Why does everyone use over 20 trainers?

I am also using empoleon deck.. just a starter to help.. thats why i also used alot.. otherwise my norm will be 24-26

The most I've had in a deck is 40 in lunasol. Trainers speed up every deck. Drawing 6 cards>drawing 1.

I usually don't use more than 19 trainers. My Pokémon make up the bulk of my decks, mainly because they're the most important part of the game and the decks (it's not called the Trainer TCG ). My energy is usually between 16-17.

^Wrong. Trainers have and will most likely continue to make decks. The difference in mirror matchs is 1) player skills, 2) trainer list, 3) techs, and 4) luck.

Most I ever used was my Legendary Zapdos deck for the PTCG on the GBC. It had 1 Pokemon, 20 Energy, and 39 Trainers, and it worked.
