Writing Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 25 - Now with a TL;DR!

RE: Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 15

Chapter 16
Riley looked at you, expecting a response as if the answer was as trivial as crumpled paper blowing in the wind. Your thoughts flashed to last night’s battle, Riley was helpless without a pokemon and Buck didn’t look like he could fend for himself much in his current state. You turned your head toward Eirik, trying to hide the wincing visage with a few scarlet blushes; your choice had been decided and guilt was scribbled over your face. As you opened your mouth to speak, Eirik interjected and with a natural reassuring smile he nodded in agreement with your choice. “I’ll be fine, Mia. I’ll be back with your friend and meet up with you shortly.” He turned his head to Riley as some sort of affirmation of his confidence or rather a vow of determination.

Riley let loose a smile at Eirik’s bravado, “We’ll be waiting for you up ahead then. Do not tarry, the battle for the Shining White City is near.” Riley answered Eirik’s determination with a taste of his own as they both exchanged smiles. The optimistic atmosphere that the two embodied was tangible as well as riveting; however, it was clear that it was only transparent hope and that left a nagging sense of uneasiness within you. The minutes that would soon follow were hollowly silent compared to your lively conversation with Eirik.

“I guess this is goodbye for now,” Eirik reached out his hand for you to shake with an endearing smile. You hesitantly shook his hands,

“You’re feeling worried, aren’t you?” Riley asked after Eirik had walked away from the truck. “I can tell you, Eirik is one of our best recruits. He has a ‘green thumb’ for stuff like this,” Riley chuckled and you let out a forced laugh, the joke had went a tad over your head but you wanted to play along with Riley’s hope; that could be the only thing still holding him together.

Thoughts of worry write in your mind as the wheels race along the jagged mountain path making the inside of the vehicle twitch. The air had gotten so frigid, it had seemed that the truck itself shivered in the frost. Prinplup was ever-still sleeping and seemed more comfortable as the air grew colder, but despite the sedating effect that the cold air had on Prinplup, it only kept you awake and paranoid as time passed.

One Hour Later

You had finally reached a Pokemon Center and Buck was dropped off for the nurses to heal his wounds which had apparently grown worse during the ride. The nurses advised the three of you that the temperature would only grow colder as you ascended up the mountain. She offered a toasty seat toward a strange pokemon she called a Vulpix that radiated warmth simply by its presence. “If you’re going to go out into the cold again, you should at least warm up first!” She mentioned with a sense of genuine worry.

The optimistic atmosphere that the two embodied was tangible as well as riveting; however, it was clear that it was only transparent hope that left a nagging sense of uneasiness that filled the hollow minutes up until the truck had finally come to the crossroads.

“I guess this is goodbye for now,” Eirik reached out his hand for you to shake with an endearing smile, you hesitantly shook his hand to which he could only mutter a small chuckle and depart on his journey.

Thoughts of worry rattle in your mind as the wheels race along the jagged mountain path making the inside of the vehicle twitch.

An Hour Later

You had finally reached a Pokemon Center and Buck was dropped off for the nurses to heal his wounds which had apparently grown worse during the ride. The nurses advised the three of you that the temperature would only grow colder as you ascended up the mountain. She offered a toasty seat toward a strange pokemon she called a Vulpix that radiated warmth simply by its presence. “If you’re going to go out into the cold again, you should at least warm up first!” She mentioned with a sense of genuine worry.

Eventually, she persuaded both you and Riley to take a seat in the Pokemon center to warm-up before continuing on your journey once more. Riley looked at the strange fire pokemon and reached out his hands to stroke its fur, the fox had seemed delighted and for a few seconds, the warmth that resonated from its tail escalated in temperature.

You wanted to say something and break the air of silence between the two of you. “So, the friend of yours we’re meeting up with, who is she?” you asked to break the ice in the conversation. Riley closed his eyes in thought as he stopped petting the pokemon; it had looked like he was mulling over some sort of perplexing answer to the simple question you had asked. “Did I say something wrong?” You ask in worry of your own social skills.

“No, it’s not that. It’s just when you used the term ’friend’, it felt strange. I had never thought of this person as a friend, just an ally of sorts. We fought together and endured many trials, but it was only because our goals coincided with each other’s that we could find strength in one another.” Riley answered.

