Where and How to Buy?

I just got back into the game and was wondering:
1. Should I buy decks if they have lines that I want, or should I stick to booster packs?
2. Or should I skip the boosters and decks altogether and just buy single cards from online sites? and if so, where?

Well, first you need to decide what and how to make a deck. Learn everything you need to know about cards before doing anything. You could browse the forum first. After deciding what deck to build, it's advisable to buy single cards first then make a deck depending on your budget. Then, after your deck's done, buy boosters and start trading.

But I started cards this way. My friend gave me his entire collection for free. Then I traded them away to start my own. Buying boosters to make a new deck is OK but it really depends on your luck.

And also, buying decks is the most reliable way to get basic Energy cards, since booster packs lacked them entirely until recently, and even then it only applies for certain sets.

Here's how I started:

My Friend taught me and 2 of my other friends how to play. We were playing with Base set decks :p Then the next day, we went on a booster pack raid and bought so many packs. After deciding what kind of deck to build, I started trading for cards I needed. But I was getting easy trades. (People want the weirdest cards these days) lol.

So for me, buying a lot of boosters helped in the long run, because even though I sometimes didn't get what I wanted, I traded cards I got for cards I wanted.

Buy a Deck and get boosters afterwards. I buy decks just to get the rares from them.:)

I started with the 'Terra Firma' deck when I got back into the card game. This was a good solid starter, though the dark end of it was pretty useless. I think it only came with a handful of dark energies and a few mediocre-at-best dark Pokémon.

It was a decent starting point, however, and I ended up making a fairly solid grass mono-color out of it. Since then, I've found all my old base-era cards and used my old energies to make a rainbow colorless deck.

As has been said before, buying a deck is just about the only good way to get energies. If you're lucky, a Diamond and Pearl booster might yield you one.

If you have a deck in mind that you'd like to build sometime, you can try buying an eBay energy lot. There are a lot of people who have found old cards that they're willing to sell, and some of them parse their energies out into separate auctions.

i would buy 1 or 2 theme decks to have the energy(and new!) and then get boosters and trade for cards at your local league
