Hi to all
I am planning to buy new laptop. But confused little which system to buy.So please share your experience so i can get some ideas.which one is better..?

Your laptop will probably come with Vista; that's the standard nowadays for most new laptops. If it's an older model, you might see XP running. You don't "buy" systems, one comes preloaded onto the computer (it kinda has to, otherwise the computer wouldn't do anything).

If your laptop comes with Vista, definitely invest in the upgrade to Windows 7. 7 was designed mostly to address the massive problems with Vista, and it is so tailor-made that Microsoft actually advises against upgrading straight from XP to Windows 7. XP is a competent OS in itself, albeit not as modern or flashy as Vista/7. If your laptop comes with XP, I'd suggest not doing anything, and save yourself all the hassle.

Windows 7 is pretty solid in my opinion whereas Vista is an atrocity. I personally have a lot of gripes about XP, mostly the way it handles large files. And if you want to use more than 2GB of RAM, then you need a 64-bit OS... and XP64 really doesn't cut it.

Again these are mostly personal opinions and gripes that I have about all the previous OS's. If I could get my favorite paint program SAI working properly on Linux then I would just use it.

Windows 7 comes out on the 21st I belive. You could wait to buy a computer than, but most likely you will be able to upgrade for free if you buy a computer now.

Well, for when I tested the RC (Release Candidate), I'd say Windows 7, although I had problems with some Full Screen games (Audiosurf, Team Fortress Classic) but out of all the systems, I'm a Linux fan

Let's put it this way...
My first class of College, my teacher said:
"If you use Vista in this class, you are going to fail."

thats a really ignorant statement by your teacher there...

@ OP. just buy the laptop now and you'll be fine with upgrading to win7 as it'll be free at this time.

im running win 7 ultimate atm and its great. has actually improved my laptop battery life and gaming is actually possible now.

Hi,
I will give you some overview of the windows 7,
Well,Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system boots slower than its unloved predecessor, Windows Vista, a PC tune-up developer said today. The claims by iolo Technologies, a Los Angeles maker of PC software, contradict Microsoft's boasts that Windows 7 starts up faster than Vista.According to iolo's tests, Windows 7 starts up 42% slower than Vista -- one minute, 34 seconds versus one minute, six seconds -- on a brand new machine when the time trials are run to the point where the machine is usable, at least by iolo's standards.
Thanks

obv competitor. you cannot go by ppl who are simply trying to make it look bad.

the line that gave them away was

a Los Angeles maker of PC software

when its unbiased then its fine.

IMO, nothing boots faster than my linux install. but win7 does boot faster than win vista.

running it on a 74gb raptor 10k, e52 oc'd to 3.2, w/2gb reaper.

I have been using Windows 7 since March. I couldn't go back to Vista.

Windows 7 is superior to Vista. If you live in America, Laptops that come preinstalled with Vista will allow you to obtain Windows 7 for free.

Get Windows 7.
