Because I was looking for this dude named Tyler Durden, and it turned out I was Tyler Durden. And I was also crazy.
And then my older brother killed my whole family, or something stupid like that. Maybe it was part of a conspiracy.
After that I was hit by a truck for no plot-significant reason.
Finally, my creator was betrayed by his comrade who used six robots to take over the world. And then I had to be turned into a fighting robot, named Mega Tyler Durden Man III, who can be killed in three hits by bolts of lightning and also killed INSTANTLY by spikes.

First off, no parents (That's almost a gimmie, but somewhat important). The only family he had was his brother Knives and caretaker Rem. When all other people on the ship that they're on (all 4 of them) grow weary of the brothers Knives sends the ship into orbit of a desert planet, planning on crashing it and killing everyone. Rem sacrifices herself to save them, so the Caretaker's gone. Then when they land they have to somehow survive on the desert planet. Later, Knives tells Vash to wait for an entire year in one spot, and Vash willingly complies. He's given a gun, shoots the only family he has and runs. When he tries to find the only renaming member of Rem's famlily alive Knives appears and kills the family member. He also then causes a chain reaction that causes Vash to lose his entire right arm, and destroy all non-organic material within a five mile radius. And that's not even the events of the show, that's just what happened before hand.
He's a pacifist with a $60,000,000,000 bounty. I'm not kidding, that's the actual number.

However, as he gets older, he meets a young bounty hunter named Saya who teaches him that killing isn't always necessary.
