I hear alot of people saying it is now the best gen. I personally think that it is not. But There is so much hype for it, people who are didn't usually play Pokemon are now playing the games thanks to 5th gen. (where I am anyways)
5th gen has already become a massive hit with EU and the U.S.
Teams are being built in advance and tier, move and EV sets are alrerady affecting the players first time through.
Is it just the mad hype or is this ACTUALLY the best gen?

Uh, I'm sure that the fifth generation won't be forgotten- it's certainly not the best generation, but the addition of many new features is very exciting for the fans and gamers in general as well.

Well, usually a generation of one of the most famous video games in the world usually isn't forgotten. It may not be the best generation (power creep) but it is a new generation so it automatically get's popularity. So far, I don't really think anyone has even forgotten about Red and Blue let alone later generations, so I think this one will be burned into our minds as well.

Definatly wont be forgotten because it was revolutionizing in graphics, and the preorders make it really put in the "hall of fame"

^ i loved seeing those stats on the main page (it was ont ehre right maybe i saw it somwhere else). i just made say ha take that call of duty and halo...you have been beat by pokemon.

i think that pokemon hit a spike of popularity lately. i remember that D/P didnt have to much of a craze (although...i wasnt on these forums at the times) and it wasnt as talked about as gen 5. it wont be forgotten. and as long as the old poke are still in the new games no gen will ever be forgotten.

Imo, 5th gen deffinetly ain't the best. It won't be forgotten. There's much hype around it, just like back in 2006/2007 when DP were being released worldwide.

From a competitive standpoint, gen 5 brought team preview. While it doesn't change the mechanics of how the game is played, it definitely changed how the game is played - you can see your opponent's team now, the same way you can in PBR. Never before has this happened in a main Pokemon game, so no, gen 5 will never be forgotten. Some of the Pokemon might be a bit forgettable, but that's true for every generation (except maybe the first). We get some major change in every generation, and gen 5's is team preview. No one'll forget that.

If you don't play competitively, then yes, it might be a little forgettable, but it's the first game with 3D-ish graphics, fully animated front and back sprites, and the POKEMON MUSICAL LOLOL so there's something, right?

Sadly, Pokemon is (well was) more aimed at children. If the children don't like it, this could be the last Generation in the U.S. That's my biggest worry. I'm personally really excited about it but, it seems a bit advanced for the youngins. I just hope Nintendo doesn't lose hope on the U.S...

Well games have a larger audience. That's probably why the game can survive where the movies no longer hit the big screen outside Japan.

If you read my thread I have a few reasons as to why this generation may be the last.
1. Overwhelming number of Pokemon.
2. Plot line?
3. ^^

Since when has an overwhelming number of pokemon stopped the franchise moving forward? Plus every game has a had a plot. Some people just think this game's plot is "better" (read: they just prefer it). I don't think you can use that as reason to say it may be the last gen.

And ^^ is not a reason...

I think the notion that the fifth Generation could possibly be forgotten is out of the question - are any of the other Generations forgettable? Each one introduced new aspects to Pokémon, changing the games and how we view them. Each Generation influenced the players, and for some players, it was their first step into Pokémon (much like a lot of fans did in the days of Red and Blue). Players of these games will never forget them - they become a part of you, in a way.

As far as if they're "the best", that simply varies from person to person. Some will like it, some will hate it, some will think it's so-so... And everything in between. Because Pokémon is what it is (strong in sales and large in fanbase), this Generation will be as memorable as every other one.

@XieRH, it was a very fail attempt at trying to be moderately comical :D.
Well, I already said that a vast sea of Pokemon is a little bit confusing and old ones will be forgotten and all of that. The plot line thing is about that tradition of Plot Lines that are on a higher scale than the previous are over and they need to find new ways to do it. Even what they have done with Zekrom and Reshiram is very good in my opinion because the broke out of the plot line tradition.

^ each plot was different. each evil team had a different plan. team rocket they just wanted all the most powerful pokemon and to have power.

aqua and magma wanted to destroy eachother then take over the region.

galactic....create a new world order...i know just bare with it.

its always different.

People who think Generation V may be the last of the Pokemon franchise are the same people who buy into the 2012 Apocalypse Conspiracy Theories. Though I could be wrong though...

What's generation V, never heard of it.

But no, it wont ever be forgotten, most fans still remember Generation I, including me.

As they stand right now, I don't think Black and White are the best. The story's definitely up there at the top, but considering we had Platinum and then HG/SS after each other - both games with extensive, expansive features - I think we were a bit spoiled, and the things they left out of Black and White are painfully obvious.

Should there be a 3rd edition to Black and White - including things such as the Gym Leader rematches, Battle Frontier (or expanded Subway / whatever), and its own new things that it brings to the table - then it could (and should) be the best.

Will it be forgotten? Heck no. I don't think that'd ever be possible unless the series continued for another 5 generations or so, when it gets easy to lose count :p
