What's After EX's

RE: What's Next After EX?

I don't mind EXs for the most part, I just wish that the sets were more balanced with good cards than just EXs. Right now almost every regular rare is garbage and only a handful of holos are good. I wouldn't mind having something like Primes again after EXs.

On the topic of Stage 2s, my approach would be:

- Revise the evolution rule to "have been on the field before the start of your turn" instead of the current. Basically it means that if a Pokemon was in play on your opponent's turn, it can evolve on your turn.

- Improve the basics and stage 1s which can turn into stage 2s. This is especially important because what stage 2s lack isn't power, but consistency due to the space you could have used for a trainer card being used for your pre evolved forms. Things like, say, Combusken FFI attaching 2 Fire energy to itself from the discard after being played, or Nuzleaf FLF having a reverse Call for Family ability.

- Optional: Errata for Toad. Cost to water colorless, damage to 50.

Hmmm. What about a Stadium with a once-per-turn Rare Candy effect? It would circumvent Toad and allow Stage 2 decks to keep up with Stage 1 decks speed-wise.

In regards to the "next EXs," I'd like to see a return to more complexity in decks like a few years ago, with the Lost Zone/Vilegar etc. I started playing when XY came in, and I feel I missed some of the really interesting combo-orientated decks that were going around then. So I guess you could say I want less big, shiny Pokemon and more Pokemon with cool techniques and abilities that can be combined in interesting ways.

Hey guys! Try to stay on topic :D. Creating a new thread about how to make Stage 2's more viable would be a good idea if that's what you want to discuss. In this thread please discuss the next thing after EX's. Thanks!

Maybe just lv.100 or lv.max. I used to like how they used to give each pokemon card a level in the older cards they stopped doing that after dp and somewhere.

I think trying to fit in three attacks for more stage 2 pokemon would be the way to go forward if they continue with EX mechanic.

To answer the question and to reiterate what some have already mentioned, exs are here to stay. I started playing end of last year (around fuf) so dont know any different but can see why presumably pee ex players don't like them. It's a somewhat different game with them included.
Having said that i like the comment about stage 1 chains becoming more powerful especially with ancient traits and the comment about having stage 2 cards with 3 attacks. Good evolutions and counters for the game.
Really what it comes down to is you either accept and adapt or leave. My answer for those that think the game is so broken with exs that they can't play anymore is to make their own sub league that bans exs, intact I think that would be something that should be considered for real and additional to adding ex cards in new sets ,keep the stage 2 chains alive! They are fun and more true to the original format of the game.

What I is becoming hopeful is the increase in Stage 1 decks, namely things like Flareon. I've also been designed many rogues that can actually beat things, but they rarely run EX attackers. These decks are increasingly becoming able to hit for high numbers, thus are difficult for EXs to deal with due to the prize trade. Maybe the drawback of 2 prizes may be starting to pay off?

I'd love to see one of your lists, can you PM me one? Don't worry, im not gonna use it and claim it as my own. I just wanna see it.

The thread says "what's after EX?" but with Mega forms being pretty brand new we're stuck with them for at least another full year, possibly longer as the mega gimmick stays fresh. Spirit links are evidence that they really REALLY want the players to use mega pokemon (since before spirit links most megas were pretty much ignored except for one or two).
