Discussion What do we think the format is going to be after rotation?

It's fun to speculate, but I do agree that it's way too early to prepare for next year's rotation. Who knows what will get reprinted, as well as what will get released over the next three sets. As for what sets will rotate, I think it's safe to assume Standard will be SUM-on based on how they've rotated sets in the past.

Imagine if someone posed this same question exactly a year ago for how our Standard Format would look today. Everyone's predictions back then would have been completely wrong because no one knew what cards we would be getting in Guardians Rising and Burning Shadows. Same things applies to your question now.

I personally think that It will be STS-on, just because if they rotate 4 sets every year.
SUM-on would be devistating, but it does make sence.

It will be EVO-on, when they rotate 4 sets (Generations won't count). I don't think they'll do that, so i'll stick with SM-on, they like to cut to the main series games' sets.

format is 100% SUM-on

By the time you should even think about making this thread we will not only have SM5 (prism stars) but SM6 in May and SM7 which should be legal at Worlds. This kind of thread should be outlawed until at least July.
I just spent five hours watching an animated, dancing Mawile. WHY

First, anyone needing some set rotation info at a glance: Google spreadsheet.

Second, let me echo the sentiment that it is really too early to broach the topic, but I'll roll with it (at least for a bit) just because of that odd situation where we are "doing it wrong" it may oddly provide useful discussion. XD

A lot of what I'd like to say has already said; what cards we appear to be losing, surprise reprints that have happened, and if you read the link I gave, the straight-up history of past rotations. I currently expect Sun & Moon/SM: Black Star Promos 01 and later to be the 2018-2019 Standard Format, while Black & White/BW: Black Star Promos BW01 less bans will still be Expanded. I would like the Expanded Format to rotate to XY/XY: Black Star Promos XY01+, possibly with the Legacy Format becoming an officially recognized (even if rarely used) thing. The next rotation has the slightest chance because all of XY will have left Standard play so there will be a significant difference between Standard and Expanded even sans the BW-series however, I'm betting it just won't happen.

So, what can I add? I want to emphasize how, even knowing what little we currently know, solid chance that Cynthia plus Tapu Lele-GX plus Pal Pad becomes the new face of draw Supporters. A solid shuffle-and-draw-six used over and over again, interwoven with other strong Supporter cards like Acerola, Guzma, etc. and backed up by some Pokémon draw as well. Could I be wrong? Absolutely!

Oh, and if the powers-that-be do release another "Discard hand. Draw 7 cards." Supporter, or re-release one of the existing ones, I'd rather they just name it Professor and issue an errata for the others. Yes, I've said this before. Yes, I still think it is the best way to handle it.