“Oh…” Your head tilted to the ground at the somewhat awkward to your question.

“But, when I truly think about it, isn't that what friends are?” Riley asked as your had rose to look at him in the eyes once more.

“I’m not sure, I don’t think I've really had a ‘friend’.” You said.

“Oh, but you've had one all along.” Riley smiled at your blank stare following his remark. “Prinplup. He’s been as devoted and trustworthy to you as a friend could ever be.” Riley said as he looked back at the pokemon; it had almost seemed he was lost in thought.

“That’s what pokemon are: Friends. Friends who will battle for you, lose with you, and die for you.” It almost seemed he was holding back some tears in the midst of his strong persona. You remembered what the lady said the last night about Riley now being pokemonless. Was all of Riley’s friends dead? The question lingered on your mind as Riley stood from his seat.

“Make your final preparations, Mia. We’ll be going back into the cold soon, and I’m not sure when we’ll be able to stop by a Pokemon Center again.” He whispered to you as he walked outside, but a trail of once concealed but now revealed gloom followed him in his footsteps as he approached the exit.

You walked over to the nurse and took out Ralts’ pokeball; Riley wasn’t the only one who had to recover from last night’s battle. The nurse took your pokeball and put It on a machine that you had not seen before. This machine had 6 circular holes neatly carved to fasten the shape of a pokeball, and as you observed the machine the nurse placed your pokeball in one of the slots. The machine glowed with energy and enveloped your ball in translucent light as a rhythmic tune played from the advanced machinery.

The nurse dispatched your pokeball and handed it to you. “Your pokemon should be healed now!” She said to your general bewilderment; you placed your pokeball within your purse and started walking toward the exit. You had suddenly remember Professor Rowan and opened your pokedex once more. Questions rattled in your mind as you opened the PokéTalk app to text the Professor.

It’s time to talk to Professor Rowan again, but with a few more interesting questions.

A) Ask Professor Rowan what happened to Rex and the Village!

B) Ask Professor Rowan what he knows about the Shining White City!

C) Ask Professor Rowan what it means to be a Pokemon Trainer!

As always, the choice is yours, Pokébeach! These choices will provide you knowledge, and it’s true: Knowledge is power… yet, it often comes with a price.

The voting period will end 1/4/2015! Be sure to get your votes end before then, and stay tuned for the next chapter of The Winds of Time.

Chapter 18

Wondering about what to ask the professor, you think about your options. The memory of Rex and the village comes back to you, and you consider for a second…but drop it immediately. You don’t want to feel guilty for leaving them, defenseless, against…no. You can’t think of that now, you have to go meet Riley’s friend.

Speaking of that, that friend is supposed to take you into SWC unnoticed. However, you don’t know anything about it, other than the obvious. Professor Rowan sure knows more about it than you do…so might as well ask him. There’s nothing to lose, after all.

“Professor, do you now anything abaout the SWC? A friend of mine has too do…work.”

“Mia, are you coming today? We don’t have much time!” Riley shouts from the truck.

You nod and put the Pokédex back in its place. The professor’s answer will have to wait, it seems. As the truck leaves, you look at the Pokémon Center from your window. It has an old and rusty roof, almost fully covered in snow.

“The roof was red back in the day,” Riley says, in an attempt to socialize a bit. “The Centers would be almost always full of trainers, even if nearly none of them needed to heal their Pokémon. They went there just to meet people.” He started to sound nostalgic.

“I wish I could have lived in that world, even if it was only for a day,” you say, feeling bad for him.

“Well, that world wasn’t perfect, either. There was corruption…Something that almost doesn’t exist in this world. I’d be surprised if one of the professor’s assistants was actually working for SWC, for example. The odds are nearly none.”

The professor! You completely forgot! You look for the Pokédex in your purse, and read the answer:

“The SWC? Be more specific. There’s a lot about it.”

So the professor does know about it. You ask for a way to get in, and some information from the inside. You always heard the inside was enormous and clean, but you wanted to know what the professor had to say.

“You can’t get in there alone. There are guards everywhere. If you make it, however, it’s a lot easier to move around. The streets make a big circle, and there are several streets that connect the circle to the center of the city, the Shining White Tower. That’s where the White Lord resides.” It’s almost as if the professor had been in the city.

