What is the best way to practice new decks for Pokemon?

The problem with PTCGO is the "pay-to-win" because of the token system. In other major card games, lets say OGY, they have a simulator that allows players to create decks withOUT the use of tokens locking you out. That simulator, OGYrookie, even gives you the option to play against AI decks to get used to the deck so you (somewhat) know what the heck you are doing when you play real people. OGYrookie also allows you to test cards from future sets so you know what deck to "invest" in.

Does Pokemon have a simulator similar to OGYrookie and Tragic the Gathering? Or does the Pokemon TCG strictly enforce their game?

tcgone is good

Yeah but don't you have to recollect all the cards from your deck in the online game to be able to test a deck? Newer players like me just don't have those cards in TCGO yet. Unless there's a way to play with cards you don't have that I don't know about.

AFAIK you can create decks for playing quickplay games without restrictions, however it isn't up to date on format, so there is no steam siege yet.

The only way to get legit results is irl via league skype meet ups, etc. ptcgo has its restrictions and tcgone is buggy and laggy.

It's good to have a friend group that can play, whether that be in real life or even online. I personally just test a crapton on PTCGO and look for consistency in my deck regardless of what my opponent is playing. Granted, playing against Vileplume is really irritating lol.

Personaly i think that TCGone is pretty bad compared to Yu-Gi-Oh Duelist network. In Dueling Network you can make you're own decks with all cards in the game. Don't get me wrong i love pokemons Competitive play. It's very easy to get into ( what controlled the format Night march , bulld night march or what counters night march ). So i'm going to discuss the way that i prepare ofr some battles.

I do something i like to call a Play test. For my Trev deck the goal of it is : get trev up first turn and get all 4 up. This is how you do it

  1. Shuffle your deck

  2. Draw your hand ( Seven cards doy )

  3. Play through the turn as of you went first ( no using attacks )

  4. Now because you are not playing against an opponent when you finish the turn just count on to turn two

  5. Continue this process until you have set up your board how you like it ( 3 trevs , 1 wobb for me )

I don't test online, as my resources for PTCGO are rather limited, and TCGOne is underwhelming to me. To test in person, I proxy. Typically, I'll be proxying a new build of a current deck, so I only have to change a few things, but sometimes I need to change a ton. I just use slips of paper with the card name, personally, because when I test, I either test solo, or against a friend who knows the game extremely well.

For solo testing, I shuffle up, draw my hand, set prizes, the whole nine yards. Then, I "play" the first three turns. Occasionally I count as if I get a knock out, and occasionally the other way around as well, depending on board state. After "Turn 3", I stop, analyze what I did, what I could have done, and the whole bit. I study the situation quite closely.

Best thing you can do is proxy up cards you want to test out and play in some local events like league or just have a meetup with other players from your area.
