Why is everyone saying Charizard* is unplayable without Basic Dark Energy?

They're slightly more playable than some though, like the Regi*'s. You need to set yourself up under perfectly suicidal conditions to do any sort of damage. Regice has EX protection... for 10, and Regirock is a bit worse, but I think Registeel is pretty bad. Maximum of 60 if your behind, and you'd be pretty dumb to snipe the bench and leave yourself to die with no bench yourself. Then there's the Eeveelution*'s coming out in PK. Jolteon looks horribly unplayable, and it doesn't even give itself free retreat for being so fast.
 
Yeah all and all I think that the DS ones were alright though. Also Mew * isn't terrible, though it is a bit unplayable, unless you get something good working.
