Hi (sorry if this is in the wrong place), I am a senior who has gotten into pokemon competitively but my parents disapprove. They have let me go to about 5 tournaments out of 100 I have told them about. The first and only league I went to, they only let me stay about 2 minutes because they thought it was wierd the 15-16 year old play. I have a very limited budget, I went to a city, and got top cut with jumpluff, vileplume a few months a go. My parents know nothing about pokemon except Pikachu and supposedly togepee and togepoo
Anyway, what can I say,( or what would you say) to let my parents know that I want to play pokemon competitively?

This actually works.

Tell you parents that going to different places for States/Cities is an educational experience.

No joke, it actually does. This is how I'm able to go to Regionals.

This idea really works?! I'll have to try it.
BTW, is there normally some carpool or something to big events like states and regionals usually?

This depends on where you live. I live in NYC, and usually a majority of the players get like a bus to the big events.

My friend Grant is giving me and five other people a ride to a couple of the States. Just make friends in the game, and you can find carpools pretty easily.

Bring in the $$$. Getting scolarships and selling cards to make a ton of money will show them :p

Yeah, if you made top cut, then that means you can actually make a profit out of this if you go to enough of these tournaments. Granted, it's something very few people can do, but from personal experience, if you can make money off of it, and it's not illegal, parents will be in full support of it.

When I first joined a league after taking a hiatus from the Pokemon TCG for the entirety of Hoenn, I thought it'd be out of place for a 16 year old to be playing still, but I was welcomed by a middle-aged man and his son who let me get right into the swing of things.

Now I'm nearing 21, and about 80% of the playerbase around here is older than I am. Not even kidding you here.

Age is not a factor at all - it's only perceived as such by ignorant people. PTCG is a social event - you are gathering with others who share the same interests as you, and Pokemon is what draws you all together, regardless of age - and it's not judgmental at all!

Everyone above me has offered excellent advice; I suggest you take it.

Thank you all for for the advice. I'll have to try them all, out.
