What about Unlimited Base is impossible? I'm afraid I don't understand.

I forgot all about Imakuni. While there was never an English print, his presence in the TCG Game Boy game makes him part enough of my childhood to be worth collecting. I will very likely look into that.

How come the Charizard ex card is worth so much more than older Base Set Charizards? I'm sure competitively speaking Charizard ex was superior, but I would think in terms of rarity Base Set would take the cake. Does it have to do with how long the prints ran?

I already have a number of shadowless cards, all of which are of very good condition. Especially a Ninetails, which looks fresh from the booster aside from some very minimal whiting on the back edges. The whole Base Set in Shadowless would be cool.

I also considered collecting all of the reprints of my childhood cards. This would include Base Set 2, Legendary, and the Gen IV Reprints. These aren't really that impressive to collectors, but again, it is mostly personal.

As of now, I have:
-Base Set (Complete)
-Jungle Set (Complete except FREAKING NIDOQUEEN)
-Fossil Set (Complete)
-Rocket Set (Completed entirely from boosters, superb condition)
-37 of the 53 Wizard Blackstars, 13 of which are still sealed
-The W stamped and early "PreRelease" Cards (Save Misty's Psyduck)
-Other promos such as Ancient Mew (sealed) and the Gold Border Meowth
-Every Starmie card ever printed in English, including Shadowless, 1st Editions, Reverse Holos, and reprints.
-Brock, Erika, Lt. Surge, The Rocket's Trap, Blaine, Giovanni, Koga, and Sabrina holos. (Brock is 1st Edition, I'm in the process of obtaining the others)
-Machamp Lvl X I pulled from a recent booster and hope to sell/trade somewhere for cards I need.
-Dragonite ex I found God-Knows-Where that I'm also wanting to trade.
-99 Rocket Abras
-99 First Edition Rocket Abras

8 print runs of base. And Machamp was only 1st edition.

An Unlimited Machamp isn't actually 1st Edition, since all true 1st Editions were during the Shadowless prints. Machamp is essentially a novelty, and since it was marked as 1st Edition for its entire Base Set life span, an Unlimited Machamp print shouldn't be regarded as 1st Edition at all. The only true 1st Edition Machamp would be shadowless and indiscernible from other Limited Machamps. You would have had to purchase a Starter Deck (if they existed) before the cosmetic makeover, and then only you would know for sure.

Long story short, Unlimited Machamps are Unlimited with a novelty sticker on them. They're not 1st Edition and shouldn't be seen as such. A shadowless Machamp is arguably 1st Edition, if of course the starter pack was purchased during the 1st Edition run of the set. Otherwise - it is pure novelty. It is no less legitimate in the Unlimited set than a "Stage 1 Card" Rapidash or Seaking from Jungle.

I think there must be some break down in communication here, because I'm 99.9% certain that having an Unlimited Base Set is pretty common place these days. A Limited/Shadowless Set on the other hand is much more rare.
