Note: This is assuming the next rotation rotates the rest of the XY era from Standard and all of B&W from Expanded.
This isn’t just deck predictions, this is just overall generalizations about the upcoming version of Standard. I know it’s way too early to be thinking about this, but hey, we have to be ready.
I think that the format is going to really slow down. Think of what we lose for a second:
Sycamore, N, Fisherman, Wally, Skyla, Giovanni’s Scheme, and all those lovely draw supporters.
Max Elixir, Bursting Balloons, Float Stone, Fighting Fury Belt, Splash and Burning Energy, etc...
Decks involving Talonflame, Greninja BREAK, Volcanion, Pokémon like Octillery, etc...
And that’s off the top of my head.
I predict Gardevoir GX along with all Stage 2 decks will just blow up. You can’t Skyla, you can’t Wally, you can’t Talonflame Aero Blitz for a Gardevoir and a Rare Candy. You have to rely on Cynthia, Sophocles, Lillie, and maybe even Hau to get what you want. You can’t get any stage 2 deck out at all if your main draw supporter is a shuffle-draw like Cynthia.
Garbodor is probably going to reign supreme due to the slower format meaning people will play massive piles of Garbodor food to get set up in the slightest definition of speedily.
And come to think of it, 56 Dark Energy Guzzlord might be meta. It gets set up insanely fast in the slow format I’m expecting, and it has the numbers.
Basic heavy decks like Tapu Koko GX I expect to reign supreme due to the lack of speed it takes to set up an evolution deck as fast as a Basic deck.
We lose Sycamore and Natural Harmonia Gropius, so maybe our most consistent draw support will be Lillie. Maybe we’ll see Sophocles. We’ll definitely see Cynthia, but decks without Sycamore won’t be the same. Maybe, Goomy forbid, we’ll end up actually using Hau. I know that Lusamine will definitely see play. They say in this day and age, don’t waste your supporter. But in the format we approach without many supporters, Lusamine and Gladion will find a perfect spot in decks.
What else do we predict for the oncoming Standard?
Remember: Note: This is assuming the next rotation rotates the rest of the XY era from Standard and all of B&W from Expanded.