“Thnx, professor. With that we might be aible to doo it.”

“You’re welcome. Do something about your spelling, though, it’s really starting to bother me.”

Typical. No conversation with Professor Rowan could end without a complaint about your spelling. Maybe you’ll do something about it, you think. Maybe someday. But not today. Today, you were going up the mountain with Riley.

2 hours later…

“Riley, are we close to where we’re supposed to meet with your friend?” You ask. “We’ve been riding forever.”

“Actually,” he says, “the meeting spot is right there. That woman there, that’s my friend.”

“The one with blond hair?”

“Yes. But she didn’t mention-”

BOOOOOOOOOM!

The rear of the truck exploded, launching Riley, you and Prinplup out of the vehicle. As soon as you landed, the blond woman called out a Togekiss and left. Strange. Having a bad feeling about this, you call out Ralts and ask it if it feels any emotions other than yours, Prinplup’s and Riley’s. It nods.

“Ralts, use Confusion!”

Ralts drags about 20 persons in view, but becomes very weakened due to the effort made. They’re all wearing white uniforms, and all have very long spears. You’re surrounded, there’s no way to escape. You’ll have to fight. One of them steps forward, while all of the others stare at you menacingly.

“This is Mars from the SWC Watchers! You’re surrounded, surrender or die!”

You look at Riley. He’s puzzled, very possibly because of his friend’s betrayal. You shake his shoulder to bring him back to reality. He looks around, looks at Mars, then at you. He has a confident smile, and tells you that you should try to battle this Mars.

“They’re 20, Riley. Even if I beat Mars, there will be 19 more to defeat. If they don’t kill us, that is.”

“Don’t worry. You’ll be fine. Believe in your Pokémon.” For some reason, you start to feel really confident about this, and challenge Mars to a Pokémon battle.

“Hahaha, a battle against you? You don’t stand a chance, sweetheart. However, I’ll let you battle me.”

“Alright,” you say. “If I win, you’ll let us both go.”

“Deal. But if you lose…you’ll both come with me, your friend with the Z on the chest will go to prison and will be tortured day and night until he tells us the secrets of the rebellion, and you…you’ll stay with the men. They’re really bored these days, you know.”

“I accept,” Riley says. You look at him in despair. What if you lose this battle? He’ll be tortured, and you…you don’t even want to think about what could happen to you. Mars sends out an ugly cat, which your Pokédex identifies as Purugly. You see Ralts is tired, so you call Prinplup to do the fighting.

“You go first, sweetie. Maybe it’ll make you feel better when you lose.”

The cat’s somewhat big and mean-looking, so you think it’s a Fighting type. Ralts is too tired, you tell yourself. You remember the fist in the Pokédex getting hit super-effectively by…a brain? Psychic. Not now. You remember more…and see a fairy. Fairy. Ugh Ralts would do really well against this guy. And you remember…a wing. Flying. Flying!

“Prinplup, use Peck!”

Prinplup charges forward with its peck shining, but Purugly suddenly disappears, and Prinplup crashes onto a rock. As fast as lightning, the cat appears again and delivers a strong blow on Prinplup’s back, almost making it faint.

“Prinplup!” you scream, though you are not sure if it can hear you.

“How you like Quick Attack? Pretty speedy, isn’t it, honey?”

Ralts feels your despair. And Prinplup’s. And the men’s restlessness. Their will to end the battle and take the prize. It starts to panic. But then, it feels Riley’s confidence…and Mars’ overconfidence. So many emotions…its feeler begins to grow slightly.

“Prinplup, please, stand up! I need you!” you scream, trying to contain your tears.

“A single blow, all it took! Your Pokémon needs more training.”

Your panic keeps growing in intensity. You fall to your knees, almost waiting for the men to come and take you with them. But nothing happens. Then, there’s a bright, white light coming from Riley’s side, but it disappears as quickly as it appeared. Riley chuckles, much to your confusion.
“Out of Pokémon already? Sweetie, you shouldn’t challenge me if you have only one Pokémon. Not even your…friend can help you. No one cares about you. Look around, will you? Your Prinplup doesn’t even try to stand up, your friend is just watching, and even your little white thing left. Why do you keep trying?”

