Me and a friend decided to do a race in LG/FR, and we told each other that we should battle at the end of each gym leader, to monitor progress and use tactical changes ect..ect..
He decided he wanted all three starters, and I went along with it, not bothering which one I ended up getting.
I began and I decided I would want to level up 5 levels per gym leader. (1-15, 2-20, 3-25 ect.) However I found this increasingly difficult.
Arriving at the 3rd gym leader I remembered that Lt.surges Pokemon are roughly about 1 maybe two levels higher than some of my Pokemon. So I decided to train against some trainers using VS seeker. Only to find that I was getting barely any experience whatsoever. Enough to level maybe once or twice, just like I needed. From the 4th gym leader onwards (at this point the score stood at 3-1, to me) I decided not to cut any corners and battle every trainer in the vicinity. (I already did battle 9/10 of all trainers). So I came up to Sabrina, very hard the first play through but I could easy take her down on my others. I finally teleport to her and I looks at my Pokemon.
Haunter - 40
Graveler - 38
Venasaur - 40
Raichu - 37
Flareon - 40
Gyarados - 37
I sighed.
I went back and found that I could only scrape back two or three levels. Out of the remaining Kanto trainers. I just realised that one island was waiting up ahead, so I could rain in the Pokemon mansion, beat Blaine and get my levels up their. So that I could face Giovanni with AT LEAST lv. 45 Pokemon.
I came back with my lowest level 42 and my highest 46. I vs seeker'd some more and got back a few levels, again about 1 or 2.
My friend was catching up and the score was 4-3. I went back, equipped items on my Pokemon leveled up in Victory road and my levels now are as follows:
Gengar - 51
Golem - 49
Venasaur - 48
Raichu - 50
Gyarados - 50
Flareon - 48
I don't know what I am doing wrong, I'm not getting enough experience and I don't know why. It's never been a problem before, I have always arrived at the Elite 4 with respectable levels.
