Ways to make testing more fun?

Hello Pokebeachers, I'd like to propose a question to the bright minds that lurk these forums and maybe spark a discussion.

What do you do to make playtesting new ideas for decks fun, or at least bearable? I know excess amounts of playtesting can be quite boring for people who can't sit down and do the same thing over and over again, so what do you do? I'm sure I'm not the only person questioning this, and sharing information is always fun (except decklists =P).

Go ahead, post.

I actually find what I enjoy most while testing is a change of pace. When I know I need to test a single deck extensively, I tend to break up the games that I do with a few other decks to make it seem less monotonous.

Play with an ideal hand. Like choose your starting hand. It gives you a rush as you can absolutely destroy, and nothing is more fun than winning. It also kinda lets you know what you can do to improve.

Blah: I guess I could say I do this, playing fun decks in the midst of serious testing...then start to get attached to the side decks I play. Something tells me this is a powerful method of monotony-breaking in testing I've yet to uncover.

MMAmonchan: I've tried this, except in reverse. I give myself the absolute worst starting hand and see how it goes from there; I was surprised in 4/5 times I was able to salvage a normal game out of them (and win most of them too). This obviously doesn't work on online simulators, but for IRL testing it is fun.

Also, to whoever changed the title of the thread, thank you. I realized it was just stupid.

Test with friends if you're not already doing so.

I know that when I used to do that a lot more than I do now, it was always a blast. You get the playing time in and can see general matchups and whatnot, while still being in the company of the people that you care about (don't lie to yourself either if you don't care about them if you know what I mean lol).

Testing a couple fun decks can also break up the monotony as well.

dmaster out.

I'd just like to point out that Pokémon is supposed to be a hobby, so it's supposed to be fun. It may not always be practical to skip out on testing, especially when you're preparing for a big tournament, but if you're no longer having fun playing the game, you might as well take a break. After all, the whole point of the game is to have fun, not to stress yourself out or bore yourself. When I played more, I would get a lot of testing games in, but I would never play more games than I wanted to.

The best way to make testing fun is by testing with cool people. If you are playing casually with your friends or with someone you met online, you can still have fun and get work done if you talk about something other than Pokemon.

Also, try trash talking. I freaking love trash talking.

Bet when playtesting, that way it'll be taken seriously. Something like, loser treats winner some Snickers or Starbucks. That makes it fun in the sense that casual trashtalking would be even more felt. XD

pick the deck you want.
and the top 5 other decks you expect to play against in the entire meta.
you and friend(s) all throw down on a booster box. and whoever gets the most wins
gets the most packs, divisible decided upon your choices. that's what makes it really fun.

for a lot of the:"cant sit still people"
there is nothing to be taken seriously at that very moment of play test.
they are usually the more simple minded people. the truth hurts, sorry if thats you.
you have to always please and occupy their minds with a simple and reachable goal within a short amount of time.
usually packs wins them over without hesitation.

and lastly, if you are ACTUALLY playtesting and wanting to get serious.
don't be that dbag and take mulligans. it isn't realistic.
don't flip coins in 2 our of 3s
go 2nd, you dont ever know how truly good your deck is until you are at a disadvantage
for a more serious note.
sometimes although not AS serious, i will play games missing 1-2 catchers.
it's harder and makes you think more.
i say that in this format, decks that play 4 catchers although it is almost a necessity are nearly auto pilot.
so it sharpens the mind when playing with only 1/2 your catchers