You look around at the mention of Ralts. She’s right, it isn’t anywhere to be seen. You look at Riley, as if to say ‘I’m sorry’, but all you see is a small curve in the corner of his mouth. Now you understand everything. Riley’s challenge and confidence, Ralts’ disappearance. You try to buy it more time.

“I do have one more Pokémon, and it does care about me. Just like the one that’s standing up.”

Mars looks at Prinplup, who is now standing, although it’s very weak.

“Look who’s back from the dead,” she says with a chuckle. “Come on, Purugly, let’s finish this! Use Quick Attack!”

Much to your relief, you see Prinplup suddenly disappear, barely evading Purugly’s Quick Attack.

“What is this magic? Witch! There are no more Pokémon! How-”

She can’t finish her sentence. Prinplup reappears right in front of her, and uses Peck on her belly, causing her to bend in pain. Mars is now laying down with her hands on her belly, incapable of standing up.

“I…I’ll get you for this…child…ugh…” You’ve never seen anyone in such pain. You almost feel bad for her…but you don’t.

“Prinplup, use Bubblebeam!”

Bubbles explode in her already badly damaged belly, increasing the pain and making her faint. Your relief can clearly be seen in your face, but its duration is rather short. The men and the Purugly are getting closer to you and Riley…and Prinplup disappears again. Flashes of light are seen everywhere, and you see the men fall one by one, and you see a scared Purugly run into the woods. After, Prinplup appears in front of you, accompanied by a Pokémon very similar to Ralts, although taller and visibly stronger. “Kirlia!” it announces.

“Ralts…I mean Kirlia…and Prinplup…I’m so proud of you guys…really…I don’t know what I would do without you two..the way you used your Teleport to help Prinplup...it was amazing,” you say, in tears of happiness.

Riley comes join you. “Look, Mia, a note from a Starly.”

Zee…captured…sent to SW with profe…..owan… -E..ik

A note from Eirik! It’s very damaged, but you can still read it…They took Eirik and Professor Rowan to SWC!

“Mia…I’m sorry…but we can’t rescue them.”

You feel like your heart stops beating. “What? Why?”

“You saw what happened here. If Ralts hadn’t evolved, we wouldn’t be here. We are not enough. There’s a small group of the resistance around here.”

“We can’t just leave them there! They’ll kill them!”

“Mia, use your brain instead of what you are using now. There are at least 300 guards. We can’t make it alone. I’m going to join the group. What you do is up to you. It’s not like you are my daughter or something.”

You walk and sit next to Prinplup and Kirlia.

“What should we do, guys? I really want to save Eirik, but doing so by myself seems impossible. However, by the time the resistance group goes up there...it could be too late.”

Sooooo guys hope you liked it, and..here are your options! :D

A) Go get Riley and the resistance, then Teleport to SWC. (Your plan)

B) Let Riley make a plan.

C) Tell Kirlia to teleport you to the top, because you fear it’s too late by the time you get there if you wait for the resistance.

I’ll be waiting for your choice, Pokébeach! And remember…sometimes, looks deceive. (And some other times, they don’t :p) Choose wisely, guys...this *could* be an important choice in the story. (Not that other choices are irrelevant)

The voting period will end 13/1/2015! Vote before then, so you can get the next chapter asap!

RE: Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 17

B. Riley has more experience, and he's right: you can't battle 300 guards without a plan of strategy.

Voting ends in 2 days guys!
Also, the title needs updating. :p

RE: Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 18

Hi again, guys, this time, I bring, (you guessed it :p) Chapter 19 of Winds of Time! Enjoy! :D

Chapter 19

As you think about your options, you see Riley starting to walk away.

“Riley, what are you doing?” you ask, confused.

“I told you, I’m going with the resistance.”

You look at him in the eyes, hoping for a signal, a move, anything; but his look doesn’t change in the slightest. “You can’t just leave me here!” you yell. “Not after all we’ve been through! I never wanted any of this. If you had left me alone when I asked you to, this wouldn’t be happening. You were the one who asked for help. You can't just ditch the help in the middle of nowhere.”

“Oh, I sure can. Like you said…I was the one who asked for the help…but I don’t want it right now. I don’t expect you to understand, but if you go save Eirik and the professor, you won’t come back. Alive, at least. I’m protecting you, Mia.”

