I think we need to delete the "Introduce Yourself" forum. It's a spam zone, and quickly turns into two person conversations, which belong in PMs.

I get that we want to be nice and friendly and helpful to new members, but is a whole forum really necessary. Couldn't a Welcome thread be a better way of welcoming members, and preventing all the spam?
 
It matters because people would like to be welcomed and PM boxes shouldn't be filled with welcome it doesn't hurt anybody so keep it.
 
Despite the amount of "spam," the forum is necessary for new users to make themselves acquainted with. It also gives a good indication (first impression) about the new member.
 
Zyflair is right. Also, this way new users also get to know the forum 'controls' ( how to create trends and how to post ) and will receive a warm welcome.
I agree with you,though, on the fact that some people spam there unnecissarely.
 
If a member want to start off slowly, they wouldn't be able to as (if I recall correctly) you need at least 10 posts to be able to have a PM conversation.
 
Yeah, it doesn't increase post count, so it's not a big deal.

The Game Corner doesn't increase post count, but people made a big deal :/

The only problem is that everyone turns it into The Amazing Race. That's making the Intro Thread spamy. Maybe some new rules?

I don't like this idea! If there was a new member, they wouldn't know where to go.
 
Yeah, the sites that I joined that didn't have proper welcoming forums were pretty unfriendly and left me (and the few friends I managed to make on them) feeling very uncomfortable. So, I say keep it. One's post count doesn't go up because of it, so there's no point of eliminating it (even it does get a lot of spam)...
 
Completely doing a 360 on my past view point; I seriously have a problem with everyone trying to beat Playerking. They're not going to get really anything special by beating him and it's starting to get on my nerves.

I still don't think it's worthy of scrapping the Welcome Forum altogether.
 
I think the individual threads are more personal, and make the new member feel more appreciated. I haven't seem much real spam, and it's a nice way to be able to greet members with a little more care/respect.

And this isn't a bad idea. N00vs like I was wouldn't know where to go.
 
Yeah, you're right JC. But, it's the same usual suspects posting in every thread, trying to beat the same person (Playerking).

There has to be some way we can still be nice to the new members without having each thread be like a battle for 'Pole Position'.
 
Hmmm. Why anyone wants to beat Playerking I don't know. It doesn't matter. So what if he sounds fartoo much time on that forum? Other people can too, but they don't need to say Beat Playerking after everyone.

I'm looking at you and you, Alvin and PokabuLugia.

Both of whim happen to be my bros. Oh dear.
 
@ SDB: I really like what Playerking is doing, the more greetings the better. I think people are obviously taking the "competition" way too seriously, but the whole point of the forum is to introduce yourself, and to get welcomes and feedback. As long as that happens in a uniform manner, the need is met.
 
Maybe just a cap of 1 post per member per welcome thread to keep down spam?
 
Player King obvs likes greeting new membs, whatever. Maybe everyone should just let hi do it and don't race. He's good at what he does.
 
I'm here thank you guys i do it to make people feel welcome and i don't hate anyone here i don't see why they try and beat me it's not a game so i say keep it. :)
