Adults openly talk about politics all the time. And besides, it's good for "kids" to take an active interest in politics.

Anyway, no more of this as you are getting off topic. If you are uncomfortable with these threads then don't read or post in them, simple as that. Do not bother replying either, as that will be even more off topic, and your post will be deleted plus you will receive a warning.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

He doesn't deserve the prize yet, as all he has are intentions to make peace. And it's not as if a billion other people in this world want a peaceful world and are trying to assist in their own small way.

For those who think pulling out of Iraq is enough for him to receive the Prize, the move is actually expected of Obama. Bush went into Iraq, made the country chaotic (well at least Saddam's gone lol), and he became extremely unpopular that way. It would be silly for Obama to keep troops inside. If you still think that this is a very peaceful move, remember that the deadline for choosing the nominee for the Peace Prize was only two weeks into Obama's presidency.

Obama saying that he does not deserve the Prize does not actually mean that he thinks that it's bad. As a public figure, especially in a country where people power is very strong, he has to appear to be a humble leader. He was handling health care reform, North Korea, Iran, and worse of all for the Prize, a troop surge in Afghanistan at that time, and he had to try his best to give a good impression to the world.

Those who see Obama receiving the Prize as epic fail should remember that it's still is one of the most prestigious honours in the international community. The Prize would pressure Obama to work for peace, and he can use it to give him more of an excuse in trying to quickly solve the Israel and the Middle East crisis. In the end, while people can say that he doesn't deserve it, it doesn't have any major adverse effects, does it?

As for the original post, I don't see what Obama's plans for the education system has anything to do with the Peace Prize. The Prize is given for making the world a better place in terms of peace. It isn't a Teacher's Prize.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

Well, ok then.

I personally dont think he deserves it yet. He really hasnt done anything to applaud yet.

I do not approve of him sending more troops oversea. That is not the answer.

IF, he can succesfully end this war, then he deserves it without a doubt.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

Look, people give way to much crap/credit to the president.
I personaly don't think he deserves the prize, yet it always gets to me that people constantly forget that the president is not an almighty dictator. Yes, he has control over the armed forces, scorn him for that. But otherwise he can't magicly fix the economy, he can't fund all of the schools, or create peace just be shouting at people to make up (although the +30,000 troops gets to me :/).

And about the summer vacation thing, don't worry. Do you know how many tourist traps require the cheap work that many high-schoolers can deliver? The city of Wisconsin Dells would probably be compleatly abandoned (I live near there). And that just goes back to my statment above. He can suggest that congress passes that bill. He can also suggest that congress light themselves on fire, and sing "Love Shack". Just because he says that he'll try does not mean that he can automaticly succede.

And to be fair, if you forgot that, a little bit more school is EXACTLY what you need.

That's not the problem. What of the teachers? No raise, all that work and you want to EXTEND it even further without a raise in pay? That's going to harm the education system more than it will benefit.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

I think I should get a Nobel Peace Prize, for not going out of my way to hurt people.

I think there was another president or important US politician who got a Peace Prize and didn't deserve it...they were after FDR but before Reagan, someone help me out. It might have been Nixon.

Nixon? Watergate guy? lolwut

After Roosevelt there's Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter. I'm not American though so I don't know what they did.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Woodrow Wilson, and Theodore Roosevelt are all the Presidents that have gotten the Nobel Peace Prize and there's really no reason why any of them shouldn't have.

dmaster out.

RE: Why did Obama get the noble peace prize?

Okay, I think I was thinking of Jimmy Carter. Woodrow Wilson was a genius and Roosevelt was a total badass, so they definitely deserved it.