“But I don’t want you to protect me! You’re not my dad or anything! You’re nothing to me! All you did was kidnap me, tie me to a chair, and tell me to help. You know what? I’m not gonna help anymore. Not if helping means letting people we care about die.”

Riley looks genuinely hurt. You immediately regret saying all that. You try to present your excuses, but…

“Alright. You’re right. I’m nothing but a kidnapper who lets the people he cares about die. You’re from the North, Mia. I thought you would understand this stuff.”

After these words, he starts going down the mountain, towards the resistance’s little base. You look at your Pokémon and realize you had made your choice long before even thinking about it. You’re going to save Eirik. You start to go uphill and realize this wasn’t the best of ideas. You walk very slowly, despite the road being almost clean and the weather being perfect.

“Are you alright now, Kirlia?” you ask the Pokémon, since what it had done minutes ago had really weakened it. “Are you ready to take us to the top?”

“Kirlia!” it says cheerfully, letting you know it has recovered its full strength.

“Alright, Kirlia. To the top we go!”

A few seconds later, you find yourself in the middle of a street, and several people are walking by. All of them are very well dressed, and they look at you as if you were a Garbodor.

You’ll never make it anywhere unnoticed if you’re dressed like this, you tell yourself. So, you recall your Pokémon and go to a nearby store to buy something more ‘common’ for SWC. Upon entering the store, Prinplup runs to the dress section.

“Hello, sweetie! What can I do for you?” the lady of the counter says happily. You realize she hasn’t looked at you yet, so you save her the surprise.

“I’ve come from far...and my clothes got all messed up. I’d appreciate if you could find anything that suits me. Anything at all.”

She looks at you and sees how your clothes are. They’re not bad or anything, but for the SWC…well, even the lady at the counter looks better. “Oh my gosh! What happened to you? Did you go outside the walls without anything else? No, no. that’s irrelevant. I must find something for you now. No one must see you dressed like that.”

She takes you through the whole store, and you’re about to give up…when someone comes in the store. Someone with blond hair.

“Mia, are you here? Where are you? I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Your dad will be terribly mad if you don’t come right now!”

“Miss, is this your daughter? I was just helping her find a dress.”

“Yes, Paulina. This is my daughter Mia, and she’s gonna be in trouble if she doesn’t come quickly. I’ll help her find something appropriate for the event.”

Luckily for this woman, Paulina didn’t see your confused expression and leaves the two of you alone. The woman makes a sign that tells you to speak quietly.

“Who are you? Why did you say I was your daughter? How do you know my name?”

“Be quiet, Mia. Riley told me about you. First off, I didn’t betray him. I was caught doing stuff I shouldn’t have been doing, and to prove my loyalty to SW, I had to do what I did. I left at that moment so I couldn’t be accused of helping you. My name is Cynthia. You may have heard stories about The White Lord, Cyrus, myself, and a young boy called Lucas. Those stories are true, partly. I’ll explain later, we don’t have much time. Like Paulina said, you can’t wear that here. I’ll get you a dress and shoes.” As she saw the disagreement in your face, she continued. “You saw it yourself, everyone here is dressed fancily. Like that, you would be spotted easier than an Abomasnow in the desert.”

You take the dress you see Prinplup is pointing, and it happens to be icy blue, just like your hair.

“Nice choice for a penguin. Now hurry up, we’ll get to the shoes section.”

There, Cynthia grabs a pair of blue heels and rushes to the counter. After the purchase is done, you go to the changing room to, well, change. When your clothes have been replaced, you put the tattered pieces of cloth in your bag and look at yourself in the mirror.

Wow, I never thought I could look this good! Maybe Eirik will like it…

Then, you begin to try to walk outside, which turns out to be quite the odyssey since you’ve never worn heels before. Luckily, as soon as you went out of the store, Cynthia calls out her Togekiss.

“I’ll take you to the prison of SW,” she says, “but you must act like everything I’ll say is true. You are Eirik’s fiancée, and visit him to talk about why he is in there. Of course, he already knows this, so he won’t say anything about the resistance, and neither will you. Understood?”

You nod, sit on Togekiss, and put Prinplup on your legs.

