Why do you play Pokemon?

Ok guys, for now I am the Dr. Phil of Pokemon if you will. Just call me....Dr. Eric. Todays topic is "why do you play Pokemon?" For me it all started on my friends birthday. His dad didnt want him playing Yu-Gi-Oh any more because he thought they were "possessed" or something. Now, this friend has asthma, so he cant really do much out-side, and Yu-Gi-Oh is pretty much what he spent all his time on. He was pretty upset, so I decided to get him the 2 Holon Phantoms theme decks, and hoped he would take a liking to Pokemon instead...He did. Then we started to play a couple matches. I won them all :D. Now Im the type of person who LOVES to win and HATES to lose. Since I kept winning I started to like it more and more, and here I am. So nows it's your turn. Why do you play Pokemon? And no less that 100 words.

...also as I started to get more into the game I realized just how strategic it is, and those are the kinds of things I like the most :D

hey pokeric nice story. I was really into pokemon when it was a craze, but that was just for trading the cards and talking about it in school. Then I stopped liking it because my friend started making fun of it. At that period I said that I "hated" it, but that was not the case at all. Some time, 2 years ago, I went to gamestop and decided to buy leafgreen version. When I first played that game, everything came back to me, the video games and the tcg. I like pokemon because it is a fun hobby and my parents and most of my friends never have a problem with it. The friend that hated it even likes it a little bit because when he comes over to my house he always asks questions about it.

As much as I would love to write so lurby noble reason, the sad truth is no the less. that the main reason I play pokemon, is for money. I go to the free tornaments, win packs, get the cards, keep them until someone thinks of a combo (or until they will get rotated) and sell them. Of course, I now love the strategy that goes into them, though exs really ruined alot of that. Infernape Lv. X did to, that card is just stupid.

I personally played to have fun and I enjoy the deck making aspect greatly and seeing diff results with diff decks. And how rewarding when stuff like "thats a bad matchup" or "you aint gonna win" and then I do.Lol that was what it was all about. But now its like cutthroat competition and you must win, win, win!!!There is no time for fun if you want that trip etc. But the game is what you make it out to be.Its really hard to coordinate fun and competitiveness in the same person. Being in one of the hardest metagames in the world makes it even harder to have fun.I see many others around me becoming like this too, but thats just my take on it.

i play pokemon to keep close so my family, and meet new friends from everywhere!

ok. let me retype that again
i play pokemon because my dad plays and so does my mom. so it really bonds us together. also, al my friends play. i also like meeting new friends from everywhere! it all started 2 years ago... my dad bought a deoxys theme deck, and i bought rayquaza! My mom, of course, bought a frlg charmeleon deck because we had collected cards and had charizard ex. andway, we played, and we fell in love with the game. now, we run a league in washington, we play the video games, watch the show, go to every website immaginably, we're real pokemaniacs! another reason i play is that it keeps my brain working. it helps me think and work and stuff. :) i really enjoy it. last year, my father and mother competed in the nationals 06 with me. we fell in love with even more there when we saw all the great stuff. a local league organizer told us about starting our own league. ever sence, we eat, sleep, and breath pokemon!

well, ever since i was 6 years old i have been playing many different card games. And 6 years ago, everyone thought card games were fun and cool. But now, if you dare play a card game, u must make sure that u never let word get out that u do. Or else u will suffer many years in school of being made fun of. Well, my extremely low endurance limits me to not being able to play sports for so long. I continue to play card games to the fact that u shouldn't be teased for having a hobby. another reason is that i have an addiction to spending money and want to spend it on something that i can play with. i will not type anymore, so if this isnt 100 words, i dont care.

Ok, I'm not gonna waste my time to type 100 words.

I've been playing poke since base set. Love em. The reason why I play poke cuz I enjoy it. Been a rogue player for long time and love it. Plus I don't care if I win or lose. Important thing is to have fun. No, I don't lose alot, cuz I'm skilled rogue player. Just play for fun.

