dragon would be sweet though

yeah torkoal was "brown" I'm guessing it was rock.

Actually, I'd never noticed that the water typing was a "mistake" lol. It's just so logical that Lugia would be water type. Thanks for pointing that out, now I know better.
 
The POP 1 (I think) Torkoal was also made as fighting type Pokemon. So far as I remember Torkoal is only a fire type. It surprised me when Lugia in HGSS was revealed a water type...the only thing I can think of is maybe HGSS turned Lugia into a water type, although going by the serebii.net HGSS pokedex, it hasn't seemed to change.

Well, nothing we can really do about it.

I think they did that due to Ho-Oh's typing being fire. No other reason whatsoever.

Lugia's a BIRD. That's why it's flying type. Why should it be dragon type?

It's a water-type because being a water-type actually makes sense. It should've been water-type in the first place but some drunk in Game Freak screwed that up.

It lives in the water, mates in the water, dives under water, lives in an island of whirlpools, has powerful water moves... and is a Psychic-type, which it probably is only because of its telepathy in the movie. Joy. About time they get it right.

...actually it's just because Ho-oh is fire as already said, and fire and water-types are opposites, so they made two water-type Lugia. Blue cards look better with Lugia's body coloring anyways.

Actually most ice types are water types in the tcg.
The important part is that weakness is correct. (resistance if there is any)

Well there are 19 types in the games and TV shows and only 9 tcg types.....maybe that will be the next big twist. I could totally see dragon, rock, and ghost getting there on types in tcg seeing as how crowded collorless, psychic,and fighting types are in tcg. Also light type would seem like a natural fit. And you cant say they've never switched pokèmons types in between card gens. Before DPP all poison types where grass type cards and now their psychic.

I think the lugia card should be psychic but it looks cooler as a water..... i guess looks matter more than the truth.....XD

Well it's a LEGEND card. The card is based around Lugia's mythos and lore, so naturally it should be water. It doesn't have to match the in-game typing.

Well if you have noticed that in Pokemon The Movie 2000, Lugia is swimming in the ocean, I think that is where they got the idea from.

The promo Lugia thats going in the English poster pack is not a LEGEND and a water type as well.

Oh, and Ice Arceus; There are many other Pokémon that can swim in the ocean as well.
 
I always thought of Lugia as a Psycic/Water Pokemon, so this seemed normal to me.
I guess it isn't Water in the game though, just can learn water moves

I didn't just mean that it's a Pokemon Legend, the card is a part of the Legend block. That promo is associated with the Legend block, so a water typing still works. That and they're simply trying to keep it consistent with Lugia Legend.
