Mine is the Pachycephalosaurus I started to really like it after seeing it on a land before time movie since it was portrayed evilly. What's your favorite? Why?

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

This is like asking me my favorite food. I just... can't.
I can probably pick out a couple I like the most though! d:
Archaeopteryx!: Nostalgia. When I was a kid who was SUPER into dinosaurs, it blew my mind to find out that there was one that was basically a cross between a dino and a bird. This was before the knowledge that birds evolved from dinosaurs was widespread, so of course I know how it really works now, but it still brings back those feelings of "WHOA COOL!"
Kentrosaurus!: A relative of the better-known Stegosaurus which trades some plates for more spikes. Including spikes jutting from its shoulders. For some reason. I just really have a thing for spiked animals.
Any therapsid!: What? These aren't technically dinosaurs? Well, yeah... But I'm gonna talk about them anyway. Just like the kid in me that loves Archaeopteryx for being a dino-bird, the adult me loves therapsids for being reptile-mammals. I look at their skeletons and I love them because they are so perfectly in-between mammalian and reptilian. They're an example that life can be incredibly diverse, but still all related somehow. I collect and study skulls, and it's a bit like how every mammal skull has the same basic parts and structures, just in different proportions and shapes.

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

I like Spinosaurus... I used to know a LOT about dinosaurs when I was a kid. I was teaching workers at the museum things when I was like 7! But now I don't remember that much about them but I remember some about Spinosaurus. The main thing that stuck was that its fossils are found in North Africa and that's it. I just really like it it's such a cool dinosaur. :D

Edit: Let's see how many I recognize. I recognize Pacycephalasaurus, Archeopteryx, and Kentrosaurus but not Therizinosaurus

Therizinosaurus seem pretty cool to me. I found out about this one when I read a dinopedia book.

You know what's weird the first picture on the right has the same coloring as a shiny braviary. Also i have never seen that one thanks for showing me it.

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

I like quite a few:

Megaraptor
I just love raptors. This is a giant raptor.

Seismosaurus
I'm just amazed at the size of this creature. I don't think there will ever be creatures this big that will live ever again.

Therizinosaurus
Just... those claws. :p

Seismosaurus may have possibly been the longest animal ever, but in terms of overall mass and size, the blue whale actually still has it beat! Weird, huh?

Yeah, but it's scary to think that a creature he size of a blue whale that was just a bit lighter once walked the very ground that we live on today.

so I guess non-real life dinosaurs aren't going to be represented then

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

I'm assuming this covers all prehistoric animals so....
top 5 (in no particular order):

5 - Spinosaurus
Whilst not my favorite, its still always had an appeal to me (most likely due to Jurassic Park). I love pretty much everything about it in general; its probably one of my more favorite dinos to make into a fakemon. (Ive even made a Water/Psychic one...)

4 - Polacanthus
I love this thing. As far as I've seen its lesser-known; I still love it.

3 - Gorgonopsid
Ohmygod.
Its a huge therapsid.
With amazing power.
Everything about it screams awesome to me.

2 - Gastornis
GIANT. FLESH. EATING. BIRD.
need I say more?

1 - Woolly rhino
its a rhino which I normally love... it also is fluffy... cuddly rhino...
(side note: we need a proper rhino Pokemon)

additionally, top 5 prehistoric marine animals:

5 - Megalodon
I'd be lying if I said the concept that a giant shark once lived on Earth isn't awesome.

4 - Mosasaur
I love most extinct marine reptiles, but for some reason the mosasaur has always had a special place in my heart.

3 - Basilosaurus
I already love whales, and like Megalodon, the concept of a giant whale that was an active hunter is awesome.

2 - Dunkleosteus
Like the mosasaur, I've always had a soft spot for this thing. (its ironic because its armored and therefore not soft at all, infact its quite the opposite)

1 - Liopluerodon
Ever since I've known about this thing, I've loved it.
And when I say loved, its one of my favorite overall prehistoric animals. Probably like 2nd overall.

I said it like that so people wouldn't post a fake dinosaur species. Their species can still be listed here. (p.s. my fave of that grouup is spike)

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

Velociraptor.
They were supposed to be the size of a chicken(I think), but they could mess you up.
Still, the name sounds cool.

RE: What's your favorite real life dinosaur and why?

Spinosaurus. If this beast would've had the geographical abilities to face off against tyrannosaur, it'll basically be what you saw in Jurassic Park 3. I mean, it's bigger, has a better endurance, longer snout and...
Guys
Not only does it boast three claws on it's front arms...
But...
(This will blow your mind by the way)

IT CAN ACTUALLY USE ITS FRONT ARMS!!!!!!
OOOOOOOOOOO

They were considerably larger than a chicken, they stood almost as tall as a person actually. There were, however, species of raptors that could reach that size.

And since this is prehistoric creatures, I'll have to add quite a few:

Liopluerodon

It was probably the biggest of the Kronosaurs, and it was just straight up bad to the bone.

Futabasaurus
Yet another water dwelling creature, this one is a plesiosaur. It wasn't large, it wasn't all that special, I just like him for some reason.

Megalodon
Last water dweller, I promise. Megalodon was just pretty much a giant shark. I just love the thought of it. I actually have a fossilized Megalodon tooth that I got a couple years ago off of the internet, just because I love Megalodon so much.

quetzalcoatlus
A Pterasaur with a wingspan the size of a small plane? Yes please.

And, my all time favorite:

A 6.7 foot long turkey with sharp teeth. That's about right.

For some reason I was thinking of Deinonychus. o_O

Wait I was thinking height not length lol.

RE: What's your favorite real life prehistoric creature and why?

As a future paleontologist, I approve of this thread.

Some of my personal favorites include:
- Parasaurolphus
- Epindrosaurus
- Tapejara
- Leaellynasaura
- Stygimoloch

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I could go on forever listing all of my favorites, but I figured that five would be enough for now.

RE: What's your favorite real life prehistoric creature and why?

Ankylosaurus. Why? Just look at this kickass son of a bitch
list_640px.jpg

Check out those horns, spikes, plated back, and club tail. This thing can wreck your shit and steal your girlfriend.

Edit: You are correct on length but it was only 1.6 feet tall at the hip.