I don't play it but I collect the cards. Anyway the reason why I do it is because when Pokemon first came out I did not like it and my sister watched the show and collected the cards for about 1 year and then one of my friends got me into it by showing me his base Charizard and then after about 1 year I started watching the show and slowly I started getting into it more and more until I loved it and now I collect the cards more than ever and my friends gave me over 1,500 cards for FREE and now I have 3,042 Pokemon cards and it includes a mint condition star Skyridge reverse holographic crystal Charizard and just this last Sunday I got more Pokemon cards and they included 2 reverse holographic black star promo Enteis from the Neo Genisis series. I have 169 pages and 1 on page 170 of cards front and back and I still have about 540 cards or about 30 pages left before I have to get more pages. The most cards I got in 1 year is 972. The second highest is 499 and 3 and more down is between 200 and 468 each year up until now which is a bit less but over 200 per year.:)

I play Pokemon cause it's a pretty cool game. when i was in 1st grade (7 years ago) my uncles girl-freind's little brothers and i were watching a the premiere of pokemon on WB. We thought it was cool. Then one day we found out about the TCG. We didn't know there was a game to it but we just collected. A few years later in 4th Grade i got into Yu-Gi-Oh and left pokemon behind me. After finding out my freind, Rick, also had pokemon cars we decided to get back into it. when Ex: Deoxy's was released, i quit cause no one i knew was into it anymore and i didn't know about leagues. About 2 years later i was bored one day and decided to go to all the websites i used to visit when i was little, then i saw the pokemon website and clicked it. I saw the front page and it said something about the Dragon Frontiers Prerelease. i took a look at the scans of all the sets i missed out on and I got back into pokemon. I won't be playing for long though. My Grandma thinks it's a waste of money buying cards and making the Japanese rich. The Japanese deserve it though cause pokemon's a fun game, but my Grandma doesn't understand. I'm going to have to quit sometime next year, cause if i don't my Grandma is going to leave all of her money (the money you leave when you die) to my sister instead of me. The only reason i'm getting cards now is because my Grandad has been buying them without my G-ma finding out. I still have plenty of time though. I'll just have to do what i can to make the game last while it can for me.

I play because I am good. I personally hate all the money I spend. And all the time I give up for the game. It isnt even that fun of a game. But I'm good at it.And at certain points, I enjoy it. Thats all that matters to me.

I like it.

Really isn't much more. Oh, and I'm competitive, so I went for something that I had easy access too. That happened to be Pokemon cards.

Arcanine out.

Well like most people i was too one of the little kids in the Craze of pokemon in 3rd/4th grade. But like everyone else it was just let go like every other fad. But 6 years later. My friend and his bother found there cards and started playing. At first i thought it was stupid and it was still a little kids game. But i decided to try it anyway and then it became fun again. So then i started to go to pokemon tournys and pre-releases and had fun.

I moved from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur and got invited to my first birthday party here (yay) and I think almost everybody there was playing Pokemon cards so I got into it and kept asking my friends questions. When I went to Singapore for holiday (yay again), I got the Team Magma theme deck (yay again again), and when I found out that there was such a thing as a Pokemon tournament (tahnks to J.Q)(yay again again again), Iwent there, 1 week later, was my first pokemon tourney and it was the Legend Maker prerelease !
I only got 1 win (by a buy)(yay again again again again) until I got better and better, but at some point my skills got stuck and I keep winning 2/3 games out of 4 almost each Saturday. So, now I'm here. :D (BTW, the tourney is in BSC and Atria)

For me, it started, like most people, during the craze that was sweeping the world. I watched the T.V. show, liked it. A local shop had a little comic of the first Pokémon episode. I bought that. In it, there was information about the Pokémon Card game, which interested me, so of I went (or possibly, one of my parents went) to get the Starter deck. I played a few games and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, during the first 6 or 7 sets of the games life, I was only able to play at home against my brother and dad, and anyone who came round with a deck, so, apart from stuff in magazines, I didn't know what competitive decks there were, but I still enjoyed how fun it was. The amount of times I won was also a contribution to that as well. When Neo came along (I can't remember which one), one of my friends told me about a local league, which heightened the amount of enjoyment I got out of the game, and making new friends along the way. The only time I stopped was when the E-on rotation came around since I didn't have enough cards from then to make a deck, until Team Magma v. Team Aqua came along. Since then, I've been a regular at the league, and my enjoyment of the game had never dropped. So I still play because I still enjoy the game, learning new strategies and making new friends along the way.

I started playing it when I was 9 years old. Loved playing it with my friends, and I still do. :3 Though, I mostly do more collecting than playing now. xD

When I was a kid, I played unorganized with my friends. That was during the base set, then I quit :). About, 8 Years later, I played again because of Politoed.