“Togekiss, use Fly!”

With a nod, the Pokémon takes off. As you go higher, you appreciate all the things about SW you couldn’t before due to the way people looked at you. You are surprised at Togekiss’s strength, but you just decide not to question it right now.

This city is so pretty, you say to yourself as you see the gigantic walls surrounding it and all the fancy-dressed people inside of it. Almost everything is shining at least a bit, and you see the guards on the top of the walls. They all have uniforms and very long spears. You try to count them, but they’re too many. Like Riley said, there should be at least 300 of them.

“We’re almost there, hold Togekiss!”

You do your best to find a grip, but the Pokémon is so soft there’s nothing to hold onto. You decide to hug the bird. You put Prinplup (or what fits of it) in your backpack, hug Togekiss and hope for the best. A few seconds after, it’s all over.

“I think I’m gonna walk next time,” you say, a bit dizzy after the ride.

“Have you seen yourself walking? If you were to walk here, you wouldn’t get very far. Follow me.”

In front of you, there’s a huge door. The two of you walk in, and there is nothing but a very long corridor with many doors.

“Please tell me we’re not walking through the entire building,” you say, already seeing yourself falling again and again. Cynthia chuckles.

“Don’t worry, that door almost at the end leads to the prison.”

With these words, you start complaining about the shoes in your head.

“I’m kidding, Mia. Chillax!” she says amusingly.

You walk a bit and follow Cynthia through one of the doors on the left. There’s nothing but two circles on the floor. As you wonder what they do, Cynthia tells you and Prinplup to go on one of them. Once you’re in your place, Cynthia goes on the other one and says:
“Watcher Alpha Squadron, Charlie here. I have Prisoner #17833’s fiancée, she’s here to question him about the reason of his stay with us.”

A voice out of nowhere answers:
“Confirmed, Charlie. You and the girl have 10 minutes. Staying any longer than that…”

“I know the procedures, Carl. I know what happens.”

“Just doing what the protocol says. Teleporting!”

An orange light starts to surround you, and soon you find yourself in the prison yard. All of the prisoners instantly look at you, and as you see some of them can’t manage to stop looking, you feel your face turn red. You start looking for Eirik immediately. However, you find Professor Rowan first. Or, to be more accurate, he finds you first, attracted by the sight of a Pokémon in the prison. He isn’t looking good.

“Professor Rowan, are you alright?” you ask as you start running towards him. You completely forgot about your heels. As you expected, you fall, but instead of the ground, you feel two arms underneath you. As the prisoner helps you to your feet, you look at him and see he’s been very tortured, judging by the conditions of his clothing. His hair is very dirty…but you see a bit of green on the side. Eirik!

You don’t think. You get closer…until a voice is heard from somewhere in the prison.

“This is a reminder to visitors. Physical contact is not allowed under any circumstances. Disobeying means getting shot.”

“Mia…you…you look so beautiful…”

You don’t let him finish. You hug him, and…you kiss him. Right after, you hear the guards coming and call out Kirlia.
“It only has the energy to Teleport two persons,” Eirik says.

You have to be fast. You don’t have much time to think…but you realize it isn’t needed.

So, PokéBeach, that was Chapter 19 of Winds of Time, and here are your choices:

A) Teleport you and Eirik, leaving Cynthia and the professor.
B) Teleport Eirik and the professor, leaving you and Cynthia.
C) Teleport the professor and Cynthia, leaving you and Eirik.
D) Teleport Eirik and Cynthia, leaving you and the professor.
Vote before the 21-01-15, and be ready...for one of the most exciting chapters! :D

RE: Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 19

B.
Cynthia must stay as her Togekiss can get the remaining two out of there. Anyway, Cynthia is the experienced champion and should have a Pokemon that can teleport or immobolise. The professor must go; he is certainly not in any state to fight. So that leaves option B.

RE: Winds of Time - PokéBeach CYOA - Chapter 19

Anyone can vote guys, there's no need to be part of a 'group' or anything. Also, you don't have to vote for every single chapter. I think you should try it at least once, and, who knows, maybe you'll end up liking it! :D I'm mentioning this because lately, I see each chapter gets 30+ views, but only 1-2 persons vote. It's free, btw...
