Pokémon (12):
  • 1 Gengar & Mimikyu GX (beatdown)
  • 1 Ditto Prism Star SM7a (evolution)
  • 4 Polteageist S1W (beatdown)
  • 4 Sinistea S1W (evolution)
  • 2 Omastar SM9 (disable)
Trainer (38):
  • 4 Prof. Elm’s Lecture (search)
  • 2 Cynthia & Caitlin (draw)
  • 4 Clay (draw)
  • 4 Mysterious Treasure (search)
  • 3 Evolution Incense (search)
  • 3 Mysterious Fossil (evolve)
  • 4 Custom Catcher (control)
  • 4 Surprise Box (beatdown)
  • 2 Stealthy Hood (protect)
  • 2 Normal Rod (retrieval)
  • 3 Rare Candy (evolve)
  • 3 Lucky Eggs (draw)
Energy (10):
  • 2 Recycle Energy
  • 8 Psychic Energy

STRATEGY:

Start with either Sinistea or Gengar and Mimikyu GX and bench another Sinistea. Use Clay to draw item cards and make sure to have Omastar on the bench on the second turn. Attach Lucky Eggs to the active Pokémon to ensure a stable card flow and use Professor Elm's Lecture to search out the Sinistea line. Make sure to have no ore than two benched Pokémon to enable Omastar to lock down items and boost Poltergeist.

With the Professor supporter archetype returning along with Polteageist, how would you prevent someone from playing that to discard all of the items from their hand? Since they wouldn't be using them anyway, they would have no reason not to. Also, how do you plan to counter VenuSnivy with the ability to "attach a [G] to gust" your Omastar for a KO? I would be willing to put money on Grass seeing at least a bit more play with the added weakness to Grass on Dark types, so you may encounter that more often.

Hi John InCENAroar,

Thanks for the review. There is not much that can be done to prevent the opponent from playing Professor's Research. However, this will result in them having a hand size of seven cards again and with the current item counts in most decks the likelihood that three to four of them are trainer cards is decent. Keep in mind that Poltergeist also counts stadium cards and supporters when determining the damage done to the opponent.

Gust effects in general are an issue but most deck will have to deal with them. In order to deal with non-item based Gust effects I decided to include Stealthy Hood as a tool to be attached to Omastar to handle Ninetales and Venusaur and Snivy GX alike. More concerned about Ninetales since he can be used from the bench while Venusaur and Snivy GX needs to be active.
