What happened to Blazeray?

I have had good luck with BlazeRay also. I only missed top cut at the last battle roads because of resistance. I went 4-1 but two of my opponents ended up dropping plus the final round I got paired down. One of the opponents who dropped was a player that earned an invite to Worlds last year based on points, not by grinding in.

Nothing really went "wrong" with blazeray I would say, but I think people lost interest. And more people started running SP techs like mewtwo and machamp.

I don't think it will remain popular either after this set is on the market because Expert Belt pokemon will make quick work of it. Spiritomb also slows the deck down.

More like Spiritomb kills the deck. Not being able to play SP Radar, Energy Gain, Poketurn or Power spray makes an SP deck a slower, less powerful version of a traditional deck.

Yeah, I kinda gave up on BlazeRay. I was using it, but my "luck of the draw" always sucked so the speed of that deck was no better then a normal deck.

So now with AoA out, I have moved to Salamence lv X.

Yes. Nothing is wrong with the deck. People have just moved away from it.

i think slowly but surely people are starting to move away from sp decks. there's still really great cards but with more and more techs against sp's and more competition with evolution decks like gyarados, gengar, speedrill, etc. people are just moving away from them.

There is massive support with SP's but I think spiritomb as hyped as it is, can definitely put a dent on that support. can't say its a bad thing though. they had their moment in the sun for a while, now other decks are rising to the top. i sure don't see them going away completely any time soon but yeah. i'm running an sp blazsol deck and while it's given me some good games I'm probably going to go back to evolution decks after the release of PA.

All I know is this-
My friend played Blazeray(much more skilled player than me) went 2-2 and the deck just didn't win.
I played Luxape I went 3-1 twice, making my first top and 2-2 once but due to Flychamp matchup twice, gengar twice.
So I think Luxape is more consistent and much better late game as well which is what happened to Blazeray. I think the better question is this-
What happened to Gallade 4? It was hyped before RR and I didn't even see it at all.

Because people relized that adding a "ray" suffix to every deck doesn't make it better. I think that it's a hard to run list, and as others have said, there are many better choices, not to mention that a good blaze FBX has blaze PT, which should pose as more than a tech.

See, what happened was people hyped it, then put it in the sleeve, then frowned as they watched it die. It is good, just not THAT good. Good trade bait though. Its still a great card, just not-fantastic.

Gyarados happened.

Also, Blazeray was never that good to begin with.

Gyarados happened ages ago...but what really happened was over-hypeage...too many people seem to think you put Lux GLX in an SP deck (or almost any deck for that matter) and it's gold...when in actuality, it's not...BlazeRay is prime example of that...there's absolutely no synergy between the two, and they don't even really combo well either, so it ends up becoming one of those decks, I guess, that just sounds good...even though I never liked the idea of the deck to begin with

Gyrados didn't affect Blazeray. I stomped Gyrados every time I played it in swiss. Anything that could OHKO Gyrados and knock out their BTS, wins.
