When and how did you get into Pokemon tcg?

I jumped all over Pokemon merchandise after buying Red version day one. I stopped after Crystal version, and started with the games again when DP hit. Didn't get back into the card game until last summer when I was at WalMart with some friends and bought a pack (LA) for shiggles. I got a Magnezone Lv. X in the pack.
 
I've been into the games and cards since it first aired here. I just collected the cards, but i just recently became interested in actually playing the tcg.
 
so i was 10 years old when pokemania swept the nation i got the og starter deck with machamp and loved it. this sixth grader used to teach us to play wrong( when we knocked out a pokemon we took the opponents prizes*for keeps* ) and he had a charizard deck and used to hustle us younger ones really bad. so my older brother didnt play but his girlfriend was really good and she made me a haymaker (scyther hitmonchan and electibuzz) deck and told me if i lost just to punch him in the face... So i long story short i took himm six prizes to none and kept three first ed. 'zards. he never played again.. i lost interest a year or two later and now ten years down the road here i am again, i jumpeed into OP like one month ago and love how the game has come along its alot of fun and me and five of my college age friends play every day its alot of fun!
 
Haha, funny story actually. I was 8 years old.

I was a video game nerd and subscribed to Nintendo Power. Naturally, I played the gameboy games. Well when the pokemon tcg came out, they sent out a "starter" card, being either bulbasaur, charmander, or squirtle. I got charmander. Studied it for about 3 minutes and said, "Mom...can I start playing these?" and she said yes, so I started saving up allowances I got for cleaning to buy packs. I stopped playing at Neo 4, started again at EX Delta Species, stopped by Holon Phantoms, started on Diamond/Pearl, stopped at diamond/pearl because of my girlfriend lol, then started again at platinum and i'm still going strong. My first lv X was the skymin tin X, now I have over 20 lv x's.
 
My friend got me into it about half a year ago. I was in the store with him, and he bought a tin, and he gave me his doubles. My first level x was a Infernape.
 
I started playing back with the Base Set. I had a pretty decent collection, all the way from Base Set to Gym Heroes set. Back then I had a friend who was younger than me but we'd always hang out and play against each other. Then one day he was like "Hey, let me see your cards. I want to see if I can make a deck out of what you have." So I handed it over but he didn't tell me that next day he was moving. I have no idea where he went but he made off with my entire collection. T^T

Now 8 years later, I end up playing Platinum on a whim and suddenly I remember how awesome the entire franchise was and how much I loved the TCG. After all the TCG was how I started. Since I stopped before LvlX was even thought of, I have yet to even get one, especially since I am kind of broke lately.

Seriously, Pokemon brought out the worst in our generation. I remember having some of my friends (funny how we call them that) over to play Smash 64 or something. I go to the bathroom, and when I come back, they say, "Oh, we have to go." I take a look at my Pokemon cards and just about everything is gone, and I never see them again.

I am actually a yugi-oh and duel master player and then my mom said I should stop playing with those cards due to sensitive cases .. then while I was walking I pass by into this store that was selling pokemon . then I tried buying some *ex holon phantoms, the first set I knew* and dear me I got my first ex card .. its a walrein ex ~_~ then I was curious on how to play with it .. then it all went straight upto right now ..

1st ex card: walrein ex
1st lv.x card: empoleon lv.x
1st tin: regigigas lv.x
1st deck: green cyclone theme deck *ex crystal guardian*

lol though I don't play at tourneys *coz its far from my place*
I still play with friends at the age of 17 ~_~

and now I run a rayquaza c lv.x and a honckrow deck ~_~

That is sorta like my story (even though I still play Yu-gi-oh!), but I mostly got back into the TCG as I weirdly was looking at my old rare binder my friend gave me (I have a LOT of old Base Set Rares :)), but ever since, this TCG and Yu-gi-oh! are my two main games :) And to match up with your 1sts:

1st ex Card: Claydol ex
1st Lv. X card: 2 Shaymin Lv. X's (both arts and I got them on the SAME DAY! :D)
1st Tin: Lucario Booster Tin
1st deck: Flourish (and mostly of where my Grass Helper deck cards come from)
