What are the new Top Tier decks that are going to be coming out?

I was addressing how Rocky Helmet can be played without under Item Lock If you Catcher a Pokemon that has that Pokemon Tool attached to it and gets donked in the process.

The Gothitelle player would never Catcher up a Pokemon with Rocky Helmet where the opponent could just return the ko. That would be stupid.

^Cobalion, Kyurem, and Electrode, currently killing the Japanese metagame^

What do you guys think about this?

No way with TyRam is the format. Kyruem isn't a good counter either.

I am really liking the CaKE deck!!!!! I just think it needs a better counter than Kyrum against decks like Tyram. What do you guys think?

Yea, it seems to need a better counter. It seems fun though. Maybe it works. Trainer locks might get better with Rocky helmet/ Eviolite/ Super Rod in a lot of decks, especially those who replace FSL w/ Super Rod.

*CoughcoughLostgar.

You can't ever base a decks preference in the USA by how it is doing in Japan. The game is much different there.

But who plays LostGar anymore? How do you know Japan still plays LostGar? You don't do you?

That isn't what I was saying, you entirely missed the point of my post. I was saying that you can't look at the performance of a deck in Japan and assume that it will do well in the rest of the world. I used LostGar as an example, because it was hyped to the point where everyone assumed it would be BDIF when it came out, even though few people had tested it. Those who did realized it was bad. When it finally hit the Americas, it was 40$ on ebay, despite the fact it was a bad card. Japan plays in a different format than us, you can't judge what our future meta will look like based on what is going on over there.

^This.

Honestly, LostGar is the best example of how Japan's metagame simply does not reflect what happens in America or anywhere in the world, for that matter. Cobalion/Kyurem/Electrode hasn't been hyped the least bit here, I doubt it'll become popular even if it does do well in the few showings it has simply because it's a different meta.

I think its fair to say that Cobalion probably won't see any play while Tyram is still a contender (and being most popular deck in format right now would make it a huge contender), and Kyurem just doesn't offer the support that you need against Reshiram, if you look at the list on the CaKE article listed previously in this thread you'll notice 4 water energy, so only 2 of 3 Kyurem listed can attack across the entire field and relying on outrage means your opponent can control your damage output.

Additionally the list runs 4 juniper, 2 sage and Electrode for Energymite, this right here is just asking to mill your deck into next week, you opponent won't have to take any prizes they can just watch you deck yourself out

The main reason why CaKE is a popular deck in Japan is because of the Hail Blizzard vs. Psycho Drive and Zekrom/Reshiram ex card sets in their metagame. The deck is obviously built to counter against Mewtwo ex in mind given that Cobalion's first attack
Energy Press comes in handy against it especially the -20 {P} Resistance. Iron Breaker is the icing on the cake (so to speak) with Cobalion after you charge it up with Electrode Prime so that you can literally stall until they Catcher something on your bench.

Kyurem is supposed to help cover for Cobalion in the TyRam matchup but like RattataJoey explained earlier, relying solely on Outrage is going to allow your Opponent to control your damage output by not attacking or just Catcher something on your bench. Don't get me started with Ancient Lock, I've seen that decklist on the Gym and it seems interesting but If you want pure denial with it I would run Vileplume with it along with Jirachi for Time Hollow, Kyurem just cause, and Research Record with Junk Arm.

Accelgor and Escavalier are in the deck mainly cause they get around Archeops' Ability where they can still evolve from the deck not from the hand. Seems like an interesting deck to play, not sure If Accelgor and Escavalier are solid Stage 1 attackers for the deck though, might have to throw in Fliptini in there.

How do you get out Vileplume and Archeops? they seem mutually exclusive to me, unless you want to give your opponent chance to setup first?

You cannot guarantee to get Archeops first, unless you hold off on Vileplume until you get everything primed, which will cost you more games than it will win.

Megazone is going to be really good I think. When combining Magnezone's high damage cap to take down EXs with Yanmega's early attack and N to shut down opponent's card draw late game, watch out for this one.

Well Magnezone does make N a terrible Supporter because you'll just draw back up to 6 with Zone If you're already ahead on prizes. Any other matchup that doesn't involve Magnezone, N is a godsend mid to late game. It's practically a staple in decks like BlameTruth, Gothitelle/Reuniclus, and Vileplume variants but it's still competing against Twins which is almost fundamentally better.

I could see decks like Goth and The Truth using N late game after Twins setup, but I think Twins is the better play in the early/mid game overall, because the decks ultimately rely on Twins for setup.

I still see Cobalion/Kyurem/Electrode being the new dark horse of the format, it's presence requires most decks nowadays to tech in 1 or 2 Reshiram. Yeah Donphan is still popular but it's been kinda seeing less and less play lately, might still be played to counter Hydreigon If it ever gets big. It's got potential at least.

You know, in that sense, Magneboar might be an interesting dark horse as well. Reshiram EX gives Magneboar a strong attacker that doesn't cost it energy, so recovery cards would be minimal, meanwhile, you have Magnetic Draw and Twins, you have the Cobalion counter, and you have the means to bring down EXs with ease. My friend and I were talking about it, and Reshiram EX could be a big help in that deck.
