XY Will roller skates replace anything?

The skates probably have to do with the graphical change.

Like, perhaps riding a bike step by step and taking turns looks weirder now.

But anyhow, I can much easier imagine having skates than a bike with you at all times lol.


But maybe we'll have both, with the bike being more like the acro-bike and skates for speed.

Actually, IIRC they originally intended to add a skateboard into GSC.

I think that rumor popped up again with HGSS, but IDK.

I'm hoping the surf animation will change. I much prefer swimming than surfing on a pokemon. Hey, a guy can dream, can he?

It would be a bit odd having your character start swimming fully clothed. I suppose they could add an item—swimming clothes, for example—that would allow you to swim, which would eliminate the need for the HM Surf as well.

While I'm on the subject of HMs, kill them all. They are a drag and they could easily be replaced with items (swimming clothes for Surf, dynamite or something for Strength/Rock Smash), to name one of the many possible solutions.

I hope that they don't take the bike out of the game. I love the whole rollerblade idea, just dont tkae out the bike! I hope they'll do something like they did in rse where you can choose between two different modes of transportation and each allows you into certain areas that you can't get to with the other. I think that would be pretty cool.

And yes. Please get ride of HM's or just make it so your pokemon can forget them without having to go to the move deleted guy. (_ _ ")

In the Gen 2 Beta, there was originally going to be a skateboard in addition to a bike. Is this what you are talking about?

There was Surfboard in another gen, too.

Nonono, the surfboard was going to be the original away to go across water in Gen 1. However, it was replaced with the HM Surf.

In the Gen 2 Beta, there was originally going to be a skateboard in addition to a bike. Is this what you are talking about?

But yeah, probably not going to see it as a mode of transportation, Surf is better anyway.

I don't think they'll replace anything. Definitely NOT the running shoes because on the trailer, you can see the characters running. I hope not they remove the bicycle, because I love it!

Could be that "running" is an inherent feature to the character, in which case skates could replace it as "the item you get that enables you to be faster" but still being able to run when not using them.

Would make sense to me. Never really understood the point of running shoes for simple running, and which you get very early anyway..

The 3DS' Circle Pad could make this a distinct possibility, since it's pressure dependent. So they could make it so you walk by pressing the Circle Pad lightly, and you run by pressing it as far in that direction as possible.
