Rules for Participation, Conduct, and Deadlines
1.) Sign-ups begin as soon as this post has been made, and will remain open until midnight Central Standard Time next Sunday night (May 15, 2011/11:59PM CST). This is to allow for all potential participants who may have missed out on the previous contest to have ample time to sign up. The prompt will be announced the day after this deadline has passed. As it is poetry, the prompt will include a specific form-poem style and theme to work from. Additionally, judges have been selected and are listed below. They will not be allowed to enter.
To sign-up, simply post here stating that you wish to participate. Please note that once you do sign-up, you will be expected to conduct yourself with sportsman-like conduct. Any hastling, taunting, teasing, or bragging will get you forever banned from this and further competitions. Likewise, try not to post more often than necessary in this thread as to alleviate the likelihood of spam. If you have questions at any point, you're free to ask them here or PM me. Otherwise try to keep chitchat or random comments on the down-low.
Additional Note: At the request of one of the judges, this thread will be locked once sixteen entrants have been added. This is a first-come, first-serve basis and no-one will be accepted after the sixteenth entry has been made.
2.) General and Writing forum rules still apply. As stated previously, flaming and spamming will not be tolerated in this thread. Furthermore, severe offenders will receive warnings or even bans if the need arises.
Similarly, when works are submitted, they are to be sent to me and of readable quality. Poor quality work will not be accepted, and returned to the writer with the notice to revise on their own for resubmission. If a resubmitted work shows no sign of improvement, the writer will be disqualified.
3.) After the prompt is announced, participants will have until Friday, June 3, 2011 to submit their poems to me via PM. Those who fail to meet this deadline will be automatically disqualified from judging.
4. Judging will begin the weekend after all submissions have been collected, though all may be forwarded to the judges anonymously ahead of time if everyone finishes before the actual deadline. Once judging is complete, the winner will be announced and all works reposted unless the respective author requests otherwise.
Note that winning this will entitle you to bragging right in your signature, but conceitedness outside of it will only get you warned and banned from future writing competitions. So don't gloat!

Poem Style: Acrostic-A poetry or writing style in which the first letter of the first word of every line can be used to spell out a specific name, word, acronym, etc. This is the required formatting of all poems. Anything that doesn’t match it will be automatically disqualified. Additionally, keep all submissions PG-13 at most. Any “adult-rated” vulgarities anywhere in the content will not just get you disqualified and banned from further competition, but could even get you (permanently) banned from the forums altogether. I intend to screen everything that gets submitted, and have zero-tolerance for this stuff (Insinuation is one thing, but don’t press your luck with me!).
Theme: Nostalgia or things remembered fondly (such as childhood or friendships). This can be a vague subject in your poems, but you must have it at least somewhat evident in your poems otherwise you’ll be disqualified.
Rhythm Scale: All poems should possess a similar rhythm scheme as follows: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH (changing and alternating each four lines or so as such). Anything that doesn’t fit this to any extent will be disqualified.
Length: Submissions are to be no shorter than eight lines and no longer than sixteen as to make up for reading time. If you choose to end on an oddball line (such as Line Nine or Line Ten), don’t modify the rhythm scheme to account for that fact. So long as you are using what’s been prescribed, your entry won’t be disqualified.
