What is difference between banned and members?

I'm serious, what's the difference (except being fainted Magikarp in sea of Mudkips). As I saw, banned people can come, post replies on threads, be online...

So what is the difference?

They cannot post. They can log on though. It depends if they are temp or perma for other things.

Perma-Banned members also cannot use the Private Messaging system (or PM system).

When you're banned, you cannot post/make threads until you are unbanned. If you are perma-banned, I believe you cannot access your User CP/send PM's.

Ah, I see what you're talking about. You're probably confused by seeing posts by banned members. You see, when members are banned, their posts remain on the forums, so that could possibly be what's confusing you.

Hm... I can see banned persons repling on forums. So I guess they only cannot post new threads?
